“Did you eat yet?” Ahh yes a common hello for Asian households. I love the idea of dinner tables being a place where, regardless of the madness of your day, a family can be present and connect. Mama P’s specialties were her world-famous Grilled Cheese, Spaghetti, or Fried Rice! Another valuable thing I learned in that Schoolism class was how to construct different lighting setups using a neutral base. These were paintovers of a rough 3D layout, showing different times of day and different emotional states.

In 1863 she appeared to a small band of lost whalers to guide them home. Desperate and starved, they harpooned her instead. When they tossed what remained of her overboard, they had picked her piscine extremities to the bone, but left the top intact for to avoid the taboo of consuming human flesh. It's said her spirit returns yearly, approaches sailors lost, and performs the taboo 'mercifully' spared of her upon their wayward souls.

I never participate in Mer-May, so how about Mer-tober? Doesn't have the same ring to it.

Actually this is for this month's CDC over on Facebook. I think it's been exactly 2 years since I participated. I'm not a massive Halloween fan, but for some reason that seems to be the only time I think to look at the theme and decide to join.

Something I've been working with off and on for a while now. Mostly just practice and sorting out some strategies. I preserved my steps mostly as a self manual because I can never seem to remember how I got to point Z from A and then each new piece feels like starting from scratch method-wise.

Ahuitzotl, a mythological “water dog,” if you will. Key point is it had a hand on the end of its tail used to drag things under the water. It was a lot of fun brainstorming how this might work with or without being too literal about the hand. As an enemy in a game, a hand could do some really fun combo moves, but I thought it would have much more functionality if it could handle like a blunt melee weapon as well.

I’m doing witches for October, one a day. This is already a record of three, that’s how pitiful I am at these daily challenges! So far I’m being pretty diligent, but I expect I’ll be posting some really unfinished looking junk the further into the  month I go.

Did some texture studies recently since I had never gotten around to doing them before. I’ll definitely be expanding this as I find time between other projects.

I’ve been hard at work on these characters for the past couple weeks. Tonight is the deadline! Pushing for a quick delivery can be stressful, but you find new ways of developing a readable design, making shortcuts, and most importantly, finding satisfaction with somewhat unsatisfactory work. Not everything has to be perfect!
