She caved and called them good girls an hour later followed by cuddles and kisses
Ooo ooo predebut rumira this predebut rumira that what about predebut zoey whos so scared of fucking up she starves herself to avoid leaving her room at night. Who presents her lyrics like shes at a corporate merger layoff meeting. Whos terrified of mira’s bluntness and rumi’s temper and celine’s standoffishness to the point that she struggles to eat at group meals. A predebut zoey with an eating disorder attached to her need to Earn sustinance. Pre debut zoey who has to learn how to be a person again and not a collection of anxiety fueled stress behaviors. A predebut Zoey who isn’t the glue between them but the over flowing storm drain that they are racing to unclog. A predebut zoey who thinks everyone’s praising her as some huge long running joke and is constantly braced for the punchline. A predebut zoey who has to learn how to be loud again and still flinches at the sound of her own voice. A predebut Zoey who has such bad skin picking that Celine drags her to the doctor and Zoey has a full blown panic attack about the perceived inconvenience to Celine. A predebut Zoey who was never dx’ed with her adhd and sobbed hysterically when Celine got her on medication because she realized How Much Time she lost to it. A predebut Zoey who is just as resistant to opening up but too scared of being the odd man out that she fully fakes a personality for so long it takes her months to figure out whats real and isnt anymore. ‘No more lies’ wasnt just for Rumi.
i love that her on the clock smile is like “i know im hot” and her off the clock smile is “do you want to see my model railroad”
Headcanon: Celine is visibly less maternal to Zoey than to Rumi and Mira, she's less soft, more business.
If she seeks Zoey out to talk one to one, it's much more likely to be something work related- a musical arrangement, a possible collaboration, special training- than it is to be about something personal.
Or if it isn't about work, it's music related: a new study about how song lyrics faciliate memory, a paper on why people with aphasia can sing songs word perfectly even when the other words are mixed up.
A casual observer might wonder why this is (if, of course, a casual observer was around to witness, say, Celine sitting with Mira to comfort her after a bad phonecall home, which they never would be: Mira would never let Celine comfort her in public) or even suggest this might be because Celine doesn't like Zoey, might even express surprise that being the maknae of Sunlight Sisters hasn't resulted in her being closer to Huntrix's own maknae.
Isn't it strange that they haven't bonded, one maknae to another?
Celine though (and Zoey herself) though could tell you that this absolutely isn't true- of COURSE they've bonded over this, OF COURSE Celine has a unique understanding of Zoey's position.
Who else would be able to understand the absolute frustration of never ever being taken seriously, of being treated by everyone as if you're the cute little kid who ended up in the group as a funny mascot rather than as a performer?
OF COURSE Celine treats Zoey at all times with the upmost seriousness and respect, one performer to another, one professional to another.
She's the only one- other than Bobby- who ALWAYS does, and Zoey LOVES it.
Zoey, to Mira: I may have fucked up.
Mira: ...what did you do?
Zoey: You know how you want Rumi to not be working so much during our break and you asked me to see if I could find a casual, cozy game she might like?
Mira, sighing: This is Stardew Valley all over again, isn't it?
Zoey: No! This is not that! ...It...might be worse.
Mira: What game did you find?
Zoey, wincing: Uh... A Bumpy Ride.
Mira: ...
Zoey: It's a game where you play as a steam train operator in an old-timey land and all you do is deliver cute animal passengers and cargo around the map and make money to upgrade your train so the next day you can deliver more passengers and cargo.
Mira: ...Oh crap
Zoey: It's bad I don't think she's slept in three days!
Lover Girl Mira <3
Even when she lives with them, even after they're grown, Celine keeps a half-eye on her girls social media accounts so she can check in on them.
Like if someones's posting a lot at four in the morning, then that's probably a sign that Celine should maybe take a late night walk through the hanok and see if anyone needs some chamomile tea.
(They never say yes to the tea because they all hate herbal tea, and Celine refuses to make anything as sugary as hot chocolate so late, but the company still helps.)
