Discover science fun with Family SCIFest at the Children’s Museum Tucson
Science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) will take over the Children’s Museum Tucson on Saturday, February 15, 2014! The Children’s Museum Tucson will once again host one of 6 signature events in Pima County of the Arizona SciTech Festival, with Family SCIFest, encouraging children to explore STEM in our daily lives.
While the Museum will offer FREE ADMISSION all day (10:00 am to 5:00 pm), the Family SCIFest activities will take place between 10:00 am and 2:00 pm both inside the Museum as well in the courtyard and on the lawn along 6th Avenue.
Family SCIFest is geared for families and children of all ages to explore STEM in real ways and learn about the broad spectrum of STEM-related careers in Southern Arizona. Children will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations, activities and experiments in the areas of aerospace, astronomy, biology, ecology, engineering and environmental sciences as well as mathematics and physics.
Participating guest organizations for Family SCIFest include: Academy of Math and Science, Arizona SciTech, AZ Project WET, Center for Integrated Access Networks, Connections Academy, Environments Education Exchange, Physics Factory, Pima County Public Library, Pima for Kids, Pima JTED Programs, Planetary Science Institute, Reid Park Zoo, SARSEF, Society of Women Engineers, Tech Parks Arizona, Tucson Unified Schools, UA Space Imagery, University of Arizona and more!
The Children’s Museum Tucson offers children the ability to learn the fundamentals of STEM by playing and exploring with the hands-on exhibits in Investigation Station and by participating in our weekly Roll-Out-Science programming. Roll Out Science is an exclusive program created by Children’s Museum Tucson that creates an opportunity for children to form a hypothesis and experiment in order to come up with a scientific conclusion based what they have investigated. Throughout February, Museum staff will also be showcasing new Nano Science activities. These are courtesy of the NISE Network, a national community of researchers and informal science educators dedicated to fostering public awareness, engagement and understanding of nanoscale science, engineering and technology.
Free admission for the Family SCIFest is made possible through the financial support of our presenting sponsor Tucson Electric Power and supporting sponsors: Madden Media, Pima County JTED, Target and Texas Instruments.
