Rurika Ashenmane Elementalist | Blood Legion Vigil Recruit | Blood Legion Soldier | Baker

“The elements bend to my command! But I’m still learning how to use them.”

“I finally found her. Legionnaire Ashengaze. My oldest friend. I’m glad all these wars over the years didn’t take her away from me.”

Former second-in-command of the Ashen warband, a veteran combat mage and healer. Blood Legion veterans often frowned at Rurika's use of magic, but her prowess and learned ability with the elements, combined with her own skill at using blades, proved them wrong. She grew up alongside Karr Ashengaze and they formed the Ashen warband together, pulling in other recruits who all shared something of then that was grey, like Karr's eyes or Rurika's mane. After the ambush that wiped out the Ashen warband, Rurika spent some time in an Iron Legion infirmary, during which time Karr left to seek her fortunes elsewhere. Rurika lost contact with her sworn sister and spent many years trying to find her again, but it wasn't until she joined the Vigil some time after Elona opened its doors that she learned that Legionnaire Ashengaze was now Warmaster Ashengaze. Rurika managed to contact her old Legionnaire and the two finally reunited under good circumstances. The elementalist now spends her time in Vigil Keep, finishing up her training so she can be deployed.

Takko the Fearless Warrior | College of Statics Mists Researcher | Golemancer | Swordsman

“I spent the last twenty years of my life fighting in the Mists, instead of researching it like civilised people. That shit isn’t something that doesn’t affect you. It changed me. It changes everyone in there. Don’t dedicate yourself to the wars in there unless you want your life to be about the fight.”

Erme Vidar's older brother, a dedicated Mists researcher and the toughest asura you'll ever meet. When Erme and his younger sister Larumi were still progeny, Takko was already a young adult, fresh out of college and looking for work. A krewe brought him into their fold, explaining that they were dedicated to studying the Mists and were preparing for an expedition there soon. He gathered some belongings and told his two siblings, before departing into the Mists. It would be twenty years before he returned. During that time, he would participate in many battles, lose members of his krewe to dangers within the Mists, and ultimately become lost, wandering the ebbs and flows of the Mists before he found a friend. Said friend would be a Norn, named Warrick Heimdall, and together they would discover a rift within the fabric of the Mists that spat them back out into Tyria. Takko tracked down his younger brother, now the leader of a krewe himself, and slowly put his life back together again. Now he works mostly as a consultant for his brother's golem building business, as well as hiring himself out as a sword for coin to the Vigil every now and then.

11) Erme: “Golly, I’ve never really flew into a rage at anyone. The last time I did that was when...my brother returned from the Mists. Well, I guess then abandoning me without any pretence at all would make me extremely angry.”

15) Erme: “I’m not sure, really. The entirety of the Arcane Council, I guess? It’s not anger so much as frustration at their bureaucracy and inner politics.”

Outlaw Brixx Engineer | College of Dynamics Ex-Peacekeeper | Ex-Inquest | Freelance Golemancer

“My talents are in the building of, maintaining of and designing of golems. Any sort or type, for any function, purpose or structure.”

“Yes, I worked with the Inquest. No, I didn’t know they were the Inquest at the time. I worked under false pretences, so I was technically working under duress. I’m sure you can see that I was the victim here, my talents used against my will even though I didn’t know it at the time.”

Former Peacekeeper, and ex-Inquest combat engineer, who was forcibly experimented on by the Inquest in an attempt to imbue her body with ley-line magic. The experiment failed, but it gave her CRD. Originally, Brixx was a Peacekeeper, having devoted her time in the College of Dynamics to the engineering of combat golems and exo-suits, but the politics of the Arcane Council, sending her and her exo-suit off to do their dirty work, it didn’t sit well with her. So she left, and her talents in building golems were quickly snapped up by the Inquest, who brought her in under the false pretense of building security golems for Rata Sum under a fake krewe. In reality, the “krewe” that she worked for had their hands in Inquest business, and her golem designs and models were used as automated combat golems to strike against other asura and their labs to steal their research. Once she found out, she was furious and attempted to escape, but they captured her and subjected her to a myriad of experiments, the last of which gave her CRD. Before they could experiment on her further, a mercenary group broke her out of her prison and escorted her to safety. It was later on that she found out that the leader of the group was Erme Vidar, a prominent golemancer in Rata Sum who tangled with the Inquest purely to rescue her talents and so he could study her case of CRD in earnest.

“My people lived under Joko for decades until you arrived. We’re strong enough.”

