Friends to Lovers with Grace Ashcroft
There weren't a lot of people in your class at the FBI academy, and even less women, so when you saw Grace you flocked to her.
She seemed reluctant at first, not because she didn't like you but rather because she was shy. It was weeks before she finally looked at you AND said something at the same time.
You guys study together and Grace helps you with the academic portions of the exams while you help her in the physical aspects.
She hates the gym just as much as you hate those manuals, but the two of you easily pass both portions by helping each other out.
You're going to be fast tracked to field agent and Grace knows she's destined for desk jockey, but while you're both stuck in those stuffy cubicles, you make the most of it.
Grace doesn't like eating away from her desk, so you just sit on the floor and eat with her. Grace offers to let you bring in a chair, but you tell her it's nice to stretch out a bit.
When her desk gets too cluttered, you let her eat at yours while you continue to sit on the floor and stare at her (if she notices, Grace doesn't say a thing about it)
After work, you try to hang out with Grace at least once a week. You even pick up a game or two that she mentions playing despite video games not being your thing. Grace tries to get into sports for your sake, but she can't focus on a thing you tell her.
When she goes off on that mission, you're worried sick the whole time and it doesn't get better when Grace comes back. Yes, she's less timid, but you can tell something bad happened.
Grace opens up about her mom and warns you that she's going to have less time to herself because she has someone important to take care of. It's still a couple months before you're introduced to Emily.
You're patient with Grace during this time even though you miss her. You see her at work every single day, but it's not the same when she eats at Emily's new facility before she takes the girl home and heads straight there after work too.
Grace notices that you're down and invites you to dinner, but neither of you have a clue about what was going to happen. You're kind of obviously in a dark place without her and end up drinking too much before your food comes and spilling everything.
Understandably, Grace avoids you for a week and you're contemplating transferring to a different location when she stops at your desk. Usually, you were the one reminding her when it was time to leave, but Grace was almost certain you had been sleeping in the office once a week.
Grace asks if you meant what you said, and when you tell her how long you'd felt that way, she invites you to dinner with her and Emily. You want to ask what this means, but you're afraid of messing up.
It's not for very long, but Grace kind of likes not being the nervous wreck between the two of you. However, she can't string you along and when Emily is supposed to go to bed, Grace kisses you.
You go home feeling like you're on cloud nine and Grace does too, even if she has to lecture a very smug Emily about spying on people.
Grace starts asking you to come over more and begs Emily not to call you her girlfriend just yet, as if the two of you don't move extremely fast to make up for lost time.
Grace's place is where most of your dates happen, but when things start getting intimate, Grace has Leon babysit and she stays over at your place.
Things go well with Grace as your relationship and careers progress. You start your position as a field agent within a few months of Grace asking if you'll move in. Grace gets a promotion as well, and with Emily around, learns not to overwork herself quite as much.
