r/TopSurgery: What have you noticed about not having boobs anymore?
Link to the reddit thread.
So wild to come onto Tumblr and see my own Reddit thread staring back at me. I love hearing everyone’s experiences and I hope this brings everyone a little bit of comfort and something to look forward to :)
Look at this muppet (Paradoxophyla sp., maybe a new species? we aren't sure yet). Just look at his hilarious face. This is not the face a frog is supposed to have. What are you doing with that NOSE?¿?¿?
I want to show off the moth drawing I started on, on the off chance any entomologists see this I need advice on moth anatomy, I think it’s pretty ok, but I’m practicing for a big piece and it’s hard because I don’t really understand how moths work
btw i want to say that the entire tumblr community banding together is what got these changes reversed so i hope u all realise the power of a reblog and start reblogging posts instead of just liking them this is the reblog website so hit that button right now
Why does this post have more likes than reblogs
people!
I wish I had taken a screenshot of when I reblogged the @tumblr @staff post announcing this new incredibly disrespectful feature, because this new feature became active within the past hour.
The announcement post, at the time I reblogged it, had around
2k comments
24k reblogs
13k likes
When I came back to Tumblr a little while later, the announcement post's notes had dropped significantly:
While my reblog of that post, now has its own notes AND comment section, completely separate from the OG post:
This means that the new feature is active at this very moment and that this is how it works. And it sucks.
This new reblog system GUTS original posts. Interactions and engagements can no longer be properly tracked. If an original post breaches containment, it REALLY breaches containment. Unless you feverishly check every reblog of a reblog of a reblog of a reblog manually, you won't know how your post is received.
This especially hurts creatives, who rely on engagement and numbers for the art, photos, videos, whatever else they post. They NEED to be a part of this, Tumblr, you can't bar the original poster from their own post's growth. It's disrespectful. It makes no sense.
If you disagree with Tumblr's decision to ruin creatives' post engagements and reason to post on this site, reblog the original post (linked far above), comment on it. Don't threaten, but be clear about why you disagree. Also send them your feedback through their support. Be loud about this.
Edit:
@changes blog <- Only comment on and/or reblog Changes's reposts about this new feature! The engineers won't otherwise see or read what you have to say.
Edit #2: this is a gradual update and rollout; if you don't see the updated reblog chain notes system yet, you eventually might within the next few days. You can read Tumblr's response to the outrage here.
@staff @changes
As an artist this was one of the last few places to share my art and I loved the collaborative feel of everything, I loved being able to have conversations in the reblogs with people who liked my art
If this change is not rolled back I will have no choice but to give up on this site, which I really really don’t want to do, because it’s unusable now
I wouldn’t mind if there was something like a “reblog addition” in the 3 dots at the top of each addition, in fact that would be an incredibly useful feature I’d actively enjoy to make it a few less clicks to reblog from the part of the post I liked
but this? This kills creativity and collaboration in a way that is truely horrible
I can’t even go through notes to see other conversations and threads off the post anymore

9. What are your file name conventions
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
9. I only name files I’m um uploading things to redbubble, otherwise literally everything is untitled . When things are on redbubble I normally name them stuff like “gay-swirl-heart, bi-swirl-heart, pan-swirl-heart” just so I know if got the right one
I totally pressed post before I mentioned too oops
16. when drawing I regularly forget to eat or drink anything for hours
19. trees. So many trees. Actually one of my two go to test doodles for new supplies too a few recent favorites (last one drawn with food coloring in the snow)
20. I’d probably say backgrounds, I see so many people complain about drawing backgrounds but i enjoy it
Food coloring?? In snow?? How? Also you have a lot of variation in food coloring colors
Ok so I took some old plastic bottles used a thumb tack to poke a hole in the top and then filled them with water and food coloring, used that to draw
I think I had 6 colors, was originally supposed to be a full rainbow and then I realized i didn’t have red
the brown is from coffee

Weirdly Specific Artist Ask Game
Didn't see a lot of artist ask games, wanted to make a silly one.