I love the hc type of 'Celine was never around kids so she figured kids are just Like That any time Rumi did anything wild, except half the time it was Demon Stuff not Kid Stuff' so Rumi grows up just unhinged homeschool feral and I was thinking. About. The kimbap.
Like Celine is making it one day and she's got a couple rolls on a plate she's gonna cut and Rumi comes in and asks if she can have some and Celine is like 'sure' expecting the child to wait until it's ready except. No. She grabs a roll. Unhinges her jaw. And shoves the entire thing down her throat in one go.
And Celine. Just. Sighs. She's gonna have to make more now.
Okay wait wait wait wait. Tiny baby teenage Rumi who is a very popular but not especially befriended kid—doesn’t really know how to connect, is so overwhelmingly forward and bright that everyone thinks of her as a social butterfly despite that—and knows she’ll be having Her Hunters TM soon observing her schoolmates like an amateur anthropologist. Writing notes about how these friends share food, how those watch the same shows, how those two girls made matching friendship bracelets. Asking Celine what it was like getting to know her mom and getting frustrated when Celine tries to tell her about Miyeong. Making all her little plots and plans for how she’s going to make sure they will have the best bonding experiences ever
Oh my gosh, this pinched something in the feels...
An angsty something.
And whatever you do don’t think about Zoey
Zoey, who was always the odd one out, always too weird, always too forward. Had ADHD and all, but not in the cool, comes with superpowers way like in Percy Jackson—in the “Mom says it’s not an excuse, and Dad just tells me to be quiet” way
Zoey, who’s had enough fresh starts to know this one probably won’t be different, but not enough to stop her from hoping. (Celine—actual, for real, Sunlights Sisters Celine—gave her a contract. She said Zoey had potential. That’s the kind of thing Zoey used to daydream about.)
And she arrives at the hanok to find Rumi, who seems surprised every time a loser like Zoey gets up the courage to say something to her that isn’t “pass the salt, please?” or directly related to training
Not that she’s, like, mean about it! But Zoey can tell when she isn’t wanted. When she’s pushing her limits. And she’s always pushing her limits with Rumi
(Don’t think about Rumi, trying so hard not to make the same mistakes, to remind herself that Zoey wouldn’t want to be friends with her and she shouldn’t force herself on her, she needs to make sure that Mira and Zoey, at least, can get along, so she should keep her distance)
And then there’s Mira—it’s like no matter how hard Zoey tries to get along with her, she can’t! If she asks what Mira might want to do, if she tries to join her while she’s doing something, god forbid if she tries to suggest something she thinks Mira might like… Zoey just doesn’t get it
(And don’t think about how Mira might find Rumi and her perfect fucking life… irritating, but at least Rumi was honest. At least she actually thought her corny friendship bracelet idea was cool. And Mira maybe kind of agreed.
But Zoey? Zoey shapeshifts minute by minute. Zoey thinks banana milk tastes kind of weird, until Mira says she likes it. Zoey offers up nothing real, and that means everything about her is dangerous.)
Don’t think about Zoey, watching herself ruin yet another fresh start, crying herself to sleep, pulling all of her shame together and going up to Celine’s home office the next morning, ready to ask if she should just go or if Celine still thinks there’s some way she could do this right, muttering different ways to ask to herself as she tries to find the least humiliating
Don’t think about Zoey, walking straight into Rumi in the hall, looking up into her concerned face and bursting into tears again because there was no possible way she could ever deserve this and Rumi knew it
Don’t think about Rumi, tugging Zoey into her bedroom in the main house, throwing the teddy bear on the bed onto her lap for her to hold and panickedly doing everything she can to help calm her down, being so impossibly gentle with Zoey while she’s freaking out
Don’t think about Mira, being sent to find them because she’s the only one who turned up for their morning run and Celine is pissed, overhearing their quiet conversation from the end of the hall. Cringing as Zoey sniffs and says Mira’s been so mean, no matter what she’s tried, and bracing herself for Rumi to agree, because… fuck ‘em. They’ve already written her off, just like everybody else.
