My friend was just telling me how annoying it was to explain Pride to her kids—not because she had to have the convo, but bc the kids (6 yrs old) understood LGBTQAI+ identities without issue, but literally could not comprehend why it even is an issue.

Apparently they just kept asking ‘Why??? What do you mean???’ Eventually my friend was like, “Listen, there are stupid bigots in the world and you aren’t them, so that’s good.”

So—HAPPY PRIDE from my friends’ confused children who think we’re like. whatever. Not in a homophobic way but in a “Ok??? This is normal???” way for them.

not to get too deep on main but did anyone else have such deeply rooted issues with their self worth for so long that they thought as a kid/teen that their only redeeming feature was being “low maintenance” and now as an adult you give yourself guilt pangs asking for any more than the barest minimum in virtually any relationship because asking for things might negate your only good quality which is just “doesn’t ask for things”

One of my fondest memories after graduating college (over a decade ago now) was staying over my friend’s apartment, which was a 5-person commune that pooled income, had a weekly roommate meeting, paid dues for appliances and food, and held regular meetings for leftist politics and organizers.

So one night my friend and I are smoking a joint at 3am, and one of their roommates gets home and joins us, asking if they’ve told a friend yet that the chocolate cake they’d taken a slice of had been from a moon ceremony with period blood in it. “Ehhhhh we’ll tell her eventually. This week!”

That roommate leaves, then a bit later, their doula roommate gets home after a 16 hour labor. We chat about their work day, and then they go “Oh do you have plans tomorrow in the kitchen or living room?”

“Yeah, there’s a housing justice meeting tomorrow evening.”

“Ok, I can air out the apartment by then.”

“Wait, why?”

“Oh, I just gotta prepare this person’s placenta.”

“Right.”

So it’s true! Plenty of things you can do with a placenta! Best to do it ahead of a housing rights meeting.

I was watching Laid, and it was pretty good—until they showed one of the most gruesome deaths and it was a bullet through the head of a queer woman of color—the only serious queer relationship in her history. I get the premise is that all of Ruby’s exes are all equally at risk of dying, but the way in which it was shown (a stray bullet from a cop…) and the disproportionate number of queer characters that get killed in film and television—that was fucking bullshit.

And the white straight trivia guy is the goddamn exception???? Like are you fucking kidding me? The writers really fucking had to do that?????

I’m so mad. I love Stephanie Hsu but Nahnatchka Khan, how did you fucking manage the Dead Black Girlfriend and the Bury Your Gays tropes in one fucking go?????

TLDR: If you were thinking about watching, don’t bother. It got canceled anyway…
