The old man in this drawing is not a wise one, for he was consumed by the misguided force of mankind. The undeniable result of our lifestyle is the detriment of the natural world - a place that has always provided for us. It will continue to do so, until the day we remove the stump with all its roots along with the beautiful life it gave the world.
I believe music is a window into the soul of both the creator and the listener. Depending on the artist, I develop a sense of closeness with them - manifested in a deep feeling that they are a close friend, mentor, or even a lover.
I was introduced to Kevin while visiting my backpacking soulmate, Brandon, in the Summer of 2015. Instantly, I connected to the easy pace and removed wonderment in his lyrics. As I became more invested in his discography, the more I felt his connection to the earth and his soul. He wishes to be known and yet retain his personal mystery. Conflicted, Summer of 2016 I had the opportunity to introduce myself - how rare for a listener to meet an artist they admire! After losing myself in his sparsely attended performance at a music festival, my friend pointed in Kevin’s direction as chatted with two of his friends with a hotdog in hand. “Go talk to him,” says my friend. I pause. “I can’t.” At the time, the feelings were inexplicable, but I didn’t want to mess up the bond that I have with him and his music. Although making myself known to him could have advanced the connection, it also possessed the potential to alter the connection in a way that removed what I found so compelling in the first place. Plus, I’ve heard he is slightly awkward, or “odd.”

Seems like he feels removed from others. I both appreciate and respect that. So much so that I’m glad I didn’t introduce myself. I like to think that I’ve had that same view from that mountain, and can empathize with his long travels through life. No need to mess with that.
False Peaks
Human nature leads us to set our goals in their ultimate form. Often, achievement of the goal is accompanied by deep feelings of satisfaction and knowing that one has reached an end. When external forces obscure the ultimate goal, panic will likely follow for the end is no longer in sight. Forced to look upon a lesser goal, we must not allow our minds to cloud with disappointment. What is in the foreground does exist and is embedded in the ultimate goal. Understand it to be both necessary and invaluable on the path to success. False peaks are in fact, peaks. Though they are not the True peak, an intimate understanding of their place in the grand scheme will reduce anxiety, disenchantment, and the likelihood of failure. All else considered, just take a step back and relish in the beauty of it all.
Few people travel here. There's no real profit to be made from wandering through it, yet like this high country of the material world all around us, it has its own austere beauty that to some people make the hardships of traveling through it seem worthwhile.