Don’t think about Rumi, still so gentle, instead saying, “Mira’s not mean! She’s just… selective about who she likes. I’m sure she’ll realize how great you are soon.”
Don’t think about Zoey, sitting there looking at Rumi, starting to wonder if maybe she isn’t as screwed as she thought.
Don’t think about Rumi, hoping that she’s right and that Mira hasn’t written Zoey off as someone too close to Rumi.
Don’t think about Mira, out in the hall, ache in her chest, trying not to let herself think it isn’t too late for them to forgive her.
And of course, do not think about Celine.
Celine, who desperately- desperately- wants Rumi to have what she had, for reasons beyond- above- the Honmoon (as wrong as it is for her to put anything above the Honmoon). To know what it is to share a life with people who make you feel whole and fill a part of you that you hadn't realized was empty.
(even if heartbreak comes later)
(which it won't; she will make sure of it)
Celine, who remembers what she wouldn't- couldn't- tell Rumi about her earliest days with Miyeong and Third; who didn't want to discourage her with stories of oil and water, of clashing personalities and arguments and her own snappish irritation at how Miyeong took nothing seriously except fooling around and Miyeong disparaged her back, of how she...doubted, that she could ever learn to like these girls, let alone love them.
It would be a disservice to Mi, and a disservice to her daughter, to daunt her with the growing pains of young friendships.
Celine, who raises a brow at Mira, all angles and broken glass, but trusts the Honmoon and welcomes her into their home, only to watch Rumi try and try and try.
And fail.
(Celine has failed)
Celine, who tells herself it's fine; Rumi is smart and kind and who couldn't love her Mi's little girl; they just need time.
They don't need her meddling; after
Celine, who gives them time.
Celine, who sees Zoey and thinks maybe this is what Rumi and Mira need, sunshine in human form. Because that's what Zoey, who hasn't stopped talking since they got in the car and whose face just lights up in a way that has Celine cracking the tiniest of grins, is.
Celine, who is wrong.
Celine, who is lying awake at night, lost, confused, alone, wondering what she's supposed to do.
Not what their mentors did, drag all three girls together for a talk about how "it's their duty to get along;" that's ridiculous.
(that was the first time they had a conversation that felt real, her and her girls, complaining about how ridiculous their mentors were, dictating friendship)
She is failing Rumi, failing Mi, failing the Honmoon and centuries of Hunters, all because she can't figure out how to help three girls who are soul mates learn to like each other.
Celine, who knows Mi and Third could have done a better job than her.
Knows...they should be the ones here, not her, who doesn't know what she's doing; hasn't, in so many years.
Celine, who's heart twists as she thinks about how she needs Zoey and Mira to love Rumi, because then maybe...if the unthinkable happens, they'll be able to do what she did so long ago and toss aside their blades.
Celine, who resolves that won't happen, since it's a risk she can't take.
Celine, who's still lost and confused and alone.
she wants her girls
Celine, who is standing in the training yard, watching the shadows grow short, irritation bubbling as she wonders whatever happened to Mira.
Celine, who goes looking for her in the main house, then freezes at the sound of voices from the hall leading to the bedrooms.
"H-hey. You- you two good?" Mira's voice, slow and halting and padding carefully around broken glass.
"Oh! Yeah, Zoey just...needed a moment." Rumi, trying to decide how much of a smile to give.
"Sorry." Zoey, who can't help but feel she's not allowed to take up space.
"Um, it's- it's okay." Mira again. "Celine just-"
Celine, who winces at the sound of someone bumping into a desk, followed by the hailstorm clatter of Rumi's collection of friendship bracelet beads falling on the floor. There's a silent beat, then apologies from Mira, placations from Rumi and Zoey, then they're cleaning up the mess, together, and-
"So, why all the beads?"
