About The Company: KangerTech is the number one name that most beginning vapers will know, right off the bat — it is the most visible brand that makes boxes, tanks, mods, and accessories. And they are one of my favorite companies, least of all because they made this beautiful mod!
Product Name: Kangertech NEBOX (starter kit)
Pricing: Retails for around 80USD for the tank-mod hybrid with a 10ml tank capacity, a drip tip, and a micro usb charging port with an option for a rechargeable battery. The kit also comes with extra coils and a DIY mini RBA coil kit as well. (Full disclaimer: this was a gift, so I did not pay for it.)
Time Spent Vaping With It: 3 months on my own box, 6 months using my husband’s NEBOX.
Packaging: The packaging is superb, which I always expect from KangerTech. Everything is laid out for you with simple graphics and an easy-to-use box for vaping. The directions are straightforward and have pictures for you to follow for wicking an RBA coil or just setting up the box.
Design: I received the red NEBOX, and holy sh-t is it gorgeous. A glossed bold red enamel wraps this mode with black accents and a digital screen to read your settings and take a look at your battery life. Because I tend to be minimal in my design choices, this box really spoke to me — from the deep red colour to the creative use of the cut logo design, this box was everything I was looking for.
Usability: Straight out of the box, the NEBOX is very simple to use for intermediate vapes. If you’re a beginner, take the time to read through the directions. Setting it up is easy — insert your 18650 cell battery, press the big button five times, and it turns on. Four more clicks will give you the option to change your vape mode. Five clicks in a row if it’s turned on will turn it back off.
As for changing your battery and filling the tank, take the drip tip off, turn the box upside down, and unscrew the bottom discs. It takes less than a minute to change both the battery and fill the tank, and I can even do it in less than 30 seconds.
Temp or Wattage Control: Always on Wattage for me. I’ve never vaped this on Temp control, and wouldn’t even know where to begin with that.
Tank: Tank is imbedded into the box, so there’s no unscrewing or screwing the tank onto the mod. You just fill it, check your coil, and vape. It’s that simple. This is great for a standard all-day vape or for taking it on the go because you don’t have to worry about breaking the tank. It’s protected by the shell that keeps everything together, so throw it in your purse or bag and move on with your life. It’s that simple.
Battery Life: Completely depends on how much you vape, and how high your wattage/temperature level is. I generally vape around 25W, and the battery can last me eight hours. Because I’m a writer and I work from home, I vape all day without having to change my battery.
If you don’t vape as much as I do, just when you’re home or out with friends, then the battery will last you a long, long time.
Coils: I use the KangerTech SSOCC coils (20USD for a pack of five in my neighborhood), which are available for both wattage and temperature control. Please, please, use the right coil for your vaping mode — in the NEBOX, if you’re vaping Wattage, use the red coils. For temp, use the blue coils. Please keep in mind that it is possible to ruin a coil — and your vape — by using the wrong coil.
Accessories: The NEBOX doesn’t come with a lot of accessories, and that’s because the mod has the tank built in. You can change the types of coils, your battery type, and the drip tip (if you can find one that fits), but otherwise, the NEBOX will stay the way you bought. For me, this is great, because I don’t feel the need to customize this mod at all.
Problems Experienced: I know a lot of people have been talking about the fact that because the tank is within the mod itself and you need to unscrew the bottom to fill the tank that it leaks. I had this happen to me the first few weeks I had it, and now I don’t experience it anymore. I don’t know why — this issue could have to do with the viscosity of your juice, whether you leave the mod standing up while charging (you don’t have to), or if the mod gets too warm because you’re vaping a lot. Like I said, I haven’t really been experiencing too many leaking issues with it in the last six weeks.
For those of you concerned about dropping the mod and breaking it, I can tell you from experience that you really have to smash it to break this. My home has concrete floors, and I’ve dropped the NEBOX on the floor many times, without so much as a crack in the tank or a problem with the electrical system inside the box. Nothing. I even took it to my neighborhood vape shop to make sure it was all good, and it is. So it’s not just a mod — it truly is a tank.
Verdict: This is currently the only mod that I’m using, although I have purchased another mod for sampling juices (which will be reviewed shortly). It is my all-day vape mod of choice, and I’ve actually given away my other mods to friends because I haven’t touched them once since getting this.
If you’re new to vaping, or just want a standard mod that you can fill with an all-day vape, I highly recommend the NEBOX. With the ability to charge through a USB port or through a rechargeable battery, the fact that the tank is inside the mod, and the 10ml tank capacity, this is a soldier in the world of vape mods.
