If i may vent about a Situation for a minute

So someone in a discord server shared an article about lgbtq education being expanded in Japan, which, hooray good news

However I noticed the image in the embed was of a white person among cherry blossoms

And so I said "why is the image of a white person?"

To which someone rather cheekily told me to read the article and that it was weird to "judge someone by their appearance like that"

I read the article. This white person does feature in the article but it is on the whole about lgbtq education in Japan as the title says. And all of the other images in the article feature visibly Japanese people

By that point the conversation had turned to you don't have to be visibly Japanese to live in Japan so i just stopped engaging

Like I'm just tired

had a beautiful moment of connection. my 14 month old neice was pointing at my beverage and looking like she expected something, so I said “yes baby, this is mugs zero sugar root beer. very good, baby.” but she just jabbed her finger more insistently, and went ‘woof wooof woof’. and this is when I looked closer and saw the mug’s rootbeer bulldog. I almost teared up. I said, “yes baby, that’s the mug’s rootbeer bulldog. woof woof woof. I love you small baby.”

things I’ve noticed in the UK:

- when you’re jay walking, cars will actively accelerate bc the drivers want to kill you for breaking the rules

- servers in restaurants act very scared and apologetic, so maybe people aren’t nice to them here??? or I could be terrifying

- it’s really cute when little kids have British accents, but I’m unmoved by adults with accents

- extremely good gluten free options. this country is like 20 years ahead of Canada in that regard

- people will give random insignificant buildings names with little plaques. and then that’s the name that shows up on the map. like even a smaller than average family home, you can name it like it’s a dog

- lots of brick and stone buildings. looks cute and charming until you enter one and there’s no air conditioning

- people are still wearing jaguar print. I like this. don’t let it die
