[GDI ISA WHY YOU MAKIN THIS HARD
i wanted to do both so i kinda re-interpreted the wind waker one symbolically i don't know shut up]
-
"Back in time?" Axel repeated.
Namine nodded gravely. "That's...that's what it will feel like. I'll be using his memories to build the situation around you, and then I'll use your reactions to modify his memory." The word "modify" made her wince. "I could do it myself, but..." Her fingers tightened around the edges of her sketchbook. "I can't promise you that'd wake him."
Axel looked at the sleeping figure of Isa, whose gloved hands were folded across his chest. Ever since he'd returned from Nobodyhood, he hadn't stirred. It was downright maddening. "Y'know I'm gettin' pretty sick of saving you," he said to Isa's closed eyes, hands sternly on his hips and elbows sticking out behind him like angular handles. "One of these days I'm not gonna want to anymore, and you're gonna be so screwed."
Isa slept on.
"Hey, at least act like you can hear me!"
Axel shot Namine an exasperated can you believe this jerk? look and straightened, sighing and spreading his arms in a shrug. "Alright. Send me in."
-
This is some bullshit.
Namine hadn't exactly mentioned the fact that Axel would be going back as a child. It was strange just how small and light he felt, but also how slow and weak. If not for that he could've turned this form into pure speed.
The mirror showed him a tiny version of himself, which probably would have looked precious to him if it weren't him. He patted himself up and down. His head felt huge to him, shoulders narrow, arms like toothpicks. Was this how it felt to be Roxas? Nah--Roxas was more solid, like a miniature Saix.
Speaking of whom.
Namine had spirited him into a bathroom somewhere. From the smell of disinfectant and the folded up metal frame in the corner (with a use Axel didn't care to speculate on), he was probably in Radiant Garden's hospital. The occasional harder bump or scrape had been enough to land him here before.
Carefully, he cracked the door and peered out. He could see Isa, just as miniaturized but a good deal more precious-looking, with his head turned towards the window. Apparently a nurse was just leaving. Good, he thought; gives me time.
He frowned. What was he talking about, of course he had time.
Once the door closed behind her, Axel slipped out of the bathroom and leaned a chair up against the knob. He did this as quietly as possible, which was still very possible in this form--Lea's limbs under him became smooth and graceful instead of the awkward, half-grown things they had been back then--so he jumped at the hissed "Lea!" that escaped the bed behind him.
Turning, he saw that Isa was sitting bolt upright. The boy drew back the covers like he was about to leap out of bed and tear himself away from all the monitoring equipment if he had to to get to Lea, so Axel quickly held up a placating hand and darted over. "No no--don't get up." He was at least used to this reaction in Isa enough to head it off quickly, and he didn't resist when Isa reached out a hand for his. Isa's grip was crushing.
"Lea," he said again, just as hoarsely. "They told me--!"
"I know. Listen, Isa, I haven't got much time."
Isa's grip tightened and a flash of anger came into his eye. "What're you talking about? Lea, I thought you were--!"
"I am."
They both stared in silence. Isa started to shake.
"No. You're right here, you can't be--you're not."
"Isa--"
"I can't, Lea." A tear raced down Isa's cheek like quicksilver, and then another in a separate trail. "I can't."
Axel hugged him, and Isa threw his arms around Lea like it was the only thing that could keep him living. "Yes you can," Axel whispered, rocking Isa just like he would have any other kid under his care. "Because I'll see you again. I promise you I will."
The words were out before Axel realized it was a lie.
He was beginning to glow, and grateful to Namine for it--it was important that Isa see this for the hallucination it was. Isa must have known, too, because his arms clamped down tighter.
"Th-there's something I have to tell you," he whispered, and a weight dropped in Axel's stomach because Isa absolutely could not say those words.
Not to him.
"I know," Axel said, keeping his voice just as hushed; "I always knew."
Axel's grip failed and Isa's arms slipped through Lea until they reached his own chest.
His agonized wail seemed to go on forever.
-
By the time Axel woke, Namine was gone and Isa was sitting by the cot with his legs crossed. Axel blinked away the short nap with a deep sniff, pinching his eyes and then his nose.
