The two walked in an awkward yet solemn silence until they reached the sickbay doors. Maybe, James thought, Kittyâs memory would come back just by seeing the place sheâs spent so long in. He knew that it probably wouldnât work, but thereâs always hope.
âHere we are. sickbay. Weâll have the other medical officers do some scans and tests so donât worry. They know you pretty well and they wonât hurt you at all.â he said. âAnd, uh, if you remember anything, anything at all, just tell me.â He took a small step towards the doors and they slid open. He gestured for Kitty to enter ahead of him. Inside, Kittyâs medical team stood ready.
âAfter youâ James said.
Kitty had her arms folded tightly under her chest, subconsciously rubbing her left arm with her right thumb nervously. She thought she heard a bit of hope in his voice, . She had no idea who he was but she knew he was important and didnât want to disappoint him.Â
Kitty quickly shuffled inside, muttering âsorryâ to James as she stepped past him. Every face and every object in the room was completely foreign to her, despite how hard she was trying to remember. Everyone around her knew her, knew her well, according to James, yet she couldnât remember seeing any of these faces before. She tried to open her mouth to speak but couldnât make a sound. She wasnât even sure what to say anyway.Â
