I know I ain't a TV show expert and critic like the people who, unlike me, did catch up with the books in between seasons, so they have now basically gained the right to say the people who nurtured their love for these books for decades got it all wrong, but you know I just loved the consistently protected narrative and deep, deep, deep overwhelming love-through-my-screen in crafting these characters on paper first and on the screen next, or the beautiful, touching, mesmerizing introspective route that actually also made ME cry for Armand, so even if I haven't read the books, like these people have, I guess it didn't go that bad for a girl who can appreciate A PERFECTLY GOOD FUCKING TELEVISION SHOW.

I'm living a little hard time, that seems to be following me for a while, and The Vampire Lestat is quite one of the few things I'd consider like a lifeline, you know, it's exciting because it's been years in the making and it's finally here and it doesn't disappoint in the slightest.

As a storyteller and avid TV show watcher I'm actually loving it in a fond way, like I recognise the excellent writing and acting, the amount of love behind, the pure dedication and it's like I'm so sure I'm in for a treat! This show, that I stumbled upon in 2022, still feels like it's Christmas day. I ended S1 feeling such an excitement in me. I remember it had a small almost demure fandom lol, but I haven't been in one since I'm my early twenties so I may be wrong.

This is actually a rant about this fandom.

At the end of another glorious season the second one was, I remember being irritated by some ridiculous discourse around the morality of vampires and I stepped in, feeling the urge to call people dumb. Now having finished to watch S3E2 I'm being fucking pissed again by the pointless overanalyzing people could use to write Fanfictions or even essays, I don't care, anything but being disrespectful to a literal work of art that has shaped and built itself in its. own. fucking. way.

I still haven't read the books and I'm not planning to, but you know who did and did it countless times during the last decades? The people writing and acting in it :)

It's like the more a fandom grows the more discordant opinions are formed in a dick-size-competition way like I have to show the world that I have read the books after I started to watch the show!!! and everything these people are doing in the show is wrongg bc in the books meh meh meh!

You give such an honesty ridiculous vibes, kids, and some grown up have to step in and call you out.

One thing is to express discomfort over narrative choices, another thing is to talk shit about the writing of this particular show. In this case, I'm sorry, not only you're wasting your own precious time but you're simply utterly wrong.

As a die hard The Office's (US) connoisseur, I approach every reboot or spin off gladly because I'm AWARE nothing will never ever top that, so I have no issues whatsoever with people trying. This is what I thought about The Office Australia and this is what I think about The Paper.

First of all: Domhnall Gleeson.

Second of all: it kinda slowwwwwwly grew on me? Like idk I got used to one or two episodes before bed, after long days at work. I don't find it perfect like my Office was, because its place in time and culture is structurally dead and gone, babes, let's be honest, but I liked it more than the Australian version and I think it was mainly the element of the crew's storyline. It felt like home, a little, and I think it has the potential to dramatically improve itself.

Third of all: 🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻SABRINA🤌🏻🤌🏻🤌🏻 still trying to figure out 🤌🏻HOW did she find herself working in Hollywood, it's something that makes me laugh (affectionate), but why did they call the Italian character ESMERALDA what the fuck 🤌🏻🤌🏻non è mica spagnola!!! What the fuck also with that surname like she's a second generation immigrant or something, she's more italian than the actual soil I'm standing in, that woman can't help but be Italian, born and raised, every second she's in.

Please solve the structurally issues that clashes with stuff like reality and the viewers perception of these characters and RENEW IT!!

IT'S STILL POSSIBLE TO REMAKE THE OFFICE US IN 2025!!!

I have to be honest. I don't know if this opinion is entirely fueled by the state my life is in right now, but I've found The Bear S4 at times boring, corny (the under the table moment........................) and even predictable. I've also found myself skipping useless scenes because I'm done tolerating them after last season's The Faks' Show. I'm completely fucking annoyed at Syd still not speaking her mind and dragging herself around with apathy. I actually don't get these characters anymore, like, their personality is to scream nonsense at each others, after all this time. I've seen little growth and big time wasted, once again.

RIP The Bear S1 and 2, you were dear to me and you were loved.