His fingers came away wet.
"You got bored, I take it."
Axel sat up and did a double take Isa's way. It was so strange to go from boys to adults again, in the space of no time at all, but it was a relief to be back in his own properly angular form. "Uh," he said first, eloquently; then, "oh. Yeah. You were taking forever."
Isa snorted. "Do I look stupid to you?"
"Sure you want me to answer that?"
"I spoke with Namine."
Axel bit his tongue and shifted his jaw.
"I appreciate the circumstances, but if you did anything--"
"I didn't," Axel said. "She didn't even go back that far. That's not where the toxic memory was." But Isa still looked suspicious, so Axel covered one of Isa's hands with his. "I didn't touch them. I promise you."
Briefly, Isa's eyebrows went up and his eyes widened in astonishment, but then it was gone and he was looking at a corner again. He breathed in and then out again, slowly, and closed his eyes.
"Thank you."
Axel relaxed with him and a wry grin. Dark rescues like these weren't so bad, he figured.
He could get used to this.

I’m sorry, but I still don’t see how anyone can like Terra…cough cough*
Credit the art you repost.
AT Kingdom Heart BBS by Lavypoo
also yo OP
checked out your blog and apparently you think terra is both a moron and a dick esp to aqua
but here is where you are wrong!!! it is very stupid and blind to call only one of the bbs characters a dick. they all had moments where they were awful to each other. the moment in radiant garden is not just a particularly nasty moment for terra. it is for all of them. even tho terra does get the loudest you don’t have to shout to be mean.
the english dub was particularly a bitch to aqua and i am assuming that is what you played.
i actually don’t mind it because it helps emphasize how strictly she adheres to the rules to the point where it is a detriment to others.
now what does this have to do with terra not winning the douche of the universe award? i’ll tell you.
in enchanted dominion we see aqua have her initial knee-jerk reaction to terra helping out maleficent. she says he never could have had anything to do with it— and this is what she does truly believe. she even reassures ven the same thing before he ollies outie.
now in radiant garden her opinion has obviously changed. she’s thought about it. stewed. over-analyzed. and instead of approaching him as if maleficent could be wrong or something, aqua p much outright accuses him of what she denied again and again against maleficent.
terra’s one of her best friends. he probs would have expected some disappointment, but if he even had the chance to explain what actually happened, she probably would have understood a lot more. and would have been kinder. but he didn’t get to. she just went there, no segue at all, and accused him of horrible shit in front of ven.
he has every right to be angry.
he is giving a dick reaction to a dick prompt.
and ven realizes this.
and calls aqua out on it.
i also have noticed you seem to think he is a dumbass which is the general fandom consensus, which isn’t true. gullibility isn’t terra’s problem. it’s his pride. he thinks he can manipulate and one-up the villains. he thinks he can trick them. he gets progressively worse at it, yeah, but he starts out with trying to trick them to get info about xehanort. which is actually pretty smart cuz while he doesn’t realize xehanort is shady, the circumstances of his disappearance coinciding with the appearance of the unversed are, so what better place to get info other than from other super sneaky shady people?
i really just don’t understand
how you can post pictures like this and call terra out on being a dick on them
and then to post them without a source, eugh.
[i realize i'm still on hiatus but this post tho.]
Indefinite Hiatus
[so here's the deal.
number one, i can't keep up with all the things stressing me out at the moment. disappearing like i have has just been to try to chill, but it's actually caused more problems than it solved.
so i'm gonna try baby steps here. i need to get back into rp, but tumblr moves too fast. what i'm gonna try is hitting up a friend's site and easing back into the rhythm. once i can juggle stuff there, i'll see what i can do here. but till then it's just too many stressors for me here; i get backed up or hella interested in one rp over another and my posting speed at the moment is too slow for that kinda bullshit, and it bottlenecks when i get to a point where i've ignored one rp for so long i don't feel okay with responding to another one.
so to anyone i was rping with before i vamoosed, sorry. to anyone i wanted to rp with and never got the chance, sorry also. and to anyone i've rped with before but i'm going to continue rping with onsite, you know who you are, and shut yer yap.
rest assured that it's not you, it's me. maybe when i can deal with this stuff again we can go for it then! until that point i'mma be in and out on skype and over here if you wanna hit me up. /shameless plug
so, i'll see ya when i see ya.

