Highlight of Exquisite Corpses (2025): the relationship between the Fox Mask Killer and Lady Carolina 👀. From my understanding, FMK used to represent Lady C’s family in prior games, and FMK joined as another family’s representative just to get the chance to kill Lady C (because, as we find out, Lady C’s family has FMK’s daughter). | “It’s you. My little fox.” / “I’m not yours. I never was.” / “And trust me, my heart’s still hurtin’ over it.”

Lady C. calling FMK’s attempts at killing her “cute” and saying she’ll kill FMK quick if she “ask[s] nicely”~ Ooohhh the toxic homoerotic tension is crazy here…

“Bless your heart.” / “Bite me.” / Lady C.: don’t mind if I do 😈

And at the end, when FMK has taken out the last killer and sees that someone else got to Lady C before her, she drops to her knees at Lady C’s corpse. It’s fitting that when a new challenger shows up, a civilian from the host town no less, FMK dies right at Lady C.’s side.

It's hard! I love so many of them! But I think it's a tie between Erica and Aaron. Erica because she's blunt and mean and badass, but she also has this great capacity for love and kindness - even though it'd probably be easier and hurt her less if she didn't let herself feel for the kids she's trying to save. Also I love that she's kind of bad at lying. Her photocopied-at-Kinkos's license! This face she makes!

And Aaron - OK, I was also a crybaby as a kid (still kind of am tbh) so there's that. I love that (unlike Erica) he is trying to be cold and unfeeling but he's also pretty bad at it. There are so many pages where he's trying to be cool and mean and then, like, one panel later he's all flustered and adorable! I love him! And there's the Tragedy, of course, because he finally decides to try feeling again and then dies like three days later :((((( Not okay! But good for my tragedy loving heart.

Also, I'm sorry, but aesthetically the Black Masks got the best look. Those panels where they're in shadow and they're just Teeth and Eyes?

Tybalt is canonically described as “Muscular and Attractive but in a pretty way”. I love how everyone recognizes him as a man even when he didn’t have a pronoun confirmation until Alabaster 😂

Yessss! The picture Maxine finds of young Cecilia and Jessica kills me!! (actually all the pictures Maxine finds kill me, but that's beside the point 😅) I always thought bleached, personally, Cecilia seems like someone who's very in control of her image/appearance.

Personally I’m with Jess being older bc of the whole council thing but stronger hunters move up faster and Jessica is very strong

I tend to think of them as the same age, or at least close enough it doesn't really matter. But if I had to pick one to be older, yeah, Jessica. It's interesting that one of the few things we know about younger Jessica is that she was bullied by the other kids, like Aaron. Was she always a strong hunter and just bad at dealing with other children, or did it take her a while to get good? Hopefully we'll find out soon! 🤞

Question in return, how far apart do you think Aaron and Erica are? I think it's a pretty small gap, one and a half years, maybe two. I find it hard to see him as older than fourteen in vol 4.

I would definitely say theirs only a few months between Jessica and Cecilia, with Jessica being bullied (as we know) she could’ve very well had the same emotional state as Aaron but just got stronger instead. (Aaron didn’t really get physical stronger he just reflected by being a bitch to Erica when he could)

I see Aaron and Erica with a two year age gap (give or take) To me Aaron is very obviously 14 (Same with the Twins, who have always seemed to be in the same age group as Aaron)

When Jace comes to the house I believe Aaron is around 16 as that’s most logically when the first hunt takes place for ages. Leaving Erica at 14 then. Me and one of my friends have done lots of math on the ages and stuff lol

Yeah, we agree on ages, tho I've done less logical thinking and mostly just gone on ~vibes 😅. God it makes me so sad to think of Aaron dying at 31 though.

Cecilia does say the bullying "worked" to toughen her up, but in my experience when kids are "toughened up" by bullying it's usually less that they're getting actually stronger and more that they're hiding their weakness better. I think probably a mix of Jessica getting stronger and also learning to repress her emotions better - to the point she ended up needing alcohol to let her feel again. I think what the therapist says in #39, about repression only working for a while and then people becoming dependent on whatever lets them let it out again, is meant to be read as an accurate take on Jessica & her alcoholism.

I can see where you are coming from and I fully agree! Repression and emotional regulation only works for so long. Jessica makes me so sad :(((

How do you feel about Cecilia possibly being the next dragon? Also who do you think is going to eventually run into Erica while out and about? My guess is Maxine and/or Nolan with possibly Tybalt as he is getting very suspicious of Cecilia whenever Erica is mentioned.

I am excited for Dragon Cecilia! I think it has to happen now; it's been led up to so much I think I'd feel a bit cheated if it didn't. I want her to get everything she wants and for none of it to matter compared to how much she still misses Jessica :(

I hope it's Maxine because I love her and would be interested to see if she would have any conflicted loyalties (to me, Maxine seems to be speedrunning the "Black Mask to black sheep" trajectory & I wanna see how that plays out). Nolan would also be interesting & I definitely think Tybalt's suspicion has to lead somewhere (to be quite honest with you, I hope it leads to Erica punching him in the face! I love him, but I would like to see that).

Hopefully when we finally get back to the present, that dragon is dying and/or dead and we see her move up! (I have her dress picked out) It will definitely be heartbreaking for Cecilia (she won’t show it) that none of her family (besides her shit kids) to see her. No Adda, No Gary and worst of all no Jessica.

I definitely think Maxine will run into her and it will be that Spider-Man meme, Maxine seems like she was loyal to Cecilia but not really anymore but will play the part for as long as she can get away with. Tybalt deserves a good punch to the face to bring his head out of his ass lmao

I am very excited for Maxine's story wherever it goes but I think you're on the money there. I'll be interested in Cecilia's reaction once she realises she's lost Maxine - there's obviously the political loss of putting in all that effort to control Slaughter's only Black Mask only to lose her immediately, but also for all she fronts not caring about her kids she obviously does have favourites (I think she was actually upset when Helen died for instance) so I think she'll feel personally betrayed as well.

I have also really enjoyed our conversation! It's nice not to be alone with my thoughts about these guys 😅. Unfortunately I am actually away for a few days & a bit busy for tumblr, so this is a good time to at least pause this conversation for me, but I will be back and we should chat again!
