Itās been a couple of days since the last of the tomatoes went in and weāve had some wins and losses. Many of the youngest seedlings didnāt make it, but there are a couple who have defied the odds. Theyāre SO much smaller than the other seedlings around them, but thatās okay. Theyāll just be the last to move out when the time comes. ā¤ļøš±
The final transplant has occurred! Donāt judge me but it happened at midnight so the light quality was very poor and I didnāt snap as many pictures as I usually would so weāre stuck with just these. Iām quite amused because they donāt really fit in there and are packed in right up against my bed. Luckily I sleep on the opposite side so itās really not a big deal, but I laugh because it hasnāt been this crowded since the Closet Pumpkin Incident that happened like five years ago. That was such a fun time and Iām so happy that I have so many lovely babies again š„°š±
Another day, another small crop of tomatoes planted!
These are my Super Sweet 100 hybrids. Theyāre biggest and strongest that Iāve transplanted so far, although they got a little sad waiting for their new pots. After adding all 28 pots, my closet is absolutely BRIMMING with babies and I still have my Black Krims left to go. Luckily they make up the smallest percentage, so I think I can squish them in there with the right amount of effortā¦ And stuff shoved nearby to increase the useable space š This was a terrible idea and Iām loving every second
Itās Day 2 of the mega transplant! My Chocolate Cherries were moved to individual pots today. Luckily there were fewer of them than the Yellow Pears with a total of 18 pots versus the 25 YPs but I still think Iām going to run out of space. No worries, though. I think I have a plan. Anyway, the Chocolate Cherries seem to be a lot weaker than the Yellow Pears but they were the last ones to come up. Perhaps theyāre just younger and thatās why they look so sad? I suppose Iāll find out!
The transplanting begins! I ended up with 20 fully formed yellow pear tomatoes and five or six pots with four little guys each. Iām not sure if theyāll make it, but I figured I would give them a shot. They take up a SIGNIFICANT amount of space in the closet garden and I donāt think Iāll have enough space for everyone. Iām a determined little man when I want to be, though, so Iām gonna make it work šŖš±

The first real leaves are coming in on my yellow pear and black krim tomatoes so itās almost transplant time! Iām going to have to figure out what to do about spaceā¦
This little nugget appeared where one of my āsurvivor pupsā is barely hanging on but Iām not sure itās a spider plant. Itās a little round for that and doesnāt have the stripes. But it could be one of the solid-colored pups (I only have one but itās possible) and maybe itāll sharpen up over time. Thoughts?
Iām up to my eyeballs in seedlings today! The count as of 5:30 PM is:
~30 Yellow Pears
3 Chocolate Cherries
~21 Super Sweet 100 Hybrids
8 Black Krims
And this is still just the beginning! I expect many more Chocolate Cherries and Iām hoping for more Black Krims. They were such a delight~ šš±
Ichiban and Niban the jackfruits are doing very well! Ichiban made its first branch and one of these fun little leaves!
Oh godā¦ It begins š³
This little yellow pear tomato said hello to the world this morning. Obviously Iām thrilled to see it, but Iām suspecting that itās just the beginning of a long (and exciting!) tomato sagaā¦
Iām doing a bit of spring cleaning, which involves giving my spider plants some much needed pruning. Iām doing it in two parts: Clipping dead leaves and giving them all āhaircutsā by removing the longest leaves so they stay manageable. Iāve accomplished dead leaf removal and boy did they ever need it!
Some pups inevitably broke off in the process and while some were perfectly happy, most wereā¦ Really not.
The worst of them are shown here. Iāve been calling them my little survivors. Some already look a little happier since I put them in soil but I know that I got to some too late for them to make it. But it never hurts to give it a go. Spider plants are resilient as hell!
My baby lupine didnāt make it, so I went and made questionable life choices. BEHOLD:
These four pots contain the last of my tomato seeds! Thatās likely over 100 of them! They all expired between 2020 and 2024 so I figure that in 1-2 weeks, I will either have a stunning number of tomato seedlings orā¦ Nothing at all. Iām okay with either result. I loved growing tomatoes and another crop would be lovely. Growing Black Krims inside was exceptionally fun and rewarding and I wouldnāt mind some of those as well. And I figure that if I plant a ton of stuff, at least SOME of them have to survive to harvest. But if nothing happens, no harm is done and Iāll have cleaned out part of my seed drawer so I have room for new seeds. I canāt lose! šš±
You are going to have soooooo many tomatoes. The date printed isn't their expiration date, it's the year they were packaged for. Tomato seeds can stay viable for a long, long time, even in un-ideal conditions. The purported average is like 3 to 7 years of viability, but that's not to zero, that's to the point where people don't consider it worthwhile to rely on the seeds for a crop. Tomato seeds have germinated after 20 years kept at room temperatures. Just for fun, here's some germination percentages from some guy who kept a pile of tomato seed packets in his desk drawer for years:

Sadly my smallest mealybug-infested begonia has died, but this guy is still holding on. I did another treatment on him today and hardly found any bugs, so I thiiiiink heāll be able to come up to my closet garden/hospital soon. Fingers crossed!
My two successful lupine seedlings are doing quite well! I think these are going to be the only two, though. I havenāt seen any evidence that the other 25 are going to pop up any time soon. Iām giving them another week to show themselves and then Iām calling it. Iām not disappointed, though. If anything, Iām elated that any came up!
Remember when I planted my lupine and said I didnāt want to talk about why? Well Iām talking about it.
I was salty because, without giving away too much personal information, one of my doctors was making me go to a cardiologist. Look, my brain is totally broken and it has taken me years to accept that. But my body??? Iām only 30 for crying out loud! But I begrudgingly went. I was terrified to look at the results because what if my heart is faulty now too? And then I went down a rabbit hole of despair. Fun stuff.
Anyway, I finally got the courage to look andā¦ Everything is perfect! I have a very healthy heart that does everything a heart should do. Iām so happy and relieved. And when I feel things, even positive things, I plant things. This time itās bleeding hearts! Fitting, no?
Just like all of my other seeds, these are quite old, so I planted eight. Letās see how many come up!

Oh my wandering dude is WANDERING. Iād love to let him wander as much as he pleases, but heās a closet plant and I need the space. I have a little news and it requires some plantingā¦
