steve: so i'm breaking away from the avengers, i invited some avengers to join me in this secret group sb: oh? what's the name of the group? the defenders? the vigilantes? the strikers? stevie and the jets?? steve: it's the secret... avengers....

𝙸𝚃 𝚆𝙰𝚂 𝙰 𝚃𝙴𝙼𝙿𝚃𝙸𝙽𝙶 𝙿𝚁𝙾𝙿𝙾𝚂𝙰𝙻 , a proposal she obviously had mentally accepted it in the moment the words left his mouth. it wasn’t about respect due to who he was, it was about what was RIGHT. & the agency she once worked for now didn’t mean anything more what it once did to her. ❝ You don’t need to say anything more, Cap. ❞ besides, the blonde found out not too long ago that dead was the new alive. ❝ How will it work & when should I disappear? ❞
perhaps he should be expecting acceptance by now, but it never failed to strike steve as a pleasant surprise when someone readily took up his invitation to join the new team. it inevitably pulled the corner of the man's mouth into a crooked grin that he had no intent in hiding. ❛ huh. that's ––– good to hear, i'm glad you're in. ❜ his smile is a tad larger. ❛ we will be functioning primarily as a black ops squadron, we will work in the shadows. nobody outside authorized personnel will know we exist. for now, we're operating under the name of secret avengers. i'm leading the team along with agent 13. we will be based on a quinjet, travelling and working through the americas. ❜ a beat, letting the information sink in. ❛ as for when you can disappear, as soon as you can manage. ❜
steve named the team secret avengers as a temporary type of thing but then after some time just couldn't be arsed to change it to something cooler/nicer so it just stayed that.
i want threads of our muses writing each other letters who's gonna give me this

ANGER , for more reasons than one. “ Those potted plants in your lobby were in dire need of something refreshing I helped them out this time… but there won’t be second chances. ” Slender feet rested upon the coffee table, the chair tilting slightly with her movement. “Captain.” Shortness catches her tone. “ I assume that wasn’t the reason I got an invitation though, was it? ”
were it anyone else, rogers may have shrugged off the comment as a joke and offered up a smile. instead, knowing exactly who he was speaking to, he assumes a solemn disposition and nods as assurance. ❛ the plants are not mine, it's the neighbour's. but i'll give 'em a heads up about it later. ❜ he offers sincerely. always one to keep his word. his eyes shift between her feet on the table to her eyes. she'd made herself comfortable quickly. ❛ no, it wasn't. i wanted to ask for your help. i've got an incoming operation that might align our interests, and you'll be perfect for the job. ❜ his chin tilts upwards. ❛ would you like some coffee? ❜

❝ you & me both, commander ❞ it’s bittersweet, the fragile reminder of her own departure from the home she’d made in shield: even more so the reasons why she’d taken the leap & stepped down. she’d refrain from admitting that the reason was him. ❝ shield’s not what it used to be, & i can’t help but feel that i’m the one to blame for that ❞ the closest she’ll be to an actual apology, ❝ a lot happened that i blame myself for ❞
blame seemed to be a part of the air they breathed these days. it lurked behind every thought, hung to every particle in the air, weighed down every shoulder it could find. steve had his fair share, carried much more of it than he'd let on, and was not surprised to see his former colleague ( was she a friend still? ) take on a good load herself. ❛ we all do. ❜ assures the former captain, offering her a smile that feels little more than practised. ❛ nobody with a conscience walks out of a war feeling better about themselves. ❜ a beat. he doesn't let it settle for long. ❛ what have ya been doing these days? workin' with any other team? ❜
