Assessment 3: Experiments in Chance
Throughout the semester we have undergone many tasks experimenting with our art making practice. With this in mind, the ‘lightbulb’ moments for me, and the pieces that stood out to me the most, were those that incorporated the element of chance. I have found that when the artist leaves at least part of the art making to chance something interesting happens. It can be a small amount of the aesthetic or the entire piece but, with chance, the artwork takes on a spontaneity that cannot be replicated on purpose. One of the aspects of chance I like the most is their inability to be replicated- when one tries it looses the surprise of the original.
All of the following ten pieces of documentation explore the method of chance in its varying forms. Some pieces combine chance with other explored ideas such as transient art, art made over time and destructive art.
I would asked that these works be viewed in the order they are presented (i.e top of the first page, to bottom of the last page) as there are elements of evolution within the curation of the images.
