Mira, sweet darling, my favorite pink haired girl. You have the biggest couch in the universe and you sit on the coffee table. Why do you do this, Mira. Your couch can fit 30 people. Stop this nonsense. Sit on the big ass couch, Mira.
Not to be annoying (lie) but my personal fandom characterization pet peeve regarding the girls is Mira being the mean one while ⚠️HOT TAKE⚠️ i feel like if we really wanted to label one of them as being the "mean one"... That would be Rumi....
OFC!!! not always!!!
BUT when she feels cornered in any way, her default reaction is attacking the other person exactly where it hurts them AND GOD I FIND IT SOOOO FASCINATING and I wished people used it more when writing her!!
"I bite"
She always either (respectively) has a moment where she can relate to the person or apologizes for the way she behaves but overall she's sooo quick to be hostile to someone when she feels attacked in some way!! And she uses something the person says to her in confidence against said person and UGH. It's so delicious WE NEED TO USE THIS MORE
"I am not a violent dog. I don't know why I bite"
I think Mira only really gets aggressive when she feels like people are hiding things or not being upfront. She definitely needs emotional reassurance and clarity in her relationships, and when she can tell Rumi is lying to her, she gets angry. She already tried to talk calmly before, in Rumi's room. She's asking to come in, telling her she sounds good singing.
She's only mistrustful when she sees Rumi changing the lyrics. "So why are you changing our lyrics?"
In Mira's mind, she sees Rumi starts acting weird. Pre-Jinu, she was all "kill demons, all of them are evil". Then, during the events of the movie she's doubting the song for being too hateful and Mira sees her talking to a demon. Plus "Woo Jinu". She's cheering on a demon. Mira has every reason to doubt Rumi, but she gets a little hotheaded about it. IE: "I can't shake this feeling you're keeping something from me!"
As she's admitted, she's a little short-fused. But she apologizes afterward. "Sorry, I sound nuts."
Mira and Rumi's communication problem isn't fixed by this conversation. Rumi keeps acting weirder and weirder as they get closer to the idol awards, including refusing to perform Takedown. I think not only was she doubtful of Rumi, but she was also hurt by her refusal to perform a song she and Zoey spent weeks on. This leads to the train scene.
She's repeatedly given Rumi chances to explain herself, but nothing is working. She's worked up, so it comes out sharp. "What is your problem?" Mira tells it well herself, Rumi is "questioning everything we stand for when we're so close to sealing the Honmoon." Rumi keeps refusing and refusing until Mira snaps, and Rumi snaps back.
"What are you hiding from us, Rumi?"
"Not everything is about your insecurities, Mira!"
Mira is being short with Rumi, here, but she has good reason to be. No matter how hard Mira tries, be it gently or not, Rumi will not tell her what is happening. She's not trying to do anything mean or hurtful- she's trying to get the information out of her and is coming off as aggressive. Rumi, getting defensive, uses something personal to Mira, her insecurities, to win the argument. She purposely goes for a shot to Mira's character instead of responding.
Both of them are being mean to each other, but Mira is just fed up and Rumi is the one doing a personal attack on Mira.
Rumi does the same thing with Jinu. They're both bantering back and forth, and she's sick of him. He inserted himself into THEIR fan event, she has the right to be pissed. He's a demon, he plays dirty, but Rumi is too. He's making jabs about her patterns, and she's responding telling him he's pathetic, he's a demon. Right where she knows it'll hurt him.
Mira's not the mean one. She gets hotheaded and short with her friend when she repeatedly, obviously is hiding something and refuses to share it. Rumi is in a bad situation, trying to hide her secret, but she uses people's insecurities against them to make that happen.

i really hate when people call something a love triangle when it's just "two guys chasing a girl." that's not a love triangle, that's a love angle.
Now, I am not a Miromabby shipper, and I never will be. But let's get one thing straight.
This is not a love triangle. This is two boys pining over a girl. If you ship that, you're not shipping a love triangle. You ship a love croner.
A true love triangle looks like this. You can swap the arrows around, but the lines have to make a triangle. Duh.
Or, if you don't ship the love corner or love triangle, then just ship them poly. That means all of them are dating each other, not just the boys dating Mira. It means Abby and Romance are dating each other, and they're both dating Mira.
Get your terminology right, folks.
Absolutely adore when bubbly, upbeat Character A gets sick/injured and becomes loopy and dazed, giggling and rambling slurred compliments and vulnerable truths to usually stoic and graceful Character B, who's fretting over them and trying to bring down their fever/tend to their wounds and blushing furiously, trying to brush them off as being delirious and not thinking straight but unable to ignore their pounding heart and wandering mind, hidden feelings for them grow stronger
this but zoemira
Mira, sweetheart, they did you so dirty. Yellow is not your color, I'm so sorry 💔💔💔
When the girls were first getting to know each other, training as teens, they slept in separate dorms. Later, when they had to work on their cooperation and prepare to spend lots of time very close to each other as idols, they had to sleep in the same room. This is when Rumi learned that Zoey and Mira both snore A LOT.
