Another common misconception about vampires is the fangs, I personally like the aesthetics of fangs especially in pop culture, but in folklore, fangs were rarely ever (if ever) mentioned!
Fangs were popularized on stage and screen adaptations of Dracula!
Normal basic vampire stuff. The blood sucking and the coffins, turning into a bat, something with sunlight, fangs, and then the counting thing you told me.
Ok so, the ability to shapeshift was a literary addition and not a consistent thing in folklore, the sunlight thing was added and popularized by the 1922 film Nosferatu; A symphony of horror, I just told you about the fang thing and theres also the grain thing..
So basically everything you know about vampires is not true to the original folklore, but thats ok!
