I hate it when people ask me what genre of music i listen to because i genuinely have no clue. It's called Music I Like genre. The best genre out there
I was doing a rewatch of Mouthwashing in chrono order and noticed just how much Swansea discusses the danger the vent poses as the safety of the crew is his job and he makes this very clear.
The reason I bring this up is because Jimmy is present every time we see Swansea discuss it. Every single time.
The first time we see it brought up, Swansea is telling Daisuke that the vent is off limits and it's fully collapsed inside. BEFORE the crash.
Jimmy can be seen watching this conversation from the door.
After the crash, Swansea tells Jimmy that Anya almost messed up her leg due to the vent. Again, this was BEFORE the crash which heavily implies it's in a much worse state now.
This line is clearly about Anya...on the surface level but upon revisiting the game, it starts to read more like a nod to how Jimmy doesn't truly listen to other people. His POV is all about seeing the worst in people.
Jimmy doesn't respect Anya so he doesn't listen to what she has to say about the mouthwash not being a proper disinfectant.
He doesn't respect Swansea so he ignores everything he says about the vent and wastes the only disinfectant on the entire ship to make Swansea pass out so he can get into Utility to access the vent.
Before they enter Utility, Daisuke says that Swansea knows what he's talking about and that maybe they should listen to him. But Jimmy doesn't agree because he doesn't respect Daisuke either.
Swansea said from the very beginning of the story (in chronological order) that the vent was already "fully fuckin' collapsed inside" BEFORE the crash happened. Did Jimmy listen? Nope.
Now Daisuke is bleeding out on the floor while at risk of infection and Jimmy has wasted the only possible disinfectant to get into a vent that was strongly advised to stay away from by a guy whose job involves keeping everyone safe.
And what does Jimmy do? He grabs the mouthwash. The one that Anya said could NOT be used as a disinfectant as she would know that sugar mixed with blood can cause inflammation and make wounds heal slower than they should.