"Well, I...they were going to be for friendship bracelets. Which I guess in hindsight was lame, but-“
-and then there's chatter friendly as a spring breeze as Zoey vouches for the idea and Mira gives an assent that's the friendliest Celine ever heard her, spilling into the hall and lapping at her feet,.
Celine smiles, then turns back to the yard.
For one day, running laps could wait.
Mira moving into the hanok as this sad, scared, angry teenager who has spent her whole life being made very aware of all the ways in which she’s falling short of expectations, all the ways in which she’s too brusque, too impatient, too aggressive, too inconsiderate.
She doesn’t enjoy the knowledge that there’s something fundamentally wrong and unlovable about her…but the knowledge is always there, colouring everything.
She doesn’t know how to deal with how Celine acts towards her- always so calm, always so in control of everything, but without any hint that she judges Mira for falling so far short ofthat so often. She doesn’t know how to respond when Celine smiles at her when she sees her, she doesn’t know how to accept all the things Celine keeps offering her- plates of cut, peeled fruit and fashion magazines and compliments about how hard she’s working.
She doesn’t know how to answer Celine’s gentle questions about how she’s doing, Celine’s concern when she gets injured, her care over Mira’s training.
She doesn’t know how to respond to it- but she also doesn’t want it to STOP, she doesn’t want Celine to lose patience with her or get annoyed at her ingratitude and every time she freezes up, she’s can’t help but worry that this will be the time Celine gives up and realises she’s just not worth the effort.
When she gets sick and flinches away from Celine’s hand on her forehead at breakfast and mumbles that she’s FINE when Celine asks if she’s feeling ok, she mostly just wants everyone to let her power through…..but another part of her secretly is soothed by the knowledge that when Bobby finally sends her away from rehearsals, she can flop into bed and Celine will come check on her and tuck the covers around her and bring her tea.
Except this time Celine just doesn’t come- Mira doesn’t see her all day, Rumi says she’s on some errand, and she’s all by herself, feeling worse and worse in her lonely bed and also more and more abandoned and scared that Celine has decided she’s not worth worrying about.
Celine is horrified when she finds out that Rumi forgot to explain to Mira that the errand was actually to pick up medicine and a special hard to find herbal tea for her sore throat: Mira is so pathetically relieved to see her and so sick and tired and sad that when Celine finally comes in that evening, it’s impossible for her to not cry a little bit- and perhaps luckily, it’s also impossible, at last, for her to do anything other than lean against Celine and sniffle when Celine sits on the edge of the bed and pulls Mira into her arms.
Kpop Demon Hunters opened a can of worms for me in creativity. It's not even funny. I have lots of fic ideas and potential AUs that I can barely keep track of my notes lol
Except for this one. The idea I'm about to share was going to be a one shot fic, but I honestly don't feel motivated in writing it since I'm more focused on my other Kpdh wips. Even so, my brain wouldn't stop bothering me for weeks about the thought of Rumi having her first sleepover with Mira and Zoey, and so I decided to make a post for it instead
Nothing wow, but the idea takes place when the girls are in their early Hunter training days. Zoey would be (14), Mira and Rumi are (16)
Poor Zoey has been crying most nights because she is extremely homesick, and Rumi has been hearing her cry these past few nights. Rumi wants nothing more to comfort her, but Celine's iron rule of not getting too close to Mira and Zoey due to her pattern dilemma is on her mind. Until one night, Rumi couldn't take it anymore and decided to throw caution to the wind
The moment Rumi enters Zoey's room, she latches onto her unnie like her life depends on it. Rumi settles in and snuggles with her, reassuring her that everything will be okay. And no sooner that she had started her reassurances, Mira does a surprise entrance, and she looks shocked at seeing Rumi
Turns out softie Mira has been a regular visitor because the moment she tried to play it cool and leave (you know, cause Rumi is there) Mira thinks that she won't be needed, and deep down she's a tad *cough* (very) *cough* upset about it
Zoey then calls out to her and begs Mira not to leave and begs her to stay with them, and Mira was screwed the moment she saw Zoey's desperate puppy dog look lol
Mira and Rumi have a bit of a stare off, but they say nothing. The girls settle in for the night, until... Celine suddenly opens the door
