*** This post is more up to date than my actual page links as I’m usually on tablet which doesn’t let me edit the actual blog properly. Please at least read this post.

-I’m Samantha! (Or Samui). 34. In Australia, keep that in mind if I seem slow to respond, I might be asleep!

-varied/slow activity. I will reply, but sometimes it can be within a day or so and other times it can potentially takes weeks depending on muse and my varied ooc schedule.

-Gonna be honest, i’ve not actually seen past the end of season 2 of Agents of Shield, or actually watched beyond Age of Ultron. That being said, I’ve got a fairly good idea of events from summaries/short clips. (Slowly catching up on some mcu)

-I write canon divergent from post Winter Soldier/season 2 (see bio for where). Happy to work out other verses to suit other’s characters though!

-I am open to shipping, Skyeward or otherwise, especially if our characters have chemistry! This includes ocs!

-Happy for people to send in ask memes, even if we already have something going, or if we’ve never interacted before.

-Post Maveth au has Ward presumed dead from the explosion that killed Hive. Yet there are rumours he’s been seen walking around. Those who have spoke to him can’t get clear answers on why that is and Ward himself claims he doesn’t know, besides having been under supervision of Hydra scientists since his supposed death. He was involved with the Hydra agent Elijah Bancroft in holding a SHIELD agent (Ray Hartell) hostage in Canada and is trying to work out why he’s alive and why he still seems to have some of Hive’s abilities. (Post Maveth au, which is the default verse)

-With one canon divergent verse, I work mostly off the idea that Ward was not loyal to Hydra, just to Garrett. He was manipulated by Garrett and had no real ties to the organisation otherwise. He deeply regrets his actions against the team he came to care for. In this verse he is back at SHIELD, under heavy supervision as he works to prove his loyalty. (Ward is SHIELD au)

**I am also happy to write canon based plots during Ward's time after escaping custody AND during his time as Head of Hydra!

Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. (3ª Temp.)

Carlyle sends a random picture to Ward of her in a hum dinger of a dress, smiling and having a grand time. They're outside, on the steps of a giant stone building.

There is a moment of confusion where Grant has to double check who sent the image before it sinks in that this is Carlyle.

[text: pilot] What's the occasion? Causing trouble?

Hopefully they picked it up as the intended friendly teasing.

He was glad at least they hadn't called.

[text: pilot] It looks nice.

Yeah, that was an understatement.

At face value life seems simple, it’s breathing in and out, it’s little more than that but for those dealing with trauma, for those stuck in an endless loop of torment, every breath is a struggle, ever second that ticks by on the clock is another second of anguish. For the most part Mason covers his reality well, he comes across as the hardened agent who has no time for emotion, but beneath the mask he’s so expertly constructed is a man who’s day can turn with no notice.

It’s early still but he’s been up for countless hours, had woken with a start, nightmares had ravished the few hours he’d managed, sweat had covered every inch of him when he woke breathless and afraid. And even now, hours later, even now when his suit make him appear composed he’s hanging by a thread. He’d closed his office door and had the privacy windows activated since he’d gotten in, but he couldn’t function, couldn’t shake this and given that Buck was a touch under the weather he didn’t have his usual bridge to stability.

The bight light of his office seemingly fade as he attempts to fights the darkness that wishes to drag him down, the sounds of his torment, the blackness of the space, the smells seem to fill his senses as he slowly is pulled into the past. Not now, get out of my head, stop. Please stop. Pl..please. The words go unspoken, silent pleas to his own subconscious.

He doesn’t notice when they come in, doesn’t realize how long they’ve been standing there, doesn’t offer the usual glance over, no greeting, no gesture to sit, not this time.

It didn't take him long to realise what was happening. Grant had been sent by his supervisor to drop off some paperwork for a mission report, but paused in the doorway to silently observe. He knew the expression (or lack of), the posture…

He frowned, deciding whether it was worth calling someone (but who?), or just leaving. He was certainly tempted to just leave and come back later, for his own sake, but no. He was trying not to just revert back to the 'only if it benefits me' type behaviours he'd had drilled into him.

You're SHIELD. He's gone. You're trying to be better than he made you you let him make you.

Eventually, Grant cleared his throat to announce his presence.

"Hey, uh… I've got these files-" he started before letting out a small sigh. He couldn't just ignore it. "Are you… alright?"

