do you guys think c!schlatt exiling c!wilbur and c!tommy was a heterophobic hate crime in a homonormative society (the dream smp) please discuss
Definition of Hate Crime under Canadian law is “that the offence was motivated by bias, prejudice or hate based on race, national or ethnic origin, language, colour, religion, sex, age, mental or physical disability, sexual orientation, or any other similar factor.”” Following from this definition, I believe that the exile was not a hate crime even given the clear presence of heterophobia on the server, given that it was politically motivated (He just hated them and wanted them gone). In the same way that the death of a political figure can be murder or assassination based on whether political moderation was in play, Schlatt’s hatred seemed to be based in non-protected factors, and thus the exile of c!Tommy and c!Wilbur was merely a contravention of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
Also I’m not sure that we can really define c!Wilbur as straight in DSMP canon.

objection. tubbo was never straight passing because at the time of his execution he had never been in a public relationship and the dream smp is a homonormative society.
Since mpreg is dominant as well as homonormativity, Tubbo was straight-passing, because he said that he was pregnant.
As of now, we have not seen pregnancy resulting from two men or two women, so we can theorize that pregnancy only happens in a heterosexual manner.
(The only children being Wilbur from Kristin and Phil, El Rapids from Quackity (in a metaphorical way, not biological), and Foolish from Puffy alone, which I imagine as some kind of godly parthogenesis or simply adoption)
So, Schlatt could have used Tubbo being a sussy double agent as a cover for his heterophobia, which would make it a hate crime.

counter argument: the birth of el rapids was NOT metaphorical. he explicitly stated that he gave birth to el rapids in the literal sense. ALSO there WAS a pregnancy that occurred between two men; dream and (either fundy or george).
since biological sex is canonically a concept that has no bearing in minecraft; pregnancy would not be limited to just heterosexual partners.
assuming that biological sex is a concept that applies to the dream smp would imply the existence of secondary sex characteristics. meaning omegaverse would be canon in the dream smp. so lets just assume the prior option is true.
Fair enough, sex doesn't exist in Minecraft, as confirmed by the developers.
But as homophobia in real life doesn't only affect gay people, do you really think that Schlatt would take two seconds to consider that this baby was from another man, or that he would jump straight to the conclusion that a guy very close to two straight people would be straight as well?
In this scenario, sexuality doesn't matter, because Schlatt would have performed a crime against someone he perceived to be of a certain sexuality, that sexuality being for him worthy of hatred.
In other words, a hate crime.
objection: once again you are thinking of this from a heteronormative perspective. this is a homonormative society. schlatt trusted tubbo and cared about him, although his affection was abusive in nature. he saw himself in tubbo.
he DID feel betrayed by tubbo for being a spy. tubbo's execution was not a hatecrime. his only hatecrime was against tommy and wilbur. tommy for working with wilbur, and wilbur for "turning straight" (its worth noting that wilbur and schlatt had dated prior to schlatts arrival to the dream smp. most likely in the water rising universe.)
schlatt is gay. schlatt saw himself in tubbo. he psychologically projected himself onto tubbo. he would have no reason to assume that tubbo is straight just because he had two straight friends. it should also be noted that schlatt gave tubbo time off for his pregnancy, so there were no heterophobic misconceptions at this time.
legally it would not be considered a hatecrime against tubbo, because he was a spy and was executed for being one. any claim of heterophobia would be thrown out the window, especially considering that tubbo is not straight.
