if I had a nickel for everytime a character called Allison had a bow and arrow for a weapon, I’d have two nickels, which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.

Yellowjackets Relationships
One of the things I like about Yellowjackets is the fact that everyone has such a complex relationship with each other, especially the survivors, in and out of the wilderness. Obviously with what the girls went through out there, they’re going to struggle to have healthy relationships with those around them.
We see this with Shauna, Callie and Jeff. While she loves them, she’s afraid to show it because of her guilt with what happened with Jackie and I can’t even begin to imagine what she went through psychologically when she found out she was pregnant with Callie. To me, Shauna is being the typical suburban mom to get away from the wilderness life and how she acted out there. She needs to keep that dark part of her suppressed. As a result, she struggles to have an honest relationship with Callie and Jeff, which I definitely think will reach a boiling point this season due to a line Callie says in one of the trailers about her mom being a bad person.
Another Shauna relationship I’m interested in is her one with Jackie, it was clearly a very complicated relationship- Shauna was stuck living in Jackie’s shadow, constantly being told what to do, what to wear, who to be with, naturally this made Shauna resentful and was possibly venting about it in her diaries. I think the reason she originally got with Jeff was to defy Jackie, in a way, like “oh you want me to fuck Randy? How bout I fuck your bf instead?” It was literally her way of standing up to Jackie. Then they have this big fight out in the wilderness that ultimately leads to Jackie’s death that has a huge impact on Shauna, as she feels responsible for it. It literally influences how the rest of her life goes. In her own way, she feels like she’s honouring Jackie by marrying Jeff(She’s not btw, as Jackie didn’t really like him lmao).
I cant do a post like this and not mention the most intriguing character in the show Taissa Turner, who has her other personality that she has no control over and does bad things. It seems highly stressful situations cause other Tai to come out and when she does, it has severe consequences. Other Tai willingly destroyed her own family and sacrifice her dog to get what she wanted. Obviously Simone and Sammy made the correct decision by getting out very quickly, but it’s hard not to feel bad for Tai who currently seems to be trapped in her own body and has no control over her actions, perhaps a personality disorder? Ultimately Tai goes back to Van, because she knows about her other self and perhaps Van is the only one who can control her.
Ultimately, the relationships in Yellowjackets are very complex and while they're all deeply traumatised, they know to look out for each other.
Does the trauma justify the girls actions?
In a previous post, I admitted I couldn’t hate any of the yj characters because of what they went through out there, but that doesn’t mean I agree with all of the decisions that they made, and as we know, there was a lot of wtf moments.
First of all, the doom coming incident and aftermath. What the girls did to Travis and Jackie was horrific, high on shrooms or not. Worse than that it was the beginning of a domino effect that ultimately led to Jackie’s death at the end of the season. None of the girls felt an ounce of remorse for nearly trying to kill Travis and locking Jackie away. Secondly, Javi’s death in season 2. As Van said in one of the trailers “they ate a fucking kid” and literally let him die because of how desperate they were (ironic how they did it for Lottie when she didn't even want it). Even when they carried his body back to camp, they treated him like an animal, not their soccer coaches son. Which like....what was the reason??? He was a kid😭.
Now on to season 3, where we really see them go insane especially with how they dealt with Ben, injuring him so badly that he begs for death. Then of course, Shauna suggests eating him to “honour” him, which suggests that they’re doing it for fun, because they actually had food and it’s a nice continuation of her line in the first episode about them “liking” the cannibalism. This is probably why they don’t want people knowing what happened out there. That means our new bird watcher characters aren’t gonna last too long. They’ve seen too much.
While I can’t deny what the girls went through out there was traumatising and I don’t hate them, I have to admit, I can’t justify some of the stuff they did out there.
Supernatural vs Trauma response in Yellowjackets
Perhaps the most discussed subjects in the Yellowjackets fandom is the supernatural vs psychological debate the show has. Season 1, in my opinion, went in a more supernatural direction, while season 2 went in a more psychological direction.
Originally, when I first watched the show, I was team Supernatural mainly because of the seance scene with Lottie and Laura Lee's death scene, there really felt like there was a supernatural presence with them, trying to tell them what it wants and stopping them from leaving. But with season 2 and 3, I've slowly started to become more team psychological because, I believe the theme of the show is trauma and how it can effect you years later and makes you behave a certain way.
I think it's highlighted with Shauna's infamous quote at the end of season 2 claiming that there's no 'it' and that 'it' was just them, to which Lottie responds 'Is there a difference?', because to her, there is no justifying what they did out there. One might argue that they did what they could to survive and that they all descended into madness trying to do so. But some of the girls don't want to face what they did, so they created an entity who they believed chose to live or die. We see this after Javi’s death in season 2, both Nat and Van claim the “Wilderness chose” him as a sacrifice, when all they literally had to do was pull him out of the water- but the harsh reality is that it was their choice to let him die. They don’t want to admit the lengths they were willing to go to survive- because deep down they know it’s morally wrong. which is why I think there’s no “it” and that it was literally just them. :)
Why I find it hard to hate the characters in Yellowjackets
Typically, in various forms of media, there’s always a character that everyone seems to hate. Whether it’s due to their actions or a silly reason such as “getting in the way” of a certain ship, one way or another there always seems to be a character that’s disliked.
For me with Yellowjackets, it’s different, no matter what they do in the past or the present, I cannot seem to hate them. Do they do some messed up things in the past AND present? Absolutely. But do I think they should die for it? No, I do not.
But why?
Right now, we’re about halfway through season 3, and the character I’m seeing the most hate for is Shauna. People are finding it very hard to like her especially with how she acted during the trial and basically bullied the jury into getting her way. Now was that the best thing to do? No, it wasn’t. But I think that Shauna had her own reasons for wanting Ben dead, and it wasn’t because of the fire, it was because in her eyes, he, as their coach, abandoned her in her time of need, when she was having a very traumatic birth. We often forget that the girls were literally just kids going through this shit. Not to mention Shauna is going through post-partum and grieving the loss of two important people in her life, so she is carrying a lot of emotion, and while I don’t think Ben deserved his current circumstances, I can see why Shauna acted the way she did. As she said in season 2, she didn’t start out a bad person but the stuff she went through changed her, and to be honest, why wouldn’t it? No one should be going through that loss at such a young age.
The same can be said for Travis, although more people seem to be liking him more this season. Again, like the rest of them, he is a teenager stranded in the wilderness trying to survive, while dealing with the loss of his dad, and later his brother and while he copes with this differently to Shauna, he still had his bad moments, which led to a lot of people to dislike him. But, personally, I just couldn’t bring myself to dislike him especially knowinh what he went through.
Finally, the adult survivors in general are all severely messed up because of what they endured out there, which explains a lot of their actions later in life, and how they interact with those around them, e.g Callie, Simone, Sammy. The show literally explains why they act the way they do and for that, I just can’t hate any of them.