Ward was glad he recognised the weapon for what it was. It may have been modified since the prototype to be a little more subtle, but he still recognised Fitz’s design when he saw it.

This was exactly why he’d faked how long it had taken him to recover from the initial Icer round that got him into the cell in the first place; these idiots had no idea just how quickly it would wear off him thanks to the… whatever it was making him not himself. They thought they were relatively safe as long as the soldier was ready to Ice him at the first sign of trouble.

And now, as Grant had hoped they eventually would, a rookie was in charge of the unlocked computer.

Time to make a move.

Luckily they had been stupid enough to take him to a base he knew very well, so the message was typed and sent quickly. He just hoped Carlyle was able to work out what the coordinates pointed to and they’d find somewhere a bit further out to wait. Or hopefully at least he would be outside quick enough that he would have time to warn them.

“Whoa, shit. Sir he-” the rookie started. “Shitshitshit-”

“What?” Trudeau snapped impatiently.

“I think he just gave away our-”

In the brief moment that both the soldier and agent Trudeau turned to look at the agent at the computer to question him, Ward sprang into action.

He stayed low and quickly used a leg takedown on the soldier, smirking as the rough movement caused a loud crunching sound as the soldier’s helmet struck the cellroom floor. Ward kept moving and yanked the Icer out of the soldier’s hands, then turned and shot Trudeau with it.

“Ah, fuck!” Ward cursed as something grazed his elbow.

The rookie had panicked and ran to help instead of following protocol and tried to shoot Ward with his own Icer pistol, so Ward turned and flung the soldier’s rifle version at him, knocking out the rookie with his deadly accuracy before slumping against the wall himself.

He woke up a few minutes later to everyone else still unconcious.

Grinning, Ward used the wall to pull himself to his feet, then made sure he still had his phone before calmly stepping over the rookie’s unconcious form in the doorway and walking out to the computer.

He spent a few minutes searching some of the files on the computer, then smashed the transparent lockbox with the rest of his belongings in it.

He checked the time on his phone before shrugging and calling Carlyle.

“Hey.”

Just about to trade the cell phone for another cosmo, Carlyle heard the ding of a new message. It took them a few moments to go from ‘what do you need-protection? to OH SHIELD!’ “Shit. God da-Ward. Jesus.” How were they even supposed to answer that? It all made sense now. Or at least the 'where and with whom’ part. Carly continued to swear under their breath, sitting up on the lounge chair and nodding as someone set a fresh drink on the little table. They grabbed it, downed half of it, and continued to madly tap at their phone.

Only for it to ring before she could send the text in reply.

’hey’ ? Carlyle stood and started pacing at the edge of the pool (probably not a smart thing to do, but they were annoyed.)

“Hey…” they returned. “How’ve you been?” Carlyle had a feeling that Ward would be in no mood for their feigned casualness, but they honestly couldn’t help it. Force a casual conversation when the call was most likely tense-they were playing with fire and today they just didn’t give a fuck.

They were already sliding on clothes as smoothly as they could holding the phone to their ear as they did so.

“Miguel-Can I take a raincheck, you beautiful man you?” They asked, running a finger alongside the man’s jaw as he watched her pull a shirt on. “Business has reared it’s head and I’ve got to take off.”

The young man grinned and bent to pick up a pair of sandals. “That’s cool…sure. Just-uh-let me know when you’re back in town.” “You’re a peach,” Carlyle said and turned to make sure they weren’t forgetting anything important.

“Listen…how important is it that I’m there in under two hours?”

They shuffled into the shoes and stepped into the building from the deck.

Ward rolled his eyes at the voice on the other end of the phonecall, keeping the device close to his ear. He was at least sensible enough to not put it on speaker and give SHIELD later access to Caryle's voice to keep on record.

"Oh, I've been busy," he replied casually, almost cheerful, rather than the grumpy, detached tones he usually spoke to Carlyle with. "Nearly killed a SHIELD agent, got arrested. Probably just seriously injured a couple more, but hey, some quality computer access time."

He carefully balanced his phone for a moment between his jaw and shoulder, freeing up his hands to check and reload his reclaimed handgun. Just in case.

"As for the time? It's more for your benefit that it's at least two hours. Gives me time to make sure there's a clear landing area nearby."