Rumi is a pretty light sleeper, honestly, so that first night she was kept up by the absolute chainsaws on either side of her. Zoey was definitely worse, but Mira wasn't quiet either.
Throughout knowing them, though, she gets accustomed to this, and it becomes like white noise for her. Now, she's used to the noise and it helps her sleep. If she's not sleeping with the girls, she puts on white noise to mimic it. She doesn't sleep in silence anymore.
Just read the last chapter of Two's Company 💔 might do a review later but the last chap reminded me that Polytrix can't technically get married in Korea, one because they're women, two because they're poly. They can't get married because they're poly in America, either. 😭
I wish the world accepted love more than it does. I wish it allowed people who love each other to make it official under the law. I wish the world were kinder to queer people.
Anyway, if you haven't yet, read Two's Company, But They Want A Crowd by Tosslotsofsauce on ao3. It will change you.
fluffy polytrix sickfics make me melt. like yeah, they're sick and miserable, angst ig. I DON'T CARE. let me see them caring for one another and cooking and making soup and being cuddly and sweet. let me feel joy for once. god.
people who think Celine is the villain of KPDH are braindead as fuck and I'm not even being soft about it.
Literally the devil vs traumatized woman.
This happens all too often with characters who are written as not only victims, but unintentional perpetrators of generational trauma. This same exact thing happens to Ming Lee from Turning Red and Abeula from Encanto. Both do bad, harmful things to their family because of their respective traumas, and both are painted as villains by the people watching. This same thing happens with Celine!
Celine very clearly loves Rumi, but she had the "our faults and fears must never be seen" motto drilled into her head, and for good reason. As an idol, and more so a demon hunter, you really can't let your faults and fears be seen. At least not when Celine was young.
I have other posts about Celine loving Rumi, but really, if you think Celine is the villain read up on generational trauma and educate yourself.
Thank you for coming to my TedTalk

As much as Jinu gets glaze from one side of the fandom and the hate he gets from the other, I think he is a pretty good example of a well-written morally gray character. Like, a true neutral imo.
Sure, he was manipulated by Gwi-Ma. But going out of his way to make the Saja Boys was not Gwi-Ma. It was all Jinu's idea. As the demon king himself says "In 400 years, you've never done a single thing that didn't serve yourself". Forming the Saja Boys wasn't in Gwi-Ma's interest or the world's interest, it was purely for Jinu's benefit. If Gwi-Ma gained from it, that was just a byproduct.
Also, Jinu was willing to kill innocent people for what he wanted, erasing his memories. As seen in the train scene, the bath house, etc. We don't know how many more were killed off-screen. He is a mass murderer by proxy.
Jinu starts to have a "redemption" midway through the movie. We learn about his past, his sister and his mother, growing up in poverty.
He was in a bad situation, starving, a peasant, and he made a deal with the devil. One that left his family alone, that made him a performer for the king. He lived a comfortable live, leaving his family alone. He did a bad thing for a good reason.
Rumi believes he can change. They sing an entire song about escaping from their past and their insecurities, being free. He promises to let her win the idol awards. Then, he can finally be free from Gwi-Ma.
Then Jinu fucks it up again by betraying her. He was manipulated by Gwi-Ma. It does explain why, but it doesn't make it right. He hijacks the event, pretends to kidnap Bobby to lure Mira and Zoey away, and sends in fakes of them to reveal Rumi's deepest, darkest secret. The secret she has only told him. He reveals it in front of everyone. He got to know her, her secrets, her deepest fear, and used it against her.
Rumi has a mental breakdown and gets weapons held to her by her own friends. These things upset her so much that she literally begged her own mother (figure), Celine, to end her life. She thinks she's as worthless as a demon. That's all she deserves. The day before, with Jinu, she probably felt better than ever about herself. Because of his actions, her self-esteem was destroyed to the point of suicidality.
Rumi then has to clean up Jinu's mess. Gwi-Ma attacks Rumi, and she likely would have been hurt or died if Jinu didn't save her. His act is heroic, but he only has to sacrifice himself because of things that he caused. Without Jinu, there is no Saja Boys. Without the Saja Boys, Gwi-Ma would have died or been weakened to the point that it never happened.
While there is nuance to the idea that if the Golden Honmoon did happen, Rumi would have been killed because it "cleansed the world of demons", the way the movie plays out is still mostly Jinu, and moreso Gwi-ma's fault. If he had followed the plan, he never would have died. But also, he was tortured to make sur he didn't. Because he fell victim to Gwi-Ma, the whole movie ensued, and he sacrificed himself to save Rumi.
I honestly don't think the sacrifice was enough to fully redeem him. Jinu can't take back the harm he caused to Rumi, the people he killed, the fans he manipulated. He will have to do the work in the second movie for me to forgive him.
I do think Jinu is a good example of manipulation, though. His actions are his own, though they were heavily motivated by Gwi-Ma's psychological torture.
This post is getting long and rambly now. Jinu isn't a favorite character of mine by any means, but I do admit he is a well-written morally gray character.
Thank you for coming to my TED Talk.
