Methamphetamine experience
I haven't had methamphetamine in about a year and a half, so this is a welcomed treat. I have stimulant tolerance from finals when I was taking ~100-150mg of amphetamine. I was alternating it with methylphenidate each day to try and control my tolerance in addition to taking chelated magnesium. Finals are over and I received my degrees and just picked up 1 gram of methamphetamine.
The appearance was spectacular and the crystals were very large  The three largest shards were ~300mg each and the smaller crystal was ~100mg. The material tastes a bit like salt but with an electrifying tart taste. The smell is faint but smells musty in a way. Picture below:
I placed a 20mg crystal in a weighboat and crushed it before finely chopping it up with a razor. Two small lines were formed and they glistened in the light with a bleached white color. Insufflating the material burns moderately but fades quickly. I then went outside to smoke a cigarette. Approximately 5-10 minutes after administration I begin to feel the onset. The effects initially manifest as a relaxed bodyload with altered coordination akin to feeling tipsy from alcohol. Shortly after, the euphoria began to surge through me. I was in a joyous mood, everything in my vision was brighter, and I was immensely calm yet focused. My heart rate was mildly elevated and I sat appreciating the effects for a time.
Due to my stimulant tolerance I decided to add on some additional material. I loaded 15mg into my pipe and began to vaporize it the best I could. I had only smoked 10mgs or so of methamphetamine twice before this. As I rolled the pipe, a milky vapor began to rise and I stopped the flame to prevent the material from burning. The vapor has a mildly tart taste and a faint musty smell. The vapor does not burn the lungs or induce coughing, in fact it does not feel like you are smoking anything at all. The rush from smoking kicks in about 1-3 minutes after inhaling. The rush hit me ~3 minutes after finishing and it was very euphoric and gave the experience a tactile edge. All bodily sensations become enhanced, notably the feeling of various textures. The dosage boost increased heart rate a bit, but not much tachycardia or palpitations. I'm currently just relaxing and in the process of writing this post.
Despite what the media depicts, methamphetamine is not this demonic drug which makes you instantly addicted upon first use before ruining your life. It does not necessarily make you edgy or erratic with common recreational usage. Those problems generally arise due to not eating, drinking fluids, or sleeping for days at a time. The stimulation is smooth and actually relaxing.
The lack of side effects and peripheral stimulation seen in methamphetamine versus amphetamine is partially due to the chirality of the product. Enantiomers are akin to the having a left and a rite hand. Both hands are identical in form, but they have opposing orientation in time and space. The two enantiomers are composed of the same constituents, but are not able to be superposed. Enantiomers are the same in regards to their physical and chemical properties, but they rotate opposite directions when exposed to plane polarized light. One chiral center will yield two enantiomers, one rotating clockwise, and the other counterclockwise.
All most all of the methamphetamine in the US is solely the dextrorotatory (dextro) enantiomer. Generally, only the D- enantiomer is active upon the central nervous system. The L- or levorotatory enantiomer induces side effects as it primarily acts on the peripheral nervous system. This greatly contributes to uncomfortable stimulation and side effects such as heightened blood pressure and heart rate as well as jitteriness.
Mixed amphetamine salt preparations such as generic pharmaceutical pills or Adderall generally contain ~75% dextro and ~25% levo enantiomeric mixture. This helps explain why something like Adderall feels a bit dirtier and edgy than methamphetamine. The presence of the L- enantiomer causes the undesirable side effects. Street amphetamine in the EU is in the same boat, but it is generally racemic (50:50)) mixture of the dextro and levo enantiomers. In theory the EU speed paste would feel even dirtier and have more side effects than Adderall.
The methylation of the amine of amphetamine results in greater lipophilicity of the newly formed compound methamphetamine. Lipophilicity measure how well a compound can dissolve in fats, lipids, and non-polar solvents. The higher lipophilicity of methamphetamine allows the compound to cross the blood-brain barrier (BBB) much faster than other stimulant compounds. The additional methyl group vs. amphetamine also provides resistance against metabolic breakdown by the enzyme monoamine oxidase (MAOI).