THERES A WHAT-
I wonder what its about👀
I love how in Cindy and Ziggys death scene Harry, Ruby and Billy are walking then Tommy's running like "fuck this they've killed me twice already I just want to kill theses mfs"
How many of Karen’s books have you correctly guessed the reveals for?
spoilers obviously
i guessed the final line of tckas like… one chapter into the book because it literally says “two homecoming queens” and sadie was the homecoming queen so i was like ? yeah it was obviously supposed to be sadie. i didn’t even think it was a reveal like i literally assumed the entire town would guess that they had been mixed up. also guessed it was peter bc he was creepy as hell, but i did think katrin would have a bigger role than she did
oouil i guessed the simon suicide but not all the moving pieces like janae and jake and how it all fit together
oouin i guessed that it was phoebe’s sister because i mean…obviously?? but i never guessed the owen reveal that had me SHOOK
and you’ll be the death of me i did not guess a single thing—i mean except for the fact that lara was involved somehow but that was a pretty easy one. everything else came flying out of left field 😭😭
also i haven’t read the cousins yet but i will keep updated on how i go!!
You'll be the death of me had me so confused 😭
This fandom is gonna explode in 4 minutes and I'm so ready for the chaos

The more i think about it the more pissed I am that they got rid of the "omniscient narrator" scene it still wouldve worked despite the twist being slightly changed.
Also Mark McKenna would've nailed that scene, he's definitely what I pictured Simon and he's Irish which is a huge plus