“At times, I wish I’d never picked up a sword. Or a book. Sure we were ruled over by monsters, but it was relatively peaceful. At least now, without Joko or Balthazar terrorising us, we’ll get true peace.”

An Elonian, serving as a quiet, if a tad cold, librarian within the Domain of Istan's Astralarium, who contracted CRD after an ill-fated encounter with a charged magical tome within the libraries of the Astralarium. Spending her life under Joko's rule, Lina yearned for a reprieve, especially since the books she read didn't paint the lich in a positive light. She, and many other historians and librarians, knew this, but kept their mouths shut as they didn't want to incur his wrath. Once the Pact Commander started fighting back against Balthazar and Joko's forces, Lina took her first real actions against the Awakened. She took up a sword in secret and soon found herself in league with the Sunspears' secret base on the island, slowly smuggling books and other anti-Joko literature out of the Astralarium. It wasn't until passage to Elona opened up and the Priory began their entry that she came into contact with the Tyrian historian, Alec Mason. He put her in touch with Erme, who happily drafted her into his krewe as their Elonian ambassador.

Corvus Steelhorn Thief | Ash Legion Ash Legion Spy | Order of Whispers Slayer | Sniper | Intelligence Agent

“Know what cannot be known. Seek what cannot be sought. That is the way of the Whispers.”

“It’s good to know I’m not a freak for these glowing arms. Knowing that others have them gives me a little comfort; at least I can have help from the others in the warband. Being alone with these arms was stressful, to say the least.”

A newly minted Ash Legion spy and marksman who contracted CRD from an ancient Ascalonian artifact, picked up during investigations and studies in league with the Iron Legion. Corvus Steelhorn took to rifles and subterfuge early on in his tenure in the Legions, so the Ash Legion was a good fit for him. He honed his skills in marksmanship and developed a talent for skulking around in the shadows, quietly listening and gathering intelligence, at which point he was approached by an agent of the Order of Whispers, a clandestine organisation that he eagerly joined. His skills and talents as a marksman didn't go unnoticed, earning him the rank of Slayer, dispatched to quell threats discreetly all across Tyria. At some point during his time in the Whispers, he took part and fought during the war against Mordremoth, followed shortly by requesting to go to Amnoon to assist local relief efforts. All his work almost won him a promotion to Lightbringer, but one person stopped him: Erme Vidar. Through the grapevine, the newly promoted Lightbringer offered to mentor Corvus and took him into the Radiants as an extra marksman to add to their ranks, showing the charr ways to conceal his glowing arms and to push his skills in subterfuge and intelligence gathering past his limits.

Mortemnus Necromancer | Cycle of Night | Shield of the Moon Wanderer | Priory Explorer

“This world is so beautiful, yet so deadly. Death permeates the land, every inch of it, and I can feel it in my fingertips, the tingling numbness at the edge of life.”

“If it weren’t for the guidance of those around me, I don’t think I would’ve survived this long, being a wandering swordsman. I just thank the Pale Tree I wasn’t born when the jungle dragon was still alive. Goodness knows I would’ve caved and become an enemy of man.”

A freshly born sylvari with an innate talent for manipulating death magic and raising the dead. Born just a year before Elonian refugees began streaming into Tyria and Balthazar started to ravage the Crystal Desert, Mortemnus awoke at the base of the Pale Tree with arms that were glowing bright purple. His Dream showed him images of death and him in the center of it, controlling reanimated monsters made of flesh and darkness. It also showed him an image of another sylvari, darker in hue, who seemed to be mentoring him in controlling this new magic. Emboldened by the vision, he set out to find this mysterious sylvari, and found him in the form of a wanderer named Alasdair Idris. He taught Mortemnus about the basics of necromancy and gave him a goal: to master the arts of raising the dead and to use them for good. It was only later on, when news reached Erme of a wandering swordsman with glowing purple arms and the ability to raise the dead, did he bring Mortemnus into his krewe.

Warrick Heimdall Revenant | Spirit of Raven Carpenter | Order of Whispers Slayer | Hunter 

“I may not be the best hunter in Hoelbrak, but I’m damn good at it.”

“Getting trapped in the Mists...having these voices in my head, it’s an experience. Although I am uncomfortable with more than my own thoughts clamoring for attention, at least I’m not trapped within those forsaken Mists again. I’ll live with the voices.”

