Hi! This is Spencer of the Unicorn System speaking. In light of the news of Simply Plural going down, we are making a web app alternative to Simply Plural and Octocon. Introducing: Cocoon! Our app will be initially exclusively browser based, but we have hopes to one day make a mobile app. We are a dev team of one body and several alters all working together with one common goal: to make a resource for all systems to use to work toward whatever recovery goal might be right for them. But why should you keep up with our app development? Especially when we don't even have a blog profile picture yet? Let us give you a few reasons.

We are trying to make something similar to Simply Plural in design and layout while also adding extra features. Basic features planned are things such as front logging, alter profiles, a system profile, and an internal chat system. The extra features we plan on adding are things such as extra customization (alter banners, built in coding capabilities for text decorations, dark mode and light mode, font size settings), a custom discord bot to go with the app, journal systems, and personally vetted resources for systems or even singlet friends looking to help their system buddies. Sadly, we are unable to have the notification or social aspect built into the app for the moment, however we have a few ideas for work arounds and potential future plans of expanding.

We, an OSDD system of 25+ members, are committed to making a safe space for all systems, no matter the size, shape, origin, or anything else for that matter. We want to make a space where every system and system member can feel wanted, supported, and like they belong because we ourselves have yet to find a community that has made us feel that way. We refuse to partake in syscourse and any socials, community spaces, or anything else will be impartial and welcoming.

We will be (hopefully) posting weekly updates on Tumblr and possibly Tiktok. We will be more than receptive to community feedback and concerns, as community happiness is our top priority.

Our app will have NO ADS and will be funded purely by my own personal funds or community donations.

Update 5/3/2026 - We're (tentatively) Back!

Hello there! We're sincerely sorry for the accidental hiatus. We started this project and then promptly had physical and mental health issues that took priority. However, we are (tentatively) returning to this project now that things seem to be settling down, especially with the definitive announcement of Simply Plural shutting down July 1st. We are taking a much more relaxed approach to this than before - instead of aiming for it to be finished sooner rather than later, we'd much rather make a polished project that's released a little later. My hope is that by January 2027 we'll have a working product up and finished. This gives us plenty of time for breaks, vacations, our bajillion doctor's appointments, and work. We'll also be posting updates less frequently and more on an as-needed basis instead of weekly. We will also be moving all the alter intros into our personal blog, theunicornsystem. We'll be posting one soon, so keep an eye out! Thank you so much to everyone who has been supporting, liking, reblogging, commenting and more! The only reason we've had the courage to pick this back up is because of you all, so thank you!

Meet The System - Part 1: The Spencers

We decided that we would use our new HTML skills to try and make some alter intro posts. These aren't going to be traditional posts of lists of 'stats', but instead text posts hitting key points. First up is me, Spencer, and my internal friend, Spencer Reid.

We're 'lumping' ourselves together due to the fact that most of the time there's so much blurring and blending between us that we're basically one alter anyway, but we're also distinct enough that we have two separate roles and names. No idea what that's called, but that's what it is.

I, Spencer, am a very shadowy figure that tends to morph and change and be shapeless. I'm genderfluid and fluctuate pronouns a lot, but he/him and they/them are usually safe. I am the host of the Unicorn System. I usually go by Spencer, Spence, or our digital username Fuun. I'm good with pretty much anything. My favorite aesthetic is cryptidcore. My favorite color is green. My favorite drink is matcha lattes and my favorite food is ramen. I'm a Hellenistic polytheist.

Then there's Reid, who is a Criminal Minds fictive. He's got a medium length mop of curly hair and is slumped and shorter in stature. He doesn't really talk or communicate much and tends to 'mask' or hide as others. Despite this, he has the cohost role. He also doesn't like being touched often and has a rough relationship with Christianity. I don't know much about him other than this.

Our dynamic is that of person and person's shadow, just a little flipped. While in most circumstances the shadow would be the mute and hidden one, it's actually flipped. I'm more of a shadowy mask of him. We look vaguely similar - my default appearance in the inner world is his silhouette. If he's nearby, I'm also probably close, and vice versa. I don't know why, but that's how it is.

We're the head devs of the dev 'team' for Cocoon. If you have any questions about the app, us, or the system, then feel free to ask them! We'll just.. not answer if they make us uncomfortable. Thank you all for reading! We'll be posting more alter intros later! Bye!

