Just uploading stuff at Morgan’s ribbing... also I haven’t uploaded anything in a while and I can’t post anything I’ve been working on recently. These are almost a year old by now.

Sketched one of my favorite people I have never had the pleasure of knowing (that fucking interview with his grandmother). It’s Danny fucking Sexbang. 

So his facial features are really hard to pin down for me, but I’m pretty satisfied. Would like to color, but I don’t know if I’ll get around to it.

Working on more promotional art for Bad Star!

This time I’m practicing backgrounds to see how the filter works. So far I’m liking it, although I haven’t been able to get my setting back to exactly how they were last time. I’m losing a lot of color depth, and I don’t know what I did the first time I used Permanent Press 2 to get my cover art. 

This style is roughly what I plan on doing for the backgrounds. Only with more color in the day since I went monochrome (aside from the lamp light that is) since it’s night.

Bad Star is happening. I’m currently working on resolving myself to write the first chapter, and I’ve purchased a very good photoshop plugin to make it appear as though it were printed in the 1950s (the timeframe of the story itself). The filter is called Premanent Press 2 and is available via Mister Retro (link here).

Morgan is helping me manage the fine details. She has a number of ideas on how I can monetize and make Bad Star a practical venture for me. One [likely] idea is using Patreon as a way to monetize with by-creation payments. As indicated in the cover, one idea for rewards is for certain Patrons to get actual baseball cards of the principle cast.

In any case, Bad Star is just getting off the ground. Call it pre-production. This filter isn’t even the final product. I just got my hands on the plugin and have yet to perfect the filter. This is a rough idea of what it will look like. I’m currently having trouble saving my custom presets, though. It should (hopefully) look much better in the end!

Calvin and Woolie are going to be part of a one-shot story in Bad Star. Early on I wanted a character whose pajamas come to life and possess psychic powers rather than the kid who wears it. I guess part of it also came from this Hyperbole and a Half comic.

I was kicking a pun around for the wolf's name. "Woolf" or "Woolfie" was the idea (being a wool set of pajamas, der), then I just fuckin' tripped face-first into a reference to Woolie of the Best Friends Zaibatsu. So the name stays. Especially since his first planned appearance is in a garbage bin.

Part of Woolie's design also came from Star Fox/Wolf. Calvin? I dunno. I kinda had a Butters from South Park vibe I ran with.

Okay, so as I was listening to SBFC 55, where everyone describes what an "anime based on their lives" would be like, Pat actually came up with a really fucking awesome idea: "Supernatural-esque black comedy... monsters and evil shit, and it would be all the things I think are happening are actually happening, instead of... not."

Pat's idea was essentially the MC (in this case, him, of course) getting caught up in his own head about "monsters and evil shit" actually being real when they're not. But I took the idea and spun it around in a different direction. Sort of like Haruhi, the paranoid neurotic shit he thinks up actually influences reality and makes them tangibly real.

I spun my own story from this concept. Still working on it, but this is it in a nutshell. The main character is Howard Albertson, and clearly heavily taken from Pat, just stretched out into this gaunt, lanky, sickly fellow. He's a comic book artist who keeps to himself, and his "best friend" is Isaac Reid, his publisher/editor. Isaac is, essentially, based on Plague of Gripes, and the fact that he throws fuel on Pat's proverbial fire (not in a sexual way... I don't think, anyway).

The idea here is that Isaac treats Howie like his golden goose. Because of how neurotic Howard is he develops richly frightening imagery for his comics. So Isaac prods him. A horror buff himself, he feeds disturbing facts into Howard's brain to see what comes out the other end. It's just that for Howard, what comes out is real, and doesn't stop at ink on the page.

Like, one story'd be about how there's a roach in his fridge so he dumps out all of his food (cough), buys more groceries and a big bag of ice and dumps it all in the bathtub. And the roach keeps getting bigger in his head, so by the end of it, it's big enough to explode from the fridge and attacks Howie.

I kind of want the character of Isaac to meet his end via a scary monster and his last words are "Well, at least it's not a FUCKING DRAGON!" Or maybe he gets eaten by a dragon. Whatever.

Aaanyway... I can't decide whether or not Isaac should be bald like Plague or have some hair. Also of note is that I'm splashing a bit of Matt into Isaac through his casual wear and obsession with skull print stuff. Maybe there'll be a Woolie or Liam-like character down the line. Idunno.

Also, I need a name for this. I'm bad at naming my things.

I'm so bored I gave my cat a Stand. This is based on a stupid conversation Morgan and I had while lying in bed at night trying to get to sleep. Earlier that day, I accidentally spooked my cat (Razu) who was lying on a nightstand table thingy we have lying about the living room. He darted the fuck off and flipped the table completely - not just knocked it over, but flipped it. Hence, my cat's stand.

Yup. Sure. Whatever.

The Flaming Lips (FLIPS for short) turns any object or person on its head. That's what it does: flips something 180 degrees. Kinda like photoshop, except it's not instantaneous, you have to go the full motion.

Hey, there have been more useless stands than that.

Also, I still can't fucking draw non-human anatomy.

Because finding out about Breath of Fire 6 has left me so bummed out, I've been playing a bit of the old and good ones... namely, my favorite, BOF III. So here's some fanart.
