One part of the Hellaverse that I'm both deeply fascinated with & also off-put by is its portrayal of "Kink" and general sexuality. Inside both Hazbin & Helluva the way stuff like latex and bondage and other things in that vein are used feels much more like set dressing than actual interest in them, y'know? When there are characters on screen wearing kink gear it gives off someone wearing a costume rather than someone who's actually into latex and leather. To me it feels like kink in the Hellaverse is more about the costumes rather than the actual practices n such. All we get is like ball-gags and handcuffs instead of something ACTUALLY sadomasochistic (not including angel dust getting sexually abused.)
None of the characters seem genuinely "into" the things that are connected to the costumes they're wearing, its just fashion, which is fine! BUT when your trying to tell me that they're actually into it, that's when problems arise, because the way they're being written doesn't really show that. I see this within Angel Dust and Stolas's characters especially, with Angel its more excusable that its just an act since its a part of his job lol. For Stolas though its just kind of There, him and Blitz using handcuffs and ball-gags is shown multiple times but it doesn't feel like either of them are into bondage, once again its just set-dressing. If they really were into stuff like that then WHY, HOW, WHEN! We never get those questions answered, we never get to learn how these interests started & grew, its just stuff to make the whole scene more edgy.
Its clear that viv just likes the aesthetics of sex and kink rather than the actual thing, and its fitting I guess since she probably only chose Hell as the setting for Hazbin & Helluva because she liked the aesthetics she could use for it rather than a better reason like what she could do with it story-wise.
