hamdan has been released. i'm beyond relieved, and yet a part of me is heartbroken for all the captives that aren't oscar winners. for whom there is no publicity.

please don't stop talking about them. don't stop talking about palestine. there is no freedom, anywhere, until palestine is free. and for that, we need to keep talking. remember their names. remember their faces. remember hossam shabat, and countless other innocent lives martyred by the occupation. they cannot and should not be forgotten.

I took an extra long weekend so it was a two film day with an opera in between. It was quite the odd run for the day, in theme and mood.

I should have watched No Other Land much sooner, regardless of how difficult a watch it was. Il barbiere di Siviglia was my first Italian opera and I don't know that it's gone a long way toward increasing my interest but I will persevere, at least for a few more attempts. The General was Buster Keaton physical comedy based on a true Civil War story, except he represented the south so I don't quite know what to do with that.