You should stop, drop, and roll because your ass is on fire.
Oh, don't worry, I know~

The Walk
“I know who Saix is, Lea,” Isa said dryly. He didn’t mean to be short with the redhead, but he did have to admit; being thought crazy was not how he’d planned on starting this conversation. Isa gave a rough sigh, shaking his head slightly. This was going to suck.
“…we were far enough apart when he was attacked that I wasn’t. I…tried to reach him, but of course I was mobbed too. But the lag gave the guards enough time to reach me, I suppose.” Isa shrugged again. He was apparently getting desensitized to retelling this story. “…I woke up in the hospital two days later, and they told me Aeleus had fished me out…but it had been too late for Lea. A year later, the Gardens fell, and I ended up in Traverse Town until recently.”
Isa slowly glanced back up at Axel. A thought was occurring to him; something that might help him prove his point.
“…I don’t suppose…you still have your old Frisbees? Or your yellow scarf, from when you were a teenager?”
Axel made a face and lifted his hands in a physical impression of a "Well sah-ree," but otherwise didn't bat an eye. Lea had been used to a certain amount of sarcasm and cynicism from Isa, and this was a walk in the park compared to Saix.
But he listened seriously to the story, putting it together in his mind. It didn't add up. It hadn't been the Heartless that...but if Isa hadn't stayed conscious, then he could've easily been fed lies. With Saix away in the Organization there was no one left to tell the difference, and Aeleus had really been...so that Princess of Heart, the one from Radiant Garden, she must have been in the vicinity somewhere they didn't know--or maybe this was specifically engineered by Xemnas, why else would they have the same mark?--and all this meant...all this...
He doesn't know he's a Heartless.
Axel inhaled sharply and looked up, eyes snapping back into focus. "Hm?" It took a second for his mind to catch up with what Isa'd just said. "Oh, uh..." He afforded Isa a sheepish grin, scratching his temple. "Yeah, maybe. Somewhere."
The Walk
Isa shrugged helplessly.
“Damned if I know. I know it’s a lot to take in,” that was certainly the understatement of the century. If Axel really hadn’t known about this, no wonder he was reacting so poorly. He gave him another tight smile.
“…you think I’m out of my mind, don’t you?”
Giving Isa a very long, sideways look, Axel pinched the air in front of him between finger and thumb with a dubious-sounding "Eh."
"But hey, don't feel bad. Saix is just as nuts sometimes. That is, your..." Hang on, actually--Axel had no idea what Saix's relationship to Isa was. Nobody? Original? Second cousin twice removed?
"--Look never mind. So we're from separate timelines. But you say Le--you say your Lea still got attacked," he said, setting one finger to the side of his nose for a moment the way he did when he got thoughtful. "How'd you escape?"
The Walk
Isa startled slightly at the question. That was strange. Maybe Axel didn’t know as much as Isa’d thought?
“I’m Isa,” he supplied, a bit lamely. “Perhaps not the one that you knew, precisely, but Isa all the same. In your timeline, Isa lost his heart and became Saix alongside you. But in mine…the Heartless only took Lea,” he said quietly. “I survived, back then, and so here I am now.”
Axel didn't even feel it when his jaw went slack.
"Your...timeline."
Was he seriously getting hit with this? Did someone put acid in this guy's cereal? More importantly did someone put acid in Axel's? It was trippy enough finding a carbon copy of his best friend down to the green eyes without him also being barking, howling mad.
Axel crossed his arms and tried to digest this idea, but found he had a lot of trouble even considering it.
"I don't get it. How could I even meet you if we're not from the same, uh...reality, kinda?"
The Walk
Isa’s eyes widened in surprise. He hadn’t been expecting that question. His eyes dropped back to his lap again.
