Drunk Baking

A couple of days ago I decided to get drunk and try my hand at making cake from scratch, just to see what I can accomplish. The turnout was not bad! Kids under 19 or 21 don't try this! lol. This is a homemade chocolate cake with homemade chocolate butter cream frosting! on top, I dipped strawberries in melted chocolate, covered them in icing sugar and placed them on top, and piped some swirls.  The cake turned ot super moist and delicious!

Inspiration

I have been having a lot of fun with baking and letting myself learn new things. Today, I practiced simple border techniques for cakes. I used some crappy store bought icing just to waste on practicing designs and layed out some parchment paper and went to town.

Unfortunaly I forgot to take pictures, but I was so proud of myself for being able to pick up the shell technique really quickly, learning how to makea ruffled border with the same wilton #18 star tip, as well as learning to do a rope border.

I have been really surpised with myself at how little time has passed and how much I am realising just how much I love my new hobby. This is odd to me, because I am the type of person who gets caught up in something and quits. I find myself wanting to bake something new every day.

I suppose it doesnt help that I work in a bakery. I love my job and couldnt imagine myself working anywhere else for the time being. It is a lot of work but it feels worth it because I feel like I am getting closer to finding my career.

Anyway, I dont know if anyone actually sees this but I hope that as you are reading this, you are finding your inspiration to do the things you love.

I hope that you too can find joy in the simple things in life and I wish you the best of luck with finding a career if you dont already have one.

Spend the day with my sister making panda cupcakes. This was inspired from a picture we saw on tumblr, and although ours didnt look as professional they were fun to make anyway. :)

My best friend came over and on top of a delicious dinner we decided to bake a cake. This was my first time layering a cake so I was pretty excited about it :) I made a chocolate cake with cream cheese-peanutbutter filling, topped with chocolate ganache and reese peanutbutter cups. It was devoured :D

MMM Cupcakes!

I made some awesome cupcakes today :D I used store icing since I didnt have enough shortening to make homade, also it was getting kind of late. Tomorrow I will deliver them to the pub for the staff to enjoy :) I love fattening people up!