I'm still watching Doctor Who to catch up mostly out of love, but in my early twenties this show held me in such a chokehold and I used to be like the biggest Steven Moffat apologist that ever existed (I still fondly remember some of the episodes he wrote like the Eleventh doctor's stories, my favourite ones) but I've just watched Lux and I have to say RTD did him sooooooooo dirty oh my God, he outshined the shit out of him! That's a once in a lifetime experience as a fan, like, there I am at 33 yo giggling, clapping and screaming THEY'RE ACTUALLY COMING OUT THE TV!!!!

It took me back for one night, like, I'm sure he'll come back to be his cautious self in the next one but I will forever remember the night RTD drank the shiny potion and stole the spotlight.

No Other Land (2024)

So, I've watched No Other Land and you have no idea the way I'm restraining myself not to waste my precious time and go full rant on The World's Smallest Dick Army and Their Nonexistent Dicks*, followed by The Stinkiest Ass Settlers that I've ever had The Misfortune to Smell Through the Screen (yes, the stink was so rancid, I will never ever recover).

I'm pissed beyond words, I got up from the chair and haven't still opened my mouth. This is happening for YEARS and the west is deliberately choosing to ignore it and abbandon these people.

I won't be able to talk much about the welcoming and friendly souls that easily accepted Yuval without even blinking. I won't be able to talk much about Masafer Yatta's moving desire to fucking live, or the bits that made me laugh because Palestinians are such funny people, in spite of this ongoing struggle and because of it. I specifically won't be able to talk about Basel's law degree, only useful to build constructions in israel. I haven't still said anything because most of the scenes are fucking painful to digest. Palestinians' struggle will be a part of me as long as I live on this earth. Their liberation, or being able to visit it as a liberated land someday is The Dream.

Basel and Yuval's friendship deeply moves me since the night they won at the Berninale and stood undoubtedly unite and so brave in a way that The Smallest Tiniest Dick Army would never, could never. This documentary is a collective effort and Basel is right: liberation takes a hell of a lot of patient, and it's a dark and twisted journey, still, these young people are my heroes and in spite of everything they shine such a light of hope and friendship that I fuking need to aknowledge.

*I only condone this type of body shaming when I refer to fake institutions that base their strength on machismo, no, I won't change my mind, yes I am a bad person. You know who is more evil than an angry woman? Zionists. Don't even make me start on the meme-ification of the bastard g*l g*dot presening this documentary at the fucking oscars, because I don't get it. It's not a meme, i'ts creepy af and I'm so weirded out by this.

You should have seen my face when I realized Babygirl wasn't some frivolous story about having a dangerous affair. I mean yes, it is, but you really should have seen my face when it became clear he wasn't the hot ladder climber he seemed to appear in the trailer. That fuckboy acted like a compassionate being with an extremely good intuition and this was actually a story about social restrictions and mind cages and generational differences on sexual liberation? Like. What? I honestly enjoyed the panic attack Antonio Banderas has towards the end, when Harris Dickinson tells him something like sex is not what you think it is anymore, because it's more accepting and adventurous and deeply connected with communication. Like at some point I could see why Nicole Kidman immediately said yes to this movie the moment she knew what the title was.

And you know, I think the last scene of him with the black dog is just a mental trick she does while having sex with her husband. I don't see it like a scene actually happening somewhere at the same moment. I think it's all in her mind because she allows herself to enjoy sex the way she likes and it's because of him.

Really unexpectedly loved it

I've watched Queer by Luca Guadagnino like a week ago. I don't think I've processed it yet. The only thing I've managed to say about it, was that the melting/dancing scene in the jungle outshines his entire filmography.

I don't get very technical when I truly love a movie, I'm very on the emotional side here and, again, I don't think I've processed it at all.

I've LOVED three things about this movie:

Daniel Craig's character struggling and longing for love like a complete relatable loser. I said to a friend "you MUST watch this happening. Like culturally."

The melting/dancing scene.

The look on Drew Starkey's firm face in most scenes, but especially in the one where Lesley Manville's character says something like you know what you feel/felt.

I thought I would become completely obsessed with it, but it didn't happen and I blame employment and social life. But this movie deserved a post in my little blog, so I took some time to acknowledge it and quote something I've read somewhere. It goes along the lines of: [this movies] is about longing for ourselves the way we long for others.

I've read One hundred years of solitude a decade ago, established that that was the most beautiful piece of writing I've ever read, closed it and to this day never opened it ever again. In my memory is still the perfect work. When the series was announced years ago I was in full gatekeeper mode like no you're gonna ruin it for meee my perfect Colombian magic world I won't watch it it's gonna be a complete shit show! and other cringe worthy dramatic reactions.

