You know how I’ve been writing this WIP for 5 years, and whenever people demand I give it a happy ending, I’ve said “I’ve been planning this ending from the beginning, I’m not pandering, if you want a perfect ending read a fluff fic, blah blah blah”?
Well i still think what I’ve had planned is good and it works for the characters, and makes sense with the story I’m telling but... God, I’m really becoming attached to this version of Rick and Kate now that I’m finally writing them togther. i want to give them a cheesy schmaltzy ending that doesn’t make sense. I probably won’t. I’ll probably stick to the plan. But God I love these two so much why can’t I just let them be happy?
what do you think about Take Two?
Kay, so I finally watched both episodes that have aired and I have mixed feelings. I’ll get it out of the way and say that I thought there were a lot of similarities to Castle (dialogue, situations, etc), especially in the pilot. It felt like a combination of FFYG and Nikki Heat. Only AU. And for what it’s worth, I’d absolutely be cool with affectionate nods to Castle as a show or even hints that it takes place in the same universe - Castle books on shelves, a NY Times on a desk with a story about Caskett or about Captain-turned-Candidate Beckett, maybe even Sam knowing Meredith or Natalie Rhodes from a movie they did together and name dropping, etc - but I don’t want it to feel like a retread with tweaks and the pilot kinda did.
But that said, the second ep sat somewhat better with me and it was cute and both eps made me chuckle in places - Eddie’s non-girlfriend’s total amusement really amused me, no lie. So though I’m not totally sold on it, I’m also not giving up on it yet. I think the show has potential to be something fun and awesome if it develops outside of the “this worked for us before” bubble. I’ll try to catch it as it airs this week and get into a rhythm of watching it live to see if maybe the energy and the excitement of being part of the airing helps to get my own energy up.
Take Two has potential, but I’m really hoping Andrew and Terri get a little less heavy handed with the #Castle callbacks.
The show needs to find it’s own voice.

Response to anon review for chapter 28 of Conundrum
“ Very altruistic of Josh and Kate, but I do not think one can practice law in a country where they are not liscence “ Did you read chapter 27? Kate will be assisting an in-house lawyer and using her legal experience to help with refugee applications, protection orders, etc. she won’t be officially practicing law. Again, this was covered in Chapter 27.
Kate tells her parents her news and bids farewell to Rick... for now.
Response to review for Chapter 27 of Conundrum
"Please for the love of god don't tell me Kate is going to Argentina. This is so beyond stupid, how the hell is she suppose to find herself as a single person by leaving the country with Josh for a year? Also this makes Josh seem like a jerk and that he has no respect for Kate's need for space. How the hell is Kate suppose to make a well thought out decision when she is in one country with one guy for a whole year and the other guy is in a whole other country so she never ever sees him. There are million other ways she could make a difference as a lawyer, this just seems way way way too extreme. This story has been going on way too long, it is starting to drag, and now it just seems like you are adding twists simply for the sake of drama and not because it actually moves the story along. Wrap it up already and stop shoving Josh down our throats." - Anon, Chapter 27 Do you think that Josh and Kate are going to be directly working together? He's medical, she's law, they'll probably have little time to do anything other than work . Josh saw an opportunity he thought Kate would appreciate, and he gave her that opportunity. She's the one that took it. He didn't force her. "How the hell is Kate suppose to make a well thought out decision when she is in one country with one guy for a whole year and the other guy is in a whole other country so she never ever sees him" - That question will be answered in the next chapter, which has already been written and beta read. Look, I'll be honest with you: I needed to do a time-jump in order to get to the next plot point but I couldn't have Kate and Rick in the same city for a year without their relationship progressing, it would have felt inorganic, and I can't have their relationship be too far progressed for what I have planned.
"I'll never be her, you know." He looked slightly taken aback. "You mean, Beckett?" "AKA Superwoman." "Nobody's asking you to be her." "No, but I'm not-not her either." "Ok. Sure. What?" "Technically, I'm still her, and she is me." "As you are me and we are all together," Rick quipped. "I'll never make the kind of difference that she has. I'll never save the world. But I can't completely separate myself from her. I lived her life and as weird and foreign as it was it… it didn't feel completely wrong." "Detective Beckett was making a difference in her own way. You can still save the world, too, in your own way."
' "Josh, I don't expect you to understand what's going on with me. I barely understand it myself. But I need..." "Time, you said." "But I… I'm not ready to give up. I love you. It just… I didn't plan to..." "Have feelings for the writer?" There was no use denying it.'
Hello, fanfic blog. I havent’ posted here for a while. What’s new?
"A part of me always belonged to Castle, just like a part of Castle always belonged to me."
For anyone who still cares, the next chapter of Conundrum is coming along nicely. I know a lot of fans aren’t reading Castle fanfic anymore, and it’s been a long wait, but for anyone interested, I’m very happy where it’s going. The words are flowing really well and even though I am fairly busy I’ve found more time to invest in fic recently so if you stick with it a little longer, hopefully you won’t be disappointed.
Am I the only one getting repeatedly asked for fic requests from the same person? When I politely tell him I'm really busy and behind on several projects, recommending he put a prompt on castlefanficprompts, he starts to call me names. Then a few months later he comes back with the same requests?
Anyone else experiencing this problem? I’m receiving alerts for reviews in my email but they’re not showing u on the site, and others have reported this as well (see link).
“I didn’t come here for a philosophical debate, Rick, I came here to find answers.” “And what if you never find the answers, Beckett?” “I have to.” “Why?” “Because that’s… that’s what we do. We get the answers, we find the missing piece to the story for it to all make sense, and we solve the case.” “We?” She shifted uncomfortably in her seat.“Castle and I.” “I’m not him, Beckett.” It probably didn’t bode well that he had to keep reminding her. “I know,” she said quietly. “Do you?”
