Today officially marks 12 years since I made my second charr, Kaela Shadowpaw -- Thief and eventual Deadeye! Wild how time flies!
Had only played her off-and-on alongside my main at the time, but around Heart of Thorns she clicked with me. Since then, she's been my main through today! I think it's really neat how characters you create can have such an impact on your life, in more than one way.
Kaela's grown from just a character I made to essentially become my fursona (at least one of the main ones) - and she's even subconsciously influenced what I wear, haha! I noticed years later that she wore a cadet cap years before I started to, and now I wear a lot more olive and tan! (and my own blue and coin necklace have made it onto her over the years as well!)
I was so unbelievably stoked when Deadeye was announced way back in Path of Fire - the match was perfect and she's been my main ever since!
I've also been wonderfully lucky to get to see her brought to life by so many great artists over the years; including @vateo, pur-fox, my friend Savy (BubblySheep), @guildwuff2 - and plenty of others! ^^ Thank you to all the artists and creators who help realize our characters - it really means a lot!
Never thought I'd ever be able to get the chance to stream and run around VR as a Charr as well - until I stumbled across the Dragoncat by Ashera! To say I was excited is an understatement! :3c Did a little work on my own and now I can get just a liiittle closer to being her!
It's been such a blast being able to express myself more and more through her. I have no doubt that she's continue to be a big part of me. Thank you to ANet for makin' a game that a lot of folks, myself included, could connect with -- and thanks to all you folks in the GW2 for the inspiration and being awesome to interact with! :3 (Even though I mostly lurk: you know, Ash Legion and all that!)
Thanks for readin' if you did! Just wanted to ramble a bit~!
Name(s): Renwick Dreamguard
Age: ~70
Gender: Male
Sexuality: Gay
Warband: Dream (Legionnaire)
Affiliation: The Mesmer Collective (Tenth Veil), Iron Legion, Ash Legion (formerly)
Profession: Oneirologist (the scientific study of dreams) and general Mesmer Collective connection for the Iron Legion
A mesmer with a penchant for dreams. The last man you want to fall asleep near. Awkward and physically disabled, this man's stutter and anxious-appearing nature hides just how tricky and deadly he can truly be.
Random facts:
He has full control over dreams, and can make you see anything he wants, though he often prefers to just watch and see what happens
LOVES candy and other sweets, perhaps one of his few true weaknesses
No, he's not nervous; he's just got a stutter! (though he probably is nervous too)
He won't look at YOUR dreams... he promises! ;)
He's insomniac and so, so tired. Please be patient. He's trying!
Did you know he can make your heart stop while you're sleeping, resulting in a simple, mostly painless death, and there's nothing you could do to stop him? He just thought that was interesting.
Avid collector of fantasy fiction, as well as the erotic kind. His favorites are the ones about heroes and villains, light and darkness, fighting for their ideals.
Not asexual, but not too interested in "the real deal" either. Would rather read a book or make his sexual partners dream of things he wants to see.
Horrible self-esteem, even to this day. You almost wonder if he continues his studies because he still doesn't feel like he's good enough.
While only a Legionnaire technically, he is loved enough by Imperator Kindleshot that he's got the influence of a Tribune, much to the dismay of men like Tribune Goreblade, who insist she's "playing favorites".
Backstory under the cut.
(this blog is being converted to a general OC blog, though Bhuer and Erracus will of course still be posted about, just so will all my other boys and girls!)
Renwick Dreamguard was born in the Ash Legion homelands. However, due to his vocal stutter and physical disabilities, he was seen as a hopeless runt, incapable of performing up to standards of what Ash soldiers should be. His fahrar mates, and especially his Primus, constantly belittled him, insisting his he'd better learn to be useful somehow, or he'd be deadweight and abandoned.
Renwick, unable to meet the standards of his Legion and warband, used escapism as a coping mechanism. From a young age, he became fascinated by the world of dreams; due to his insomnia, he never had a dream himself, but wanted so badly to see them for himself. Thanks to texts he found, he was able to learn how to peer inside others dreams with mesmer magic. He spent his restless nights from them on perfecting his craft, watching others' dreams, and even learning how to influence them.
When the time came to leave the fahrar, no warband wanted him; his skill set was seen as pointless, and his disabilities made him viewed as a burden. Renwick, abandoned and feeling defeated, left the Ash Legion, heading to Lion's Arch.
In LA, he furthered his craft, experimenting on unsuspecting guests at inns. He spent years working odd-jobs, struggling to find a place for himself. Eventually, he tried to view the dreams of a Mesmer Collective member, who saw what he was doing and had never seen someone this powerful at this field of magic. He was invited to the collective, and given access to even more texts to study.
His time spent in the Mesmer Collective was not wasted, and over time he became one of the most powerful mesmers in Tyria period, a true force to be reckoned with. He finally felt as though he belonged, and he was safe to be himself.
One day, he was asked if he would like to work for the Iron Legion, as Imperator Kindleshot was wanting a connection to the Mesmer Collective. She also seemed interested in his work. His time in the Ash Legion made him wary of returning to the Legions, but for once in his life, he felt brave and decided to take the plunge.
While sad his Legion he was born into never fully accepted him back, the Iron Legion made him feel at home, and invited him to form his own warband. Renwick formed a small warband, looking to recruit others like him; oddballs with specific skill sets.
He now spends his time in the Black Citadel as the go-to man for all things Mesmer related. He continues his studies, on a never-ending quest for knowledge. You can find him in his small office in the Imperator's Core, likely reading a book, filing paperwork, or trying (and failing) to take a nap.
Alei Sorrowscream, Charr Willbender
yo, a smol doodle to let you know I'm still out there and still love charr!!
also i'm leaving for a week and am hyped to travel (and not work) again hehe
take care!
Found this on Google but this is how I imagine the Ash Legion homeland's cities look
A vast underground city with many paths and tunnels leading to many places, the ash legion homelands is secret to all who are not ash and are fiercely protected. This is not the only city as there are many like it, but it is the oldest and largest by far
I feel like there are a lot of decoy towns and outposts
Side view photos taken by McKinley Massacre of me wearing @GuildWars2 charr Hildr Scourgedatter as received from Temperance of @Komickrazi Studios before mods. That is my actual waist, and a large padding pillow gives that rounded upper back shape, along with chest padding that substantially bulks up the upper body, and more padding in the upper arms and shoulders.
Thanks to everyone who commented on previous posts. This charr cosplay was originally made in 2013 and I will include some history in future posts.