Thank God I've read a lot of other beautiful pieces of writing since then and I'm also glad to say I don't do gatekeeping anymore, like it's awkward... I don't care, please enjoy o don't enjoy stuff idcccc.

But with time passing I totally forgot about the series and when I accidentally saw the trailer I was oh, they speak Spanish and it looks like good directing, I'm gonna watch it yeah whatever.

Then some other time passed and I forgot again the series was being released lmao one of my best friends said oh and we absolutely need to talk about one hundred years of solitude and I was like IS IT OUT?? It was out for about ten days at that point, kids........

I call this being +30 in my experience.

Now, I've almost finished it during the weekend. I only need to watch the last episode and I don't have much to say about this show. It's perfect. It's perfect in a honouring, touching way. Only a series would have been the perfect vehicle for a universe of stories like these. But to see these characters actually come alive, like the way Aureliano is portrayed? Are you kidding me??? That's him. I'm so happy this took years and years of consideration, planning and building because it shows.

But I don't know if people can appreciate these stories without having read AND loved the book first. Like. I realise it's pretty controversial all the time, I think that's also why it took a lifetime for Gabo's heirs to grant permission. This last aspect was what convinced me to definitely give it a chance. I'm slightly curious to know what people approaching these story for the first time through the show, think. It's a lot. I get it. But if you don't love the show you'd hate the book too.

For people who loved the book, this might be the perfect little magical Colombian weird world coming to life and it's undoubtedly a feeling I once felt with the Harry Potter movies, so it was really nice.

I was in the shower this morning and I thought I'll watch Conclave because I need some Holy Spirit-talking-through-humans type of moment, like sometimes the exhaustion can be so high, you actually forget how faith works, its warmness, its reassuring concept... movies can do that too, so.

Anyway I was so invested in this thriller, it was utterly delicious to see once again how flawed humans crumble onto this very harsh realization. I loved how this story kept surprising me, overall I think it's about answering the right prayers which is what happens all the time, whether we like it or not. The different languages and accents were such a beautiful nod to what 'catholic' really stands for, which is 'universality' but I felt that warmness I was looking for, during the sermon Lawrence gives because ultimately that's the answered prayer, something the viewer easily dismiss as a brilliant speech and nothing else, but prayers are subtle like that and progress can be so painful and slow and it costs lives. I think it's a movie about understanding and accepting the times we live in. I think.

As an italian, the whole electing procedure always fascinated me. Sadly, mine is a country built on traditions. Sometimes we give them too much importance it's embarassing, but I admit they can be fascinating because of repetitiveness, ancient gestures handed down to the present.

On a technical excited note, Conclave is fucking epic!!! and all of the performances managed to build a safe space for exceptionality to thrive!!! Like, I even found Sergio Castellitto tolerable with his little vaper.

Your Monster is such a love letter to the self, particularly to the feminine, and an ode to one's discovering strength like... the subtext wasn't even subtexting at all for me but the story still managed to be entertaining and engaging and for sure one I wish I had written myself.

Listen, as a lifelong avid TV shows viewer and a twitter user for half of my life, The Office (US) ((but I don't really need to specify which one I'm referring to, right?)) was a dream of mine for so long. The moment I found out am*z*n pr*me had it, you have to believe me, I completely wore the hell out of that platform section.

It was 2019, I was somewhere in my middle twenties and I was going through the end of university years. Saying I was an emotional sad mess walking is really an understatement. Imagine watching the show's finale in that state. It became a cry for help. I kept watching it over and over for a couple of years to the point I still make references and connections but with time passing, it sadly has became a reminder of that tough time in my life. I think it's been four years since I last watched an episode? More or less. I don't know anymore.

All of this to say I binge watched the australian version today. Honestly, the release news left me completely uninterested lmao but it's the weekend and I gave it a go. So this is what I think about it.

The characters are there and in 2024 it's still possible-ish to do a remake of the show. This is the good news. On a vibe level, though...this version doesn't seem to be quite there. The writing and situations are too rushed and the characters seems to acknowledge the camera waaaaaaaay too lightly, taking away from the viewer the pure delight to witness the embarrassment and awkwardness that comes from a situation like this. But, another good news is: narratively you can go anywhere, even with characters, you just have to know how to do it. I liked the things they did differently with the characters, but honestly this wasn't at its full potential. It could have been better.