So, I’ve been getting shit for tagging posts about Castle Fanfiction with “castle fanfiction” and “Castle fanfics”. Apparently, those tags are only for actual fic updates. Funny, I don’t remember that being in the Tumblr Terms of Service. Regardless, this is a new chapter of Conundrum, which is a Castle fanfic. Happy? ;)
Just read the post you reblogged from enchilada. I don’t agree with your position but i couldn’t help but laugh at the tags, “scrouging it up” lo
Lol well a fan-run season nine is kind of like christmas for the fandom right? So just call me Ebeneezer ;) also i think her name is @encantadaa not enchilada lol.
Are you ok?
Yes much better thank you :)
Castle is amazing! Glad you are doing this. If I knew you were going to do this I'd ask to join in the writing process. I'm a published author as well as I wrote my own fanfiction. I look forward to reading what you guys bring
When I started this, my aim was just for it to be a small collab with friends. That’s why I never put out an all-call for authors– I never intended for it to be anything big or official. I still can’t believe what it’s turned in to.
Had I put out an all-call for authors, though, we would have probably ended up with 386 authors for 22 episodes. Because you know everyone would have wanted to be included, and then we’d have way too many cooks in the kitchen and no audience. Things would have been insane, and it would have been too big to control. It would have turned dysfunctional very quickly, and nothing would have ended up happening.
Looking back, I do wish I’d done things differently, only because I had no idea how big this would get. But there was no way to include every author in the fandom. There is so much incredible talent out there, though. So if you want to create your own season 9, go for it! This is nothing official. It’s just the collab that I decided to do with some friends, that happens to have a big audience.
This is positive. I only just saw this today. I still have my concerns but it’s nice to have a bit more of an explanation.
If they had run it as a competition where everyone who enters has to submit short summaries of an episode and the best 22 got picked , and from there they worked collaboratively to write the episodes with season arcs, they would not have to use 300 writers. That was not what I was suggesting, merely that more people should have had an opportunity to be a writer.
But I get now that it wasn’t originally intended to be so big. Somewhere along the line though they must have known, with all the promotion and big names attached, and the way that it’s being designed, that it would have a considerable audience. So I’m not letting them off that easy.
I will continue to watch with a respectfully critical eye.
I’m curious as to how you think a competition would have made things better, because I can only see ways that would have made it significantly worse. First of all, many people, including at least half (probably more) of the authors that are currently in the project, would not have bothered to enter, either due to lack of self-esteem or not wanting to make themselves appear more important than they are. And secondly, having a competition would have only increased the feeling of fandom divide and fandom “cliques” that so many perceive. A competition to see who’s the best? I don’t see how that would benefit anyone.
A competition would have drawn in the people who only wanted in on season 9 for themselves– to make a name for themselves; to gain fandom fame– than the people who wanted to write to have fun and to give something wonderful to the fans. And personally, I’d rather read stuff from the latter group– people who are just in it for fun– than the former.
Like I said in my answer above, I genuinely had no idea how big this would get when I started it. I was only expecting a fun collab with friends that would gain maybe 100 readers. I’m not a well-known author, by any means, and I figured that this idea would get about as many readers as anything else I do. I never could have imagined it having as many people excited for it as it does. You can say all you want that I must have known how big it would get, but I promise you, I did not. I still think of this as my little project, not the “official” season 9, and no matter how big it gets, I’ll never think of it as anything official.
So I’m taking a bit of a break from tumblr because things are getting a bit crazy for me at the moment but I got this notification on my phone and I want to say thank you for responding. So we can agree to disagree on how this project could have been more inclusive, it was merely an example of a suggestion, one I could have articulated a bit better but oh well.
I think you misunderstood me. I accept that when you originally had the idea you didn’ t think it would be big. What I am saying is that in the planning process of this project, and the way it is designed, it is designed in a way that is going to get a lot of attention. Maybe not as much attention as it ended up getting. But it is designed to be promoted and spread to as many as possible. It is designed to have a similar uploading schedule to a full season. It has a lot of promotion behind it. You didn’t ask a lot of people who were unknown, you asked, for the most part, popular writers, and other big names in the fandom are involved. And at that point in the planning stages a reasonably intelligent person such as yourself would know and be aware that this is going to get some attention, certainly more than 100 readers.
You say you want to give something wonderful to the fans. Why would you say that if you don’t expect or hope for a considerable amount of fans to read it? Do you see what I’m saying? That just doesn’t make sense.
Your tag “this is all I’m going to say on the matter” just goes back to the dismissiveness I talked about. Not wanting to have an open discussion, not possibly wanting to look for solutions by promoting other people’s stories – “nope, you’re wrong, end of discussion”.
Please don’t get me wrong. I have no problem with this project as a concept. I think it’s a great idea and I think you are amazing for all the passion and love and work you have put into it. This is exactly the kind of thing the fandom needs right now. I just had a few issues with how it was done, and I was honest about it.
I have not been nasty or hateful. I haven’t called anyone names or threatened anybody. In fact, I have gone out of my way to say I think you are mostly lovely people who do not intend to make things harder for lesser-known writers who aren’t in your club (and even if you are a lesser known writer the fact that you have a close relationship to the point that you would be comfortable enough to ask them to do this and they would say yes puts you in that club by association).
Again, I don’t think this is intentional which is why I’m pointing it out. In part, you have addressed some of this by asking for contributions and the explanation I reblogged, both of which I praised as positive things. I still find some of your responses quite dismissive and you haven’t done much to completely convince me this project won’t have a negative effect on other people’s stories set after season 8
I am not the gatekeeper of the fandom, just an overly-analytical, observant fanfiction author. Noone has to listen to me.