I'd like to think that Celine likes to do a head count each night while on patrol around her property. More for her sanity rather than checking on the girls' behavior. You know, Celine is thinking 'It's okay. Everything's quiet. No demons. All my girls are here.' kind of reassurances, but she certainly was surprised to see Rumi in Zoey's room
Mira, expected. (Celine already knows about the sleepovers she's had with Zoey)
Rumi, however, was not expected. And Rumi was already enjoying her time with them and she obviously didn't want to leave
Celine says nothing. She just keeps staring at Rumi. Rumi thought that she wasn't going to have a choice on the matter so she made to get up and return to her room, until Zoey grabs her sleeve. Mira herself doesn't make a move, but her expression tells that she didn't want Rumi to leave either. I'd like to imagine that Mira would even go as far as to wrap an arm around Rumi's waist and pull her close to emphasize her point. Zoey is already safely snuggled in Rumi's arms, so this works out for the Don't Go/Protect Rumi sandwich >:3
Clearly outnumbered and Rumi now giving Celine the puppy dog look. Celine surprisingly relents, telling Rumi that it's only for tonight. Or, Celine relents altogether, but she'll certainly give Rumi the look of 'You better be the first one to be up in the morning.' kind of look for obvious reasons. Personally, I like option two for Celine. My gf does too
And after that fateful night, this event may or may not motivate Rumi to do more sleepovers with her girls. I'd like to say that she would go for it if she can manage to wake up first every morning. Or, alternatively, this could be a rather fun early half-demon reveal AU if Rumi just so happens to oversleep and Mira and Zoey just happened to see her patterns peeking from her robes. It would be rather interesting to see how their relationship dynamic could be like if Rumi accidentally exposes herself in this scenario with her patterns. Of course, there will be some conflict with Celine on that, but that's part of a story! Heck, Rumi can start accepting herself for who she is early with Mira and Zoey supporting her and standing up against Celine. And Celine for her part can slowly start to understand that while she's coming from a good place, she still needs to learn/understand that hiding one's flaws and fears is not the way to handle Rumi's situation. That's just me and my thoughts here. Anyways, hope you guys enjoyed 😊
Do you think they had to listen to that monologue every morning until they could repeat it in their sleep
I imagine kidtrix rumi and mira rivalry being like rumi saying “I love playing and coloring” and mira’s like dude no one loves playing and coloring more than me and they start scrabbling
The thing about food and eating is that I think very very few people just have like. Fully normal and healthy relationships to it. And all of the Huntrix girls have different kinds of weirdness to what’s up with them even given that someone (Celine) has done her best to make sure that they are able to eat despite the standards of the kpop industry
This is in part because Celine herself had a severe eating disorder as a younger person, and while she’s recovered to the point where she understands that what was happening with her and the other Sunlight Sisters was Not Okay and she really really wants to make sure that it never happens with her girls, she… has some weird ideas about what food is Okay and Healthy and Safe for her especially and about how to get people to eat in general
Which is why Rumi is the most chill around food but also does just kinda treat it as a necessity sometimes. She heard “food is fuel and you should give your body what it needs” constantly growing up, and so like she doesn’t do messed up “food as reward” or “food as overindulgence” viewpoints really but
She will just get disconnected from her body and forget to take care of it. Or sometimes, eventually, lowkey avoid taking caring of it. Because fuck it, she’s not a machine, she doesn’t need to be in perfect shape, why not go on an insane spiral and do something that sucks the whole way down instead?
For Zoey, it’s not the “what is having a body” autism as much (though that does happen to her), but the “I have sensory issues and food is An Experience” autism
Of course, it’s not like she can say that she doesn’t like mushrooms or that the texture of rice turns into something Evil the moment it’s even a little overcooked or she just finds lentils really very unpleasant. She can’t be picky and cause problems and make someone make a special meal just for her
(Her parents had a tendency to lash out. Maybe. Just a little. It’s fine! She’s not going to be a problem! It’s fine!)
