The question cut through the haze that sleep had left for Zoey.
“Hmm?” She hummed as she sat up and opened her eyes, watching Mira inspect the wounds that were no longer there on her body, replaced by scars.
“You don't know Healing Light yet. Hell I've barely mastered it, so I know you didn't heal me,” Mira said. Zoey faltered for just a second.
“You're not going to believe me Mira,” she said.
“Try me,” Mira responded. So, Zoey took a deep breath.
Meanwhile in the Domain of the Gods…
Rumi was watching the two warlocks who had taken refuge in her temple. Even seeing them there brought a sense of warmth that she hadn't felt in a few thousand years. The last of her worshippers died off in a tragedy over 2 thousand years ago, something that the other gods never failed to remind her of.
“Well well well what have we here?” Came a voice from behind Rumi. “Two weary travellers. And look at where they are. In that cursed temple where the last vestiges of your congregation perished. How about that little Demigod?” Rumi looked up to the source of the voice. Jinu. The God of Strategy. Of course. Rumi just rolled her eyes.
“They found their own way there Jinu. The tall one was hurt and the small one started praying at my effigy, what else was I supposed to do?” She asked.
“Uh. Ignore them? They are just mortals and look what happened the last time you had any followers, Demigod. Last I checked they all turned on you and each other and it ended in a massacre in your own temple,” he said.
“That was centuries ago Jinu. Its only two mortals and I did not influence them to pray at all. That was an act of desperation and it probably won't happen again anyway,” she said. Her voice was almost sad. It had been nice to be prayed to. To be needed again. But she refused to allow her hopes to get up again. She had been let down too many times.
“Uhuh sure. You keep telling yourself that and tell me how that turns out for you,” Jinu said before turning and walking away.
Rumi huffed a little before turning her attention back to the mortals in her temple.
“Wait wait wait run that by me one more time,” Mira said. Zoey took another breath.
“I got you here as fast as I could because you were hurt really bad. You needed care and rest and so I went off to try and find something that could help. Anything. And I saw this statue. Goddess of the Golden Light, Rumi. And in a moment of desperation I prayed. I didnt think it would work, I'd never heard of a goddess of golden light but at that point I had nothing left to loose,” Zoey said.
“And she appeared?” Mira asked. Zoey nodded furiously.
“Yea! And she was beautiful. And she is the one who healed you! And she did amazingly. How are you feeling? Any pain at all?” Zoey asked. Mira shook her head.
“No, none at all. Its like I had never gotten hurt. You'd never know if it weren't for the scars,” she said. Mira wasnt fully sure if she believed Zoey. She knew Zoey would never lie to her though, not about something like that. But Mira was well educated on ancient deities, even ones who no longer had following. And she had never heard of a Rumi, Goddess of Golden Light.
“Mira I know it sounds completely insane but its what happened I promise! You know I'd never lie to you,” Zoey said. Mira could really only nod.
“It does sound a bit far fetched. But there isnt anything else that it could have been,” she said. “Perhaps we pray again to her. Together, and see if she comes again,” she suggested. Zoey nodded.