(I wrote this while sick out of my mind last year and it's been collecting dust in my drafts, I might as well let it run free) 1. Art programs you have but don't use
2. Is it easier to draw someone facing left or right (or forward even)
3. What ideas come from when you were little
4. Fav character/subject that's a bitch to draw
5. Estimate of how much of your art you post online vs. the art you keep for yourself
6. Anything that might inspire you subconsciously (i.e. this horse wasn't supposed to look like the Last Unicorn but I see it)
7. A medium of art you don't work in but appreciate
8. What's an old project idea that you've lost interest in
9. What are your file name conventions
10. Favorite piece of clothing to draw
11. Do you listen to anything while drawing? If so, what
12. Easiest part of body to draw
13. A creator who you admire but whose work isn't your thing
14. Any favorite motifs
15. *Where* do you draw (don't drop your ip address this just means do you doodle at a park or smth)
16. Something you are good at but don't really have fun doing
17. Do you eat/drink when drawing? if so, what
18. An estimate of how much art supplies you've broken
19. Favorite inanimate objects to draw (food, nature, etc.)
20. Something everyone else finds hard to draw but you enjoy
21. Art styles nothing like your own but you like anyways
22. What physical exercises do you do before drawing, if any
23. Do you use different layer modes
24. Do your references include stock images
25. Something your art has been compared to that you were NOT inspired by
26. What's a piece that got a wildly different interpretation from what you intended
27. Do you warm up before getting to the good stuff? If so, what is it you draw to warm up with
28. Any art events you have participated in the past (like zines)
29. Media you love, but doesn't inspire you artistically
30. What piece of yours do you think is underrated
Odds are low anyone sees this but yk, a guy can hope
Hi folks, I try not to talk about politics on this blog but I know that this is the blog with the most reach
today I realized not everyone knows that they can still reach out to their representatives (through phone, email, letter, fax, town halls, etc) even if they aren’t old enough/cant vote
so this is a little PSA, your representatives still represent you even if you’re a minor, they represent you and it’s you’re right to make your voice heard
Please consider rebloging for reach, because there’s no such thing as common sense, and who knows how many kids out there wouldn’t know if we didn’t share this info
A general cane guide for writers and artists (from a cane user, writer, and artist!)
Disclaimer: Though I have been using a cane for 6 years, I am not a doctor, nor am I by any means an expert. This guide is true to my experience, but there are as many ways to use a cane as there are cane users!
This guide will not include: White canes for blindness, crutches, walkers, or wheelchairs as I have no personal experience with these.
This is meant to be a general guide to get you started and avoid some common mishaps/misconceptions in your writing, but you absolutely should continue to do your own research outside of this guide!
This is NOT a medical resource!!! And never tell a real person you think they're using a cane wrong!
The biggest recurring problem I've seen is using the cane on the wrong side. The cane goes on the opposite side of the pain! If your character has even-sided pain or needs it for balance/weakness, then use the cane in the non-dominant hand to keep the dominant hand free. Some cane users also switch sides to give their arm a rest!
A cane takes about 20% of your weight off the opposite leg. It should fit within your natural gait and become something of an extension of your body. If you need more weight off than 20%, then crutches, a walker, or a wheelchair is needed.
Putting more pressure on the cane, using it on the wrong side, or having it at the wrong height can make it less effective, and can cause long term damage to your body from improper pressure and posture. (Hugh Laurie genuinely hurt his body from years of using a cane wrong on House!)
(some people elect to use a cane wrong for their personal situation despite this, everyone is different!)
(an animated GIF of a cane matching the natural walking gait. It turns red when pressure is placed on it.)
When going up and down stairs, there is an ideal standard: You want to use the handrail and the cane at the same time, or prioritize the handrail if it's only on one side. When going up stairs you lead with your good leg and follow with the cane and hurt leg together. When going down stairs you lead with the cane and the bad leg and follow with the good leg!
Realistically though, many people don't move out of the way for cane users to access the railing, many stairs don't have railings, and many are wet, rusty, or generally not ideal to grip.
In these cases, if you have a friend nearby, holding on to them is a good idea. Or, take it one step at a time carefully if you're alone.
Now we come to a very common mistake I see... Using fashion canes for medical use!
(These are 4 broad shapes, but there is INCREDIBLE variation in cane handles. Research heavily what will be best for your character's specific needs!)