Getting Zoey to express an opinion about food is a level four friendship achievement
Mira, meanwhile, grew up in the dance world, and so that came with a lot of bodyshaming—both from her teachers (too tall, anyone with an ounce of fat on them was fat (derogatory)) and from her family (too muscular, not feminine enough, etc)—and a lot of pushes towards restricting how much she ate and what foods were acceptable
When she moves in with Rumi and Celine, she’s very surprised to find that suddenly the attitude on food is not “let us control that heavily” and instead “yeah you’re doing a lot of work you need a lot of that so of course we’re making things with lots of nutrients in them for meals! You should feel free to get a snack whenever you want!” and, in classic Mira fashion, is probably the one who’s most worked through her existing issues to get more comfortable and healthy around food and in her body
It's funny because I was thinking about something in a similar vein. I was thinking about how Celine may actually be an unintentional Granola Mom, but not for any actual dietary or ecological reasons. Mostly because they've got this big ass garden and live on an island with the best growing conditions you could have, why bother with processed food?
Celine likely developed a lot of unhealthy eating habits for herself, but I imagine didn't apply those same things to Rumi, especially as Rumi was growing up. Before it became apparent that Rumi was going to be an idol, I think all Celine cared about was that she was eating healthy. And they've already got a leg up on that because they can grow most of their own fruits and veggies. There was probably a period of time in Rumi's life where "Cece I'm hungry" was answered with "The mandarins on the tree out back should be ripe by now".
And I can see that helping Celine's view on eating, somewhat. It gives a bit of control back to her. It's not just that she's eating "healthy" things like vegetables and fruit, but it's food she grew. She knows it's ok because she watched it develop from a seed. She was there for every step of the process, from the initial planting all the way up to the cooking or canning, depending on what she's doing with it. And the act of cooking - mostly for Rumi at the start - opened up the ability to see food in a different light. She started with the Most Healthy options: a lot of veggie or vegan dishes, ones touted as "the best for you and your kids" with a lot of organic ingredients and nutritional information. But slowly, very slowly, she starts to learn that it's ok experiment. Try new things. Indulge a little. Food is fuel, but it could be good fuel and she's always wanted to learn how to cook the abalone she always sees at markets.
It helps Zoey, as cooking means certain ingredients can be omitted or modified to suit her needs. And it's never a problem because it's a new way to try something. Celine keeps a recipe book of her own, one almost as messy as Zoey's notebooks thanks to all the notes about modifications and experiments. And the idea of cooking to take some control back is something she passes on to Mira. Celine recognizes similar patterns, though thankfully not nearly as ingrained in the teen...Yet. Thankfully Mira got out of there before it could get worse. Whenever Mira starts to get that "I'm hungry but it's not dinner yet and I don't need to eat right now" look Celine calls Rumi over. "Go show Mira the mandarin tree."
Side note: As a result of growing up like this, though, I like to think that Rumi didn't have much exposure to processed food until she was, like, eleven. Twelve, even. The first time she ever had a cup of noodles the sheer amount of salt nearly killed her. She basically curled up into a ball, like a snail, before Celine gave her a whole jug of water to drink. The first time she had a soda her head nearly exploded from the sugar high. She didn't sleep for three days. At one point Celine got up to get a drink at 2am only to have a small heart attack at the sight of Rumi hanging upside down from the rafters, eyes glowing in the dark like a freaking racoon.
i imagine Mira and Rumi were the first people to consistently indulge Zoey in her silliness
like, Zoey's had maybe a handful of friends before. some of them better than others. the only friend that really got her was when she was in elementary school and that friend unfortunately moved away after two years and they couldn't keep in touch
so moving and having two girls who would listen to her yap for hours? and would actually retain the information? and talk BACK to her? oh man