“Roxas told you, then,” Isa said quietly. He must have filled the redhead in at least on a few things, if he knew to ask that, but clearly not everything. Isa closed his eyes and slowly shook his head.
“…If I knew where my Lea was, I would be there. To be honest, for the last ten years I thought he was-…” Isa couldn’t quite bring himself to say it, even to Lea’s doppelganger. “…for all I know, he might be. I can’t use those portals without one of those,” he said, gesturing to Axel’s coat, “so my search for him hasn’t gotten very far off the ground.”
Isa’s eyes flicked back to the redhead’s face. He couldn’t help it; it was hard to be right here beside someone who was his Lea in almost every way, and still try not to stare. He met his eyes, green as the ones he still saw in his dreams. Another tight, thin smile spread on his lips.
“…you must think me terribly disloyal,” he said. “But even if I didn’t know to search for him, I never forgot him. I promise you that.”
Axel couldn't hide his disappointment. He knew it was a long shot, he knew that he could be wrong about this entirely, but it was disappointing to find out he didn't have the ghost of a chance at finding his own heart this way.
But the rest of what Isa said boggled him into silence. It almost sounded like he thought he was whole, but Axel was so far away from thinking in those terms that he couldn't wrap his mind around what sounded wrong. The idea of disloyalty especially seemed out of place. Since when had that even come into play?
"I...wouldn't expect any less," he said. "From Isa."
His eyes narrowed slightly.
"But what exactly are you?"
Mission Time
A team mission? With Axel? Roxas narrowly avoided paling as he listened to Saix list off the mission details; boss rank Heartless, Neverland, yada yada usual advisory information.
If he didn’t know better, he’d have assumed that Saix had planned this. But there was no way he could’ve known about what had happened yesterday- well, apart from Roxas’ obvious disappearance in the middle of a mission. Again. But he knew that Saix knew about that. Roxas had known that last night, when he had shown up way too late and turned in a mission report that was just sub-par enough to be suspicious.
But for the first time in weeks, it wasn’t Saix that Roxas was worried about. It was Axel. It made him feel horrible- but- after the way yesterday had gone, was it really any surprise that he was suddenly dreading working with his best friend? There was no way they were going to finish this mission before Roxas had told Axel everything. Every last detail. After the look Axel had given him yesterday, Roxas was sure of it.
Just like he was sure that Axel was going to be furious with him.
- Oh, Saix was talking to him. Making sure he understood the mission details. Roxas gave a distracted nod of confirmation before vanishing into a portal. He strode quickly down the Corridor, vaguely hoping that he’d arrive before Axel. As if it’d make some kind of difference.
At the very least, it’d give him some more time to think.
Alright so Axel maybe overslept a little.
He had apparently nudged his alarm onto the floor to break and told the Dusk that tried to rouse him to go do so something physically impossible to itself, but he didn't really remember this. So when he got confronted with the Berserker that placed itself right in front of his field of vision, Axel made a lot of noise.
"OUTTA MY ROOM ASSHOLE!"
Damn thing didn't even have the common decency to shut the door.
The morning routine was a little more harried than usual and involved a steady stream of vindictive mutters, but by the time he was on his way to the mission Axel was in better spirits.
Until he realized he got to babysit today.
He actually hadn't thought of it like that in a long time, but it was suddenly a burden. Axel didn't know a whole lot about feelings but he knew that felt rotten. He pushed it to the back of his mind with the rest of the burned bridges and tried to focus on the moment.
"Someone's early," he said when he caught up to Roxas. A black and gold speck in the midst of Neverland's bright greens and blues was hard to miss.
Axel set a hand on his hip and tried not to look too irritated right off the bat. It was a weird problem for a Nobody to have. And it resulted in an awkward silence. "So what's this mean then," he added finally, waggling a finger between them. "Saix catch on already?"
Telling Saix about this had crossed Axel's mind more than once. He hadn't, not so much because Roxas said not to as because Axel decided it wasn't a good idea yet. Not until he was certain. If this Isa turned out to be something other than Saix's Heartless, speaking up would just put him in danger.