(Late) "Saturday" Update 3/29/26

Sorry y'all, I meant to post this yesterday, but I was so sick I slept for the entire day! I didn't do much this past week besides work on my HTML lessons, but I'm almost done with them all! I'm finishing up my semantic HTML at the moment. I wanted to give an updated timeline of how things are going to go - I can't be exact or anything, but this may take longer than I expected. I'm not too surprised considering how ambitious I am, but I overestimated how much I could invest into this time wise each day - however, that doesn't mean I'm quitting! It just means that our goals might not be met as smoothly as hoped. On a different note, we'll be doing alter intros on our main blog (the Unicorn System blog) starting today! Saturday Check-In 3/21/26

We've been mostly sick or working this past week - which is why we didn't post on Monday - HOWEVER we still got some stuff done. We took a quick break from wireframes to use Codecademy (a great resource! has lots of free courses) to learn how to code in different languages. Another thing I wanted to cover - in light of a few things that other app devs are doing, we want to clarify our stances on certain things.

We will NOT be using AI to develop our app or make any assets. Everything will be made by a person. We will NOT tolerate syscourse over our app. EVERYONE should be able to use our app, no if ands or buts. We will be launching a discord server soon where these two rules - along with a few others - apply. We will NOT compromise our morals and integrity, no matter where our platform takes us. If this is an issue with you, then you can choose on your own whether or not to use our app. We'll be making a separate post at some point announcing the discord server and posting the invite. I haven't actually, which is silly considering I'm making this a discord compatible project lol. I'll definitely be giving it a shot sometime in the near future though! Meet The Devs & Saturday Check In

Hey! This post will be a 'meet the alter' style post but for specifically the dev team for Cocoon. There will also be a new thing I'm starting called a Saturday Check In, which will be explained later in the post. While most of our alters are partaking in the development of the app, there are a core handful that are crucial in the development. I'll go first! My name is Spencer and I'm the host :3 I'm a formless shadow and am mostly front locked. I will be here as the 'supervisor' or 'head dev' for the most part. Then there's Simon, our Iron Lung fictive. We watched the movie and then within 24 hours we had a horrible headache and a new friend. He's great though! He's mostly here for his input. There's Rick, who is a Rick Sanchez and Johnny Silverhand fictive. Our resident anti-capitalist is actually the one who coined the name 'Cocoon' and tends to be our idea man and work horse. He'll likely be doing the bulk of the coding and difficult work. We have Jason, our Redhood fictive. He says he's here for motivation and emotional support but with him and Jaxx helping, I sense shenanigans. Jaxx is our resident jokester and Teto fan. He's looking mostly at accessibility features like text to speech. There might be more, but for now these are the core five. Another thing I wanted to start was a Saturday check-in. This will be where I explain what I've done this past week (Mon-Sat) and my plan for the upcoming week. My Monday posts will be more about the app or my system. This past week, I've been working almost entirely on wireframes and checking out kotlin and its common frameworks. I'll attach a sneak peak of the dashboard wireframe to this post for vibes. Cocoon Goals Overview

Apologies, but this is gonna be a long and dense post. We wanted to go over the goals and plans we have for our web app, both for community clarity and clarity for ourselves. We also wanted to set realistic expectations for everyone. This app will not be built overnight. We do not plan on entering even beta until, at the absolute earliest, May 2026, mostly due to the fact that we can only work on this after work and on weekends between other things. We are also brand new to coding and web development. This is going to be hard work full of lots of setbacks and steps backwards, but we will make it to our goals. First, we'll break down our goals for features. Then we'll outline our rough timeline. For frame of reference in the plan, we're working on wireframes and choosing all the structural things such as a system design, architecture, and tech stack. Planned Features & Functions: System Management - System account with alter/member/headmate profiles, custom fields for info, message history, notes, and a folder/tag system for organization and subsystems Fronting Management - fronting log, front history, and custom front statuses OFFLINE Internal Chat System - channels, categories, polls, and permissions Customization - Dark/Light Mode, adjustable font sizes, alter banners/pfps, built in text code capabilities, journal customization Discord Integration - discord login, custom made discord bot to use in your servers for proxying and management Journaling Systems - options to create as many journals as needed, password protected journals Resources - access to plenty of free resources specially curated by yours truly Timeline: March - Wireframes, system architecture, learning kotlin, building the base website April - Dashboard, system management features May - Fronting management features (potential alpha drop) June - Journaling features, customization features July - Discord Integration (potential beta drop) August - Resources, Chat System I will be taking the hybrid approach of building the app features by building them each one at a time instead of focusing on backend first or frontend first.