🤔
This isn't a bad post, I feel it just reinforced how important his character is to the movie. Jinu is a tragic character who isn't evil because he wants to be. He made a deal to save his family which of course went wrong. Which of course it did, Gwima needs him to have shame and self hatred. Otherwise he has nothing to control him with. Gaslighting him into believing he deserves his life under Gwima.
The movie needed a conflict and Jinu gave it.
But he also showed moments of goodness such as sabatoging his own plan to hide Rumi's patterns. He could have taken Huntrix out but instead didn't.
Then Gwima reminds him he is watching and for Jinu to stick to their agreement.
It's through getting to know each other that they have any change and it established that Rumi and Jinu only fall for each because they can feel the positive changes the other has on them.
But he does cave to Gwima's abuse. Something that he has lived with for 400 years. He was only going to go with Rumi's idea because he thought he could get away from Gwima, which Gwima reminds him "your not going anywhere".
Jinu is a competent slave, Gwima isn't going to let Rumi take him away. Jinu gave Gwima results. It's not good for our heroine but we can understand why Gwima doesn't want to let him go.
Rumi's whole existence is because Gwima had this happen before. I don't know if Rumi's dad was as competent as Jinu, but a Demon Hunter and Saja Demon love story has already happened. So he is not going to let it happen again.
I feel like Jinu haters are so caught up with Jinu caving to his abuser and enacting on the plan he made first with abuser. That we forget this is a physical show of what her life would be like if Gwima owned her body and soul as well. So the villain who preys on your shame is doing what he normally does. Self hatred is something Gwima loves.
Rumi gives up because she lost her best friends and love interest gave up. Particularly when he sees it was Rumi who weakened the Honmoon. That is what he means "do you hear yourself".
Then Rumi learns how to fix the problem and stop the villain. She learns this by talking to Celine.
Yes, Jinu I bet is still going to have self hatred. 400 years under Gwima isn't going to erase that overnight. He did bad but to survive. Something Rumi can't connect with him with. But with freedom, I can see him wanting to do better. I HC he works with the poor. To give them help he never got as a human which led him to Gwima.
Like this character analysis it's that Jinu didn't start evil. He was a good person and that is who Rumi still sees even if Jinu doesn't. He sees what he has become under his life, enslavement and survival under Gwima.
I like Jinu because he is capable, smart, tragic and complex. He is a morally grey character because of his life under Gwima.
this is really good analysis; I think you pointed out some things I missed. Thanks, man!
people you meet on tumblr are either the most delightful, kind, amazing people who are lovely or the biggest pos you've ever met, especially SOME toxic rujinu and miromabby fans (not naming names but you know who you are if you're reading this)💔

i've read/watched/consumed so much polytrix media that I genuinely forget Jinu isn't Rumi's gay best friend and is her love interest in the movie.

i think that mira would use very sweet pet names and terms of affection, but i think she’d be very grossed out with ownership language. even by her girlfriend’s, which her whole heart belongs to, she doesn’t want to be told “you’re mine” or anything like that. it just gives her the ick, she can’t explain it.
(probably her unaddressed mommy and daddy issues that’s she’s not ready to confront yet but she doesn’t need to know about that)
i ADORE the idea that some of the fandom has picked up that she calls Rumi tiger post movie. It’s adorable. She also uses traditional pet names, I think, like honey and baby and such.
Yet, I also think she’s the kind of person who would affectionately insult her girlfriends, like calling them “brat” or “loser”.
anyway she is in love with these women and only these women and they all kiss and get married K bye!!!
more on my autistic huntrix, we need to normalize different responses to being overstimulated, and different stimulus that causes you to be overstimulated for different characters.
the stereotypes tend to be loud sounds, shut down, need headphones, go nonverbal etc. while that’s completely fine and if that’s you, that’s okay, i feel like it is often the only way people think being overstimulated is.
i feel like zoey would be the kind to shut down. she would get overstimulated by too many things happening at once, not necessarily sounds or noises, but if it’s too loud and her outfit is uncomfortable and she’s got a new tour coming up so she needs to go write new songs and prepare and it’s all too much.
she would likely be the kind to go quiet and find someplace quiet. i think she was def a crier when she was overwhelmed, but she’s gotten better at regulating herself as she’s gotten older. she can prevent herself from even getting to that place.
i think rumi is someone who shuts down, but not exactly in the way that Zoey does. I think Rumi would just go quiet and kind of spacey. She’s done this a few times on live tv, but otherwise she really tries not to. She’s actually a really good multitasker and honestly likes having a lot of stimulation, but there are certain things that piss her off a lot. like if her hair is wet and touching her? or if a shirt is too tight on her? that’s the kind of thing.
mira is the type to lash out, which i think is the most underrepresented in media. i imagine she’s just a kid with autism who’s overwhelmed, lashing out because that’s what she knows. people blame it on her being “difficult” or “a problem child” when it’s just her trying to regulate herself. what i think would upset her would be certain types social interaction. she’s very media trained, but it can really get under her skin if someone is being pushy or prying. intense, high stress social interaction, really.
all of them are highly masking people pleasers though, even if they wouldn’t admit it, and don’t really present very “autistic” to their fans. whether they talk about it or not would probably be something they discuss.
