I'll probably do a redesign of him during the weekend bc i already have a few ideas about what i would change

I don't have a way of keeping up with Tumblr notifications and messages. This blog gets so much interaction even though I don't post often, so most notifs are muted. If you need to reach out, please do so via bsky.

HELLO TUMBLR BLOCKHEADS POSTING THIS HERE FOR THOSE WHO HAVENT HEARD
AurataPrime hosted a fanzine for PorcelainMaid’s 10 year streaming anniversary. Everyone on the project worked really hard and did amazing and I just had to share it over here as well for those who aren’t in the other blockhead spaces like twitter or the discord. Please PLEASE go support it and give it and the artists some love. Aurata did so much work (Coded a whole ARTBOOK!!!) and everyone cooked with their art pieces.
Also…I WAS APART OF IT!!!
This was my first ever Zine and I’m so proud of myself for having the courage to join. I learned a lot in order to take part in this (remember my Clipstudio crashout??? This was why I was fucking crashing out)
GO GIVE IT SOME LOVE TUMBLR BLOCKHEADS AND BEYOND!!!! EVERYONE COOKED AND EVERYONE DID AMAZING AND IM SO PROUD OF EVERYONE!!!!!!!
A fanmade zine to celebrate the 10th streaming anniversary of PorcelainMaid
We all worked very hard on this, and everyone's contributions were amazing 🩵🩷 I would recommend checking it out if you can
Hiiiii!!
Last RB is my art account. I'm sharing this here since it's a personal project that means a lot to me. It was made by a small team of artists with only one Mod, and the end result is beautiful. It's free to read, and there's even a free 3D Jowol/Porcelain Maid model that you can play around with and pose for fun 🩵

i'd like to add that the shadow color isnt necessarily dictated entirely by the primary light source, but the bounce light! so for the example of a sunny environment, the reason the shadows are blue are because of the light from the blue sky reflects across the environment; but, if the character were to be under tree cover, the bounce light would be coming from the leaves and thus the shadow would look greener.
Yee yee!!! You got it right on the nose!
Bounce light is something I didn't cover but I adore it!
Gotta work on my bounce light 💪

James Gurney is an absolute master and gives really good clarity on colour techniques. Yes, it is traditional paint focused, but the principles are the same. Yes it is informed by the environmental colour but as a painting technique it is achieved this way!
I would also suggest that in digital processing, rather than apply a regular colour layer at a mid opacity, try out the different types of layers, Eg. Screen or Multiply. This can give you at least a starting point to help direct your colour palette.
Layer Blend Modes are so so so important to working in digital art. There's a ton of math that goes into figuring out how the layers should blend together, which is why some of the modes you can pick are literally called Multiply, Add, Divide, and Difference (that's subtraction). The graphics software takes the color values of your base and blend layers and runs a calculation to get your resulting layer appearance. The ones that don't have specifically mathematical sounding names are still doing calculations, but they're more complicated (think linear Algebra and higher). Some of them, like dodge and burn, are named for actual photo editing techniques.
While it's not super important to know about the mathematical side of blend modes, I think it's worth knowing at least enough about how each of the categories of blend modes works and why they do what they do; if for no other reason than having a starting point when you start experimenting with them in your work.
An overview of the basic blend modes and how they work from Genevieve's Design Studio: Accessible with minimal color knowledge; practical and illustration focused. https://youtu.be/kMc87hQrJd0?si=TWCB365pKSfWS8p0. (16 minutes) This creator also has a ton of free resources you can download, including a Blend Modes cheatsheet, but fair warning: you have to create an account to get them!
Want to learn even more about the math-y stuff? It has great film visuals! A video from FilmmakerIQ: You need some basic knowledge of RGB color models, understanding of values/luma, and at least a tenuous understanding of Algebraic formulas. Evening Ensemble
Fontana
1954
The Fontana sisters, Micol, Zoe and Giovanna, designed this dress for Ava Gardner to wear in the 1954 film “The Barefoot Contessa.” Gardner was a devoted client of the Fontana Sisters, on and off the screen, and her patronage helped them to gain notoriety and achieve the success they did, particularly in America. The 1950s in particular saw great success for the house, as they designed for many American actresses and luminaries as well as Italian dignitaries and aristocrats. Known for their wasp-waisted, full-skirted evening dresses dripping with style, the sisters used high-quality, beautiful materials and frequently decorated the sumptuous silks and velvets with exquisite embroidery, as evidenced in this example.

Isn't it super cool? You could design so many characters in cyberpunk settings with make-up looks like this and it'll actually have a lore reason