The Walk
Isa’s eyes never left the Nobody as he crossed the room and sat down. Every move the redhead made was familiar, painfully familiar. It wasn’t his Lea, he reminded himself. But he wasn’t sure his heart was getting the message.
Isa’s smile took an embarrassed twist at the edges. “Yes. Thanks to you, I’m told.” He still couldn’t quite recall anything but fuzzy images while he’d been in the crevice. But from what he’d heard from Aerith, he’d surely made a spectacle of himself. Isa grimaced. His eyes dropped to his lap for the first time since the redhead had appeared at the door.
“I’m…sorry you had to see me like that,” He fidgeted, fingers twisting together in his lap. Slowly his eyes rose back to Axel’s. “…If I…got to meet you…I didn’t want it to be like that.”
Waving a hand, Axel snorted like it'd been no big deal. It was in part to take attention away from the fact that he couldn't stop staring. As before, it was weird to see Saix not acting...like Saix, but not quite like Isa, either. He'd grown and changed in ways that Saix could and should have, but didn't for want of a heart.
Then again, whatever Isa actually was right now, it might not be that old.
"Meet me?" Axel repeated before he could stop himself, and remembered belatedly that Isa had mistaken him for Lea at first. "Uh...yeah. About that."
He inhaled.
"You wouldn't happen to know where 'Lea' is, would you?"
The Walk
Surprisingly, Isa hadn’t tried to get up when he heard the knock at the door; Aerith had chased him back into bed one too many times already since he’d gotten his concussion. Anyone who needed to come in would come in after the knock anyway, Plus, standing up still made his head swim.
But Isa wasn’t expecting to see the man who stood in the doorway. He slowly pushed himself to sit up, being careful of his bandaged ribs and shoulder, eyes never leaving the redhead. He stared at him for a moment or two, waiting for him to enter. When he didn’t, Isa gave him a weak smile.
“You can come in, you know,” he said, the hint of a chuckle in his voice. “I don’t bite.”
The suggestion made Axel straighten and his eyebrows went up briefly, like he'd just gotten caught not paying attention in class. Then he returned the chuckle with a soft, smoky laugh and let the door go behind him, closing the distance to Isa's side. "Well it's a good thing, or I might be walking in here with a few new bruises by now." He took a seat, adjusting the chair a little so he could face Isa, and rested his ankle on his knee--instantly comfortable and smooth.
But his eyes darted now and then.
"Looks like you made it out in one piece after all," he added, stalling a little. Ugly topics had to come up, but he could at least act like he was concerned first.
The Walk
Aerith couldn’t say she hadn’t been expecting a knock on the door. After the events of the other day, it was beyond likely that Isa was going to get at least one Nobody visitor. She was only surprised it had taken so long.
Aerith opened the door to find the older one; recognizable only by his build and the visible tattoos. While she personally would rather have seen Roxas at the door, she couldn’t have possibly missed the look in Isa’s eyes that night. She knew this one was the one he was hoping would come. Aerith didn’t even have the chance to greet the man before he was asking after Isa. That was a good sign, at least. She nodded and stepped out of the way of the door, gesturing for Axel to enter.
“…yes. He was hoping you would come,” she said. “His room is down the hall, second on the left. Don’t let him get out of bed,” she warned as she closed the door behind him. Almost as an afterthought, she started moving towards the stove.
“I’ll put on some tea for you two.”
He stepped inside swiftly, but stood awkwardly, not at all accustomed to making a house call like this. Letting his hood fall back against his shoulders, he watched her go and turned his footsteps in the direction she'd given him. But something was missing, he was forgetting...something.
Oh.
"Thanks," he said over his shoulder.
Giving Isa a warning knock--he was doing that crap a lot lately--he didn't wait long before opening the door anyway just in case Isa tried to get up to answer. Even if it hadn't been in his best interests, Axel wasn't so sure he wanted to get Aerith mad.
Isa looked better than he'd seen back at the fissure, and Axel sagged slightly at the doorframe in lanky relief. "Hey," he said with a faint smirk tugging at his lips, but hesitated at the threshold as if he were about to enter a shrine.
