I think Hannibal Buress is probably one of the best comedians (American or otherwise) touring today. I recommend him to anyone who enjoys absurdity, wit, and jokes that mock hipsters and racists.

Known for their "4 Chords Song", The Axis of Awesome combines musical talent and parody to form something very rare indeed: a successful musical comedy group with good songs! Their keyboardist Benny also has a youtube of his own where he plays melodica medlies of hit songs which I higly recommend. http://www.youtube.com/user/BennyTheJukebox
This will forever be how remember Denis Leary. He moved on and up from foul-mouthed stand-up comedian to cheesy christmas comedies and finally to blockbuster action movies, but to me, he will always be the guy who wrote Asshole. Also, The Ref was a really good movie. It's still worth watching after so many years, with its ridiculously amazing cast and... timeless family values...?
Bo Burnham combines great lyrics and an awkward/quirky stage presence. I maintain that he is one of the few American musical comedians I enjoy. My favorite part is the oboe joke...
Tripod vs. the Dragon is one of the best comedy/music/geek DVDs I've ever watched. The trio is always amusing, and the addition of the wildly talented Elana Stone to the show makes it not only entertaining, but also a joy to listen to.
Russell Howard first came to my attention with his work on Mock the Week. I recommend looking up more of his stand-up, as well as his show Russell Howard's Good News.
I was lucky enough to catch Dylan Moran a few months ago down on St. Marks Place. His "Yeah Yeah" tour was AMAZING and I thoroughly enjoyed every morsel of anger and hatred. His views, accent and mannerisms combine into a wild ball of fury and everyone should see him live if they can.
Dara O'Briain is well known for his work on Mock the Week, as well as numerous appearances on QI. He is a self-described nerd and I often find him saying things I've been thinking for years. His stand-up is chock full of science and common sense; he is not for everybody...
I saw Tim Minchin live in Town Hall a while back here in NYC. Anyone who can work statistics into a love song and still have it sound remotely sincere is a figure deserving of respect and adoration.
