Cleaned up my records. I had 70+ records that needed to be alphabetized and fit in. The top left cubby had books in it so I had to move every record over one shelf. That last spot will hold my soundtracks and have room for new arrivals. Seeing as my other shelves and this one are full though I only have room for about 20 more records before I’m full 😢😢

Madrid Skateboard in Stranger Things 2

[Squealing] So you may know I bought a vintage skateboard 2 months ago and started learning to skate. The board I have is like the epitamy of the 80s. Coloured wheels, massive board, plastic ribs and copers. I'm watching stranger things with my gf and they showed madmax's skateboard AND IT'S THE MADRID EXPLOSION. It's this board no one knows about that I'm super invested in and it's on the biggest show this season. I'm so excited and it feels so silly.

Fixing an NES game

So, atleast 6 years ago I took my buddy to a garage sale really early in the morning and we found several nes and snes games and a couple consoles. This was by far our best find at the time and he didn't have an nes so A+ for luck. However this one gem stuck out because it was one we were most looking forward to but the only one that didn't work. METROID. The screen would have very random symbols in place of textures if we could ever get anything to show up. And once in a blue moon everything would be normal and we could play.

Skip ahead to 2017 and I am much more familiar with how computers work and I've disassembled many electronic devices and fixed them including arcade games and stereo equipment. I just randomly remember my buddies one broken game and I'm like dude let me open it up while you're away at camp. And he did!

Step 1 was taking the case apart and I just got super lucky here. The original release date games for the nes are called 5 screw versions because they have 5 Phillips screws instead of 3 nintendo security screws. (If you heat up a pen or tooth brush to melt the plastic and jam it in the hole and let it cool it'll take the shape of a security bit so you can still open up your 3 screw games)

Step 2 was getting to look at the goodies inside.

I had suspected a bad chip. Corruption to a rom chip can skew character data and bad ram will spit out garbage too. But I was plesently surprised to find a very easy fix ahead.

See that one pin sticking through a copper hole? There's almost zero solder on that pin so it's not making a good connection. Easy!

Step 3 solder!

And guess what?!

It worked first try! I hope friendo is happy with it. I even glued down the label for him. (I noticed on the story screen they call it zebeth instead of zebes. In Japanese when writing foreign words they use a character 'su' for the 'th' sound because 'th' isn't used in Japanese. So it's not a typo, just a misunderstanding.)

I recreated the first area up to the first dungeon of the original Legend of Zelda for a one off d&d campaign to help get some gamers into it. I made an actual grid paper map but we can’t all get together regularly so I made this one for roll20. Fits a 34x53 perfectly.

Octobit Day 03 | Predator/Prey

Been using the NES colour palette and it’s a huge bummer not really being able to shade anything so i’m going to start using the full colour spectrum so i can do some better arts. Probably when I’m caught up to the actual octobit day.
