I know this has probably been talked to death on here, but I keep thinking about muzzles in Zootopia, because… the implications?? Like, why do they even exist in that world? You don’t accidentally invent a device whose sole purpose is to physically suppress one particular group of society, if you know what I mean.
Does it suggest there was once a conflict between herbivores and carnivores? A kind of war, where prey animals developed tools like muzzles as a means of defence/control/imprisonment? And if that’s the case, were muzzles widely used at some point? Were there other inventions too?
Or is it about timeline? As in, maybe herbivores became “civilised” earlier, created social structures, and then had to figure out how to coexist with carnivores from a position of perceived superiority. Which, well. Opens a whole different set of implications.
And then there’s the social angle. The movie frames muzzles as a symbol of anti-predator stigma, but the mere presence of muzzles kinda implies that they are manufactured objects, which in turn implies normalisation at some level. Like, someone designed them. Someone approved their production. Someone is buying them, still. Because, like, how were those kids who attacked Nick able to get one? Did they take it from their parents? Are muzzles commercially available in Zootopia?
I have so many questions
glorious evolution
that which inspired us to our greatest good is also the cause of our greatest evil.
Zootopia 1: Wow, you assume that predators are bad cos they once ate your ancestors like 800 million years ago? Ever heard of prejudice?? Maybe try NOT judging animals by the sole fact they have bigger teeth and giant claws, we live in a society
Zootopia 2: Anyway, the villains are predators. The literal nightmare species with red eyes. Their job titles include “Thing That Looms Menacingly”. Everyone around them is under constant threat of becoming lunch. Also, did we mention they have razor-like CLAWS? Better watch out for those CLAWS
