MY FIRST (and last) VLOG AHHHHHHHHHH!!!!
*Viewer discretion is advised*
DESTRUCTION in CONSTRUCTION
As we all know, the students of the University of the Philippines are known for being outspoken when it comes to their advocacies. With the rise of climate change, the school's advocacy towards saving the environment has been more important than ever, one of them being the prevention of tree cutting.
In the picture, it is obvious that there is construction going on beside the school's entrance. Now, did you know that the first step in preparing a construction site is to remove vegetation (i.e. trees)? with this in mind, doesn't it seem ironic? Because from the viewpoint of an outsider it most certainly does.
Although we are aware that the purpose of this upcoming building is for expansion, we still believe that there are certainly better ways for it to be less destructive on the environment.
MORE THAN A STATUE
Oble.
The ever so famous Oble.
Made by Guillermo Tolentino (under the commission of 1935-1936 UP students), it imitates a naked man with his arms wide open and symbolizes the motto that every Iskolar ng Bayan must obey-- honor and excellence. In addition, it entails that every student of the University of the Philippines must be willing to offer themselves in service of our country. Hence the chant, "Iskolar ng Bayan! Ngayon ay lumalaban!"

MEME for a CAUSE
Photo taken from:

Bet! You thought that meme was supposed to be funny right? Eh, wrong! Due to the rise of Internet Memes (those that we see often-- funny and entertaining), tons of people, and maybe even YOU, wouldn’t even know that memes, in general, act as a medium that carries cultural ideas, symbols or practices from person to person. See??? Not everything’s a joke. The one above is what we like to call a “Meme for a Cause” because of the meaning it entails and the real life problem that it implies-- suicide.
Some people who are unable to think critically might see it as something funny because of the picture that was used to accompany the caption or maybe even boring because their typical idea of what a meme should be is not like the one above. Since internet memes are basically open to replication, it is prone to different sorts of alteration by tons of people which can result to misinterpretations. Because of the insane amount of memes being shared constantly through the internet, people with authority (gatekeepers) are not able to assess what memes are worth sharing. With this in mind, how are we able to start any kind of action towards certain issues if we are unable to use the right medium to disseminate information? A little tip for all of you “memers” out there! Go beyond what you know and find the initiative to learn all the types of media and their uses before using them!
