so today i learned that there are swaths of people in non-tumblr sapphic spaces that think that fetishes and very weird kinks are a thing that only men have and it’s because men are perverted and dirty and women just don’t have weird sexual interests because they are good and we like them and it’s a male thing to have fetishes which is why men suck and somehow higher rates of SA by men was used to back this up and i literally had to run back here crying holy fucking hell you guys it’s scary out there i would like to now bury myself amongst all the kinky sapphics here im so scared t.t

Guys how difficult do we think it is to become a human sexuality researcher with a focus in fetish and kink because the amount of cluelessness and lack of knowledge about this stuff genuinely distresses me so much. Like how this person cites and study that asked its participants about 40 pre-selected “paraphillic interests” and had them rate their levels of attraction and disgust. And finds that men have higher levels of interest in those pre-selected things. Which it is also noted to be largely interest that involve violence or lack of consent. And then the person concludes that this is proof that women have less fetishes and less kinks than men. But the only thing that proves is that men have more interest in those specific things the researchers chose, which are likely the most commonly seen things out in culture, which are likely more common because we live in fUcking patriarchy and men’s desires get uplifted and encouraged far more than women. I’m crashin out guys I need people to think critically I can’ttt 😭