The younger brother of Norrin Heimdall, but an equal to her in almost every right. An experienced tracker and hunter, Warrick was often the sibling who brought home food and supplies when her sister was off in the higher mountains, communing with the Spirits of the Wild. They were a close-knit family, after their parents passed away of age. Warrick took it upon himself to take care of his sister while she took on the duties as a Shaman. But an unfortunate exploration route gone too far put him in trouble with the Sons of Svanir, and they chased him deep into the mountains. Without markers or routes, Warrick was lost. He near froze to death, if not for the tear into the Mists that opened and swallowed him whole. The norn spent months wandering the Mists, looking for a way out, when he stumbled upon an equally lost Mists researcher named Takko. With the asura's help, they found another tear in the fabric of the Mists and escaped from there, reuniting with their families, but contracting CRD in the process. Erme eventually pulled Warrick into his krewe, where he resides as the resident carpenter and hunter.

Frikcha the Nomad Guardian | College of Statics Ex-Vigil Warmaster | Wanderer | Combat and Physical Fitness Trainer

“Shut up and shape up, or shut up and shove off!”

“Rough and tough was the way I raised myself. I’ve seen so many batches of recruits through Vigil training that I’ve lost count. These men and women need to be tough to survive and excel in the Vigil, and the only way they’re going to do that is to get through me.”

The name Frikcha brings out many things if said around any Vigil soldier old enough to remember her. A no nonsense, hard-as-nails, rough and tough drill instructor that the Vigil had never seen before. A swordswoman through and through, Frikcha used her asuran smarts in the wrong way, in the eyes of the Arcane Council; instead of applying her brains to inventing and building, she took it to the gladiator pits. Her swordsmanship became unbeatable for a time within the darker Rata Sum fighting rings, until she decided she'd had enough of aimless fighting. She took her sword to the Vigil, rose through the ranks and became the lead Warmaster that oversaw the training of new recruits in Vigil Keep.

This was around the time that she led a new batch of rookies that included two specific charr: Karr Ashengaze and Tael Grimclaw. Her mentorship inadvertently led the duo to realise their own talents and go on to serve well in their own fields. But then war loomed on the horizon, the war against Zhaitan. As the Vigil geared up for battle and engaged in bloody war, the mental stress of command didn't take in her head. After the war was over, she announced that she was resigning and left on a journey of self discovery. The asura ended up in Maguuma, seeking wisdom from those that had come before her, and stumbled upon Exalted ruins deep within the jungle. Meditating and looking into herself led her to discover her latent magical talent as a guardian: a stalwart warrior who commanded protection magic. The discovery also led her to contract CRD as a result of her breakthrough causing a surge of magical energy through her body. It was much later that Karr came looking for her and took her into Erme's krewe as their combat instructor and tactician.

Tael Grimclaw Engineer | Iron Legion Vigil Sergeant | Iron Legion Sergeant | Emergency Medical Technician | Medical Engineer | Big Softie

“D’you smell fish? Cause I sure smell fish. I love eatin’ fish. Loads of ways to cook fish, got fish gumbo, fish stew, grilled fish...”

“You need someone to drag you out from a trench under siege and patch up all your bullet holes? That’s me. Bleeding out from a stab wound? You call for me. Burned by a Forged? I’m your charr. If there’s one thing I know the best, that’s taking care of people. I don’t know medicine that well, but I know enough to keep you from dying. And when everything’s gone to hell? Me and my men are the only people who can keep you going.”

Tael Grimclaw. Medic, leader of some men and a foodie beyond compare. The boisterous, kind and caring black-furred charr spent his time as a cub and a soldier in the Iron Legion being ridiculed for his love for food and the time he spent fussing over machines. During his tenure in the Iron Legion, he developed a hand for medicine, assisting the Legion's medics and healers with custom-made machines of his own design. After barely tolerating ribbing from the others in his warband, he left the Iron Legion and joined the Vigil, where he met a tan-furred charr named Karr Ashengaze. The two served together during their time in the Vigil, although Karr was on the fast track to leadership while he preferred to spend time within the order's medical battalions, teaching other engineers and medics how to construct the machines he'd made to take better care of people. It was during this period that an accident occurred when he crossed some wires in a pump that contained a mix of herbs and tonics. The explosive energy, combined with the healing mixture within, created a magical fire that engulfed his workshop. He came out of it with singed fur and mild burns, but his hands and arms were awash with a bright pink glow. His ensuing CRD led both him and Karr to Erme's krewe, where he's served as their resident medical technician ever since.