He had that energy of someone eager to learn and please their superiors as he moved around the room fetching things for the elder agent. Clearly too new to have been through any real trouble yet.

Grant had studied them for a bit, making sure he’d remember their faces, as he did to all those tasking with a supervision shift, just in case. This younger agent would be an easy one to recognise with his ginger hair.

“Hey, uh… sir- agent Trudeau?”

The elder agent sighed and looked up from his computer.

“What is it Jordan?”

“The stuff in this lockbox… it’s his, right?”

Agent Trudeau turned his chair to properly look. “Yeah, why?”

“Well the phone…” Jordan muttered, pointing at the transparent case (all the better to see if anyone had removed or tampeerd with any).

Trudeau rolled his eyes and came over to look. 1 new message. That certainly hadn’t been there when they had started their shift. He stared at for a moment, thinking. Eventually he moved further out of Ward’s earshot to make a call to some other agent.

He must have been asking what to do, because he came back with a key card to open the lockbox and pick up the phone. He waited though, until an agent (soldier more like) entered the room, armed, to accompany Trudeau as he carded himself into Ward’s cell.

The soldier kept an icer pointed at Ward as the two came in, even though Ward was simply sitting on the floor.

He wasn’t stupid. As soon as he saw the agent hold out his phone and the ginger one try to quietly slip into the computer chair, he knew what they were hoping for.

Ward did not call; texting back instead.

normally he’d never use ‘text speak’ and he hoped Carlyle would pick up on it.

Carlyle had set the phone back down, disappointed that there had been no reply. How could they spend too much energy on it though, the heat of the sun on their back made them drowsy. The phone finally buzzed, rousing them from their nap.

Okay. Someone was in a mood.

They read the conversation over again, brows knit together. They waited a few moments before putting the phone back down again.

Something wasn’t adding up. Carly picked the phone back up and erased the text.

[text:] Ok fine. do you need a wingman?

They hadn’t talked about code words, distress words (or other safe words) or what have you. But why would Ward write like that? Maybe he’d catch Carly’s hint asking if he was in trouble. Not that they had any clue where he was or with who.

Carlyle reached down and checked their phone. They hadn’t heard from him in a while. And while they weren’t his keeper, Ward had mentioned catching back up after his trip. That was a while ago.

Curiosity, flecked with concern finally wore through Carly’s resolve and they started a new message to the burner he’d texted from last.

[unsent text:] Hey Mister. need a lift?

They erased the message. Was that the kind of image you want to send the man who would be the next leader of HYDRA? The one that you wanted to get to know better? And work with?

Pffttt. Normally Carly wouldn’t care. Normally, they’d not give a second thought what the person they was working for thought. OR whether they dropped off the face of the earth.

So, then why did it make them frown when there were no messages on their phone?

[text:] Got a faster plane. Want to see how fast we can make it to Port. St, LaBella? And back?

Compared to previous experiences, Ward didn’t feel like he was out for as long as usual and as he woke up, he certainly didn’t feel as groggy and nauseous as he knew the icer rounds could make someone. Of course he acted out that he was affected as normal though to avoid raising suspicion. And (unlike the agent he’d injured), Ward could feel an uncomfortable tingling sensation as his elbow gradually repaired itself.

Annoyingly, they’d taken the knife and done the bare minimum to patch him up (as in simply pushed aside his jacket and shirt to stick some gauze over the wound and left it at that). He could feel that fixing too. At least both injuries were still tender so he wouldn’t have to pretend that much that he was still hurt.

Typical SHIELD. Being ‘nice’ by pretending to help with an injury, but only half doing it out of spite. And yet Ward was sure they would try and question him as if he didn’t understand that the half assed medical attention (if he was simply his old self) could easily have allowed him to keep bleeding or end up with infection. Oh well; something for him to play off when they tried.

When it came time to move him from the helicopter to wherever they’d decided to keep him, Ward made it difficult and went along with their assumption that he would barely be conscious at this point, if at all, and played ‘dead’, forcing the soldiers to transport him as if he was unconscious.

The room they put him in looked very much like the cell Coulson had him locked in after his original betrayal, where he had then been recovering at the normal, painfully slow pace from the injuries agent May had left him with. Damn. He hadn’t been in a good place then and wasn’t too pleased about the reminder.