The handle is the contact point for all the weight you're putting on your cane, and that pressure is being put onto your hand, wrist, and shoulder. So the shape is very important for long term use!
Knob handles (and very decorative handles) are not used for medical use for this reason. It adds extra stress to the body and can damage your hand to put constant pressure onto these painful shapes.
The weight of a cane is also incredibly important, as a heavier cane will cause wear on your body much faster. When you're using it all day, it gets heavy fast! If your character struggles with weakness, then they won't want a heavy cane if they can help it!
This is also part of why sword canes aren't usually very viable for medical use (along with them usually being knob handles) is that swords are extra weight!
However, a small knife or perhaps a retractable blade hidden within the base might be viable even for weak characters.
Bases have a lot of variability as well, and the modern standard is generally adjustable bases. Adjustable canes are very handy if your character regularly changes shoe height, for instance (gotta keep the height at your hip!)
Canes help on most terrain with their standard base and structure. But for some terrain, you might want a different base, or to forego the cane entirely! This article covers it pretty well.
Many cane users decorate their canes! Stickers are incredibly common, and painting canes is relatively common as well! You'll also see people replacing the standard wrist strap with a personalized one, or even adding a small charm to the ring the strap connects to. (nothing too large, or it gets annoying as the cane is swinging around everywhere)
(my canes, for reference)
If your character uses a cane full time, then they might also have multiple canes that look different aesthetically to match their outfits!
When it comes to practical things outside of the cane, you reasonably only have one hand available while it's being used. Many people will hook their cane onto their arm or let it dangle on the strap (if they have one) while using their cane arm, but it's often significantly less convenient than 2 hands. But, if you need 2 hands, then it's either setting the cane down or letting it hang!
For this reason, optimizing one handed use is ideal! Keeping bags/items on the side of your free hand helps keep your items accessible.
When sitting, the cane either leans against a wall or table, goes under the chair, or hooks onto the back of the chair. (It often falls when hanging off of a chair, in my experience)
When getting up, the user will either use their cane to help them balance/support as they stand, or get up and then grab their cane. This depends on what it's being used for (balance vs pain when walking, for instance!)
That's everything I can think of for now. Thank you for reading my long-but-absolutely-not-comprehensive list of things to keep in mind when writing or drawing a cane user!
Happy disability pride month! Go forth and make more characters use canes!!!
note I’d like to add on that last point from my personal experience is wether or not you use the cane to get up from sitting also depends on other situational things. Am I in a very squishy chair? Those are hard to get out of. Is there something like a very solid table i could be using for support instead? How high is the chair, how bad is the pain, etc
also thank you so so so so so much for making this, this is really really helpful and I will definitely be using this as a reference so I can make more characters like me!!
Hey, can y’all rb this if it’s okay to send you messages asking about your ocs, cause on god I wanna interact with y’all but I am terrified of being annoying lol
Reblog if this is actually you begging for someone to ask about your OCs and please interact with me I want to share the lore probably more than you want to know it
hi, kinda strange ask but I’m an artist and one of my projects was making a bunch of pride flag bookmarks, I have them all available as PDFs https://colorfullblob.wordpress.com/downloads-and-files/ and I made them with hopes of making them available for things like GSA clubs, pride events, and libraries. Although they can’t be used for digital books I was wondering if you still might be willing to share them, I’m sure plenty of other people need pride bookmarks in their life
hey im a librarian!
These are super cute, imma print some :)
I can’t tell you how happy that makes me! /gen
do let me know if anyone likes them?
do you want art like this? Do you want it completely free? Ask today and request literally any pride flag and I’ll make if of these for you free of charge!
please make a request, any flag even if I’ve done it a million times or if it’s a really obscure micro label
please I have migraines and these are the easiest thing for me to make without more pain
They would make a great holiday gift for an internet friend, I can make one in like half an hour. request one today and help an artist out
Could you do a trans flag one?
I did two because i wasn’t super happy with how the first attempt (second image) went
I hope you like them! If you want either of them as a pdf let me know and I’ll figure out how to dm that to you. And thank you so much for making a request
New ones
