in a mainline Protestant reading of the Book of Revelation, you are probably supposed to reject both the harlot and the beast... but then there is that confusing verse in there about God spitting out the 'lukewarm' (Rev 3:16)....

(edit: and this is not even getting into the many OT verses where the 'harlot' --or unfaithful bride-- is washed and redeemed.)
