somewhere right now a person who censors cr*zy is calling a woman a bitch
The argument over whether "audiobooks are reading" is so laughable to me because it is straight up asking "is listening reading?" Of course it is not reading. Oh my god what. Doesn't mean it's bad. I listen to way more audiobooks than I read physical books at this point in my life. And yes that means I'm not reading books very much right now. People will then be like but I have so much trouble reading and I do so much better with audiobooks. Okay - I am not mad at you. But since you yourself just said you are good at one of those things and not the other how could they possibly be the same thing? In the era of making journal articles into audio files this feels more important to me than ever. Listening is not what reading is! It's not a moral argument against audiobooks.
"It is mean and ableist to say that your eyes and ears are different organs" type of argument.

i cant ever find her…..but she always seems to find me

Wanted to keep this in order to keep looking at it when I'm sad about this situation but figured I would say: thank you.
Success is one person’s life being better because of what we do, shared Elizabeth Holmes, the founder and CEO of medical device and technology company Theranos. “Now it’s about doing it again and again for more and more people.“ Read more insights on Twitter from her Stanford GSB View From The Top talk: stanford.io/1qEOogA #GSBvftt
Losing (to life, not death) a woman this year that I was so close with that she is still my emergency contact under "sister" at all the hospital systems in the city has been so shocking and crushing. One of my two best friends in the world of a full decade and the woman who wanted to be each other's medical power of attorney. Because it was so sudden with no closure or really official announcement, it has taken me so many months to even accept/understand that it has pretty clearly happened.... Everyone -- including me -- makes her choices and has to live with them. And we are certainly all. Well. Living with our choices. I don't really know if I am going to ever get over it, as it was a pretty irreplaceable relationship that I was not particularly looking for in the first place and would never know how to seek in the future. I go to the doctor all the time, and having to correct my emergency contacts to no longer include my "sister" is so touchy every time, and receptionists ask sometimes so I say she moved. Unless her plans changed (I really wouldn't know), that's the truth, sort of.
I had major surgery last month, and updating my emergency contact for it immediately beforehand was just difficult. No medical power of attorney now. Not that we had officialized it, but nobody in the plans either. And nobody else is really going to be right for it. I considered her family in such a profound way and I guess I should have thought about the fact that things might be different for her because she has a great family already, or that I put her through too much, or......... I don't know. I'm so bitter and I also so desperately hope she knows that I don't regret meeting her or falling in well passionate friendlove and that I know many of the things I'm most grateful for in my life now are a direct result of her meeting me and loving me and prioritizing me and taking care of me and sharing her life with me and never giving up on me and letting me know her and care for her and learning and thinking with me and her and everything. It's surreal to have been at her graduation with her girlfriend and her parents and uncle and cousins and grandmother all taking pictures together in December and then suddenly never hear from her again in March. It's weird still constantly getting mail addressed to her and there not being any point in saving any of it for her anymore.
I said my piece over text back in May or June, just saying that it was obvious she was not speaking to me, listing a bunch of reasons I could think of why, telling her I would be open to talking about any of them or about anything else, telling her I loved her and she was very special to me and always would be and wished her well etc. Sure there have been some really unfortunate circumstances and decisions from multiple parties but throwing away ten years of growing to be family blindsided me.
I went on vacation with her family once several years ago and it was such an unbelievably special week for me and I thought I would do it again one day. Her mom and I texted and I thought I might have that forever. It's a shocking loss that I must accept. I just wish she had broken up our friendship officially and I wouldn't have had to spend five months waiting before accepting. It feels worse in a way than my breakups in that it feels more personal and pointless. Breakups can happen because choosing to partner with someone to exclusively plan your life with them can have one billion dealbreaking incompatibilities. Ending a friendship just means they'd rather not speak to you than speak to you, and due to my clear limitations of imagination on this matter, or my own inappropriately flattering self regard, or all the times she said that she would be in my life forever, I never imagined that she would feel that way. Anyways. World keeps on turning. Significantly more coldly.
