The fight has been fought, the Dark Lord and his followers victorious, and so the reign of terror has commenced.

There is no mercy for those who stood against them, who stand against them still. The trials are a farce, a façade of justice more of a cruel joke than anything. It all started with the whisperings of a prophecy, a boy who would be born in the Summer of 1980 who would one day otherthrow The Dark Lord. One killed, still in the womb along with the mother. The other death of a child, but a babe, his father killed also on the night they were to be transported. A grieving mother, the shell of the bright young woman that she once was, and a man unrecognisable to all who knew him is all that is left behind. So many casualties, by products of a terrible war. For there was never really any hope for them, especially following the death of their co-leader, Alastor Moody. Some say Kingsley Shacklebolt’s hand was forced after Alastor’s death, others say that he simply lost hope. Either way, Shacklebolt is adamant that the Order is no longer, it’s certainly not under his helm these days.

SPRING 1981

Fast forward to the Spring of 1981 and Orion Black is Minister of Magic, appointed by the Dark Lord himself to ensure that his terrible reign can continue unhindered by the authorities. All those in the magical community have been assigned a code of access, this code holds more value than currency for it is loyalty that The Dark Lord esteems the most. The Order of the Phoenix has been dissipated, scattered by the might of Lord Voldemort and his followers. For to be associated with any group that seeks to usurp His reign is punishable by death. There are whisperings of surviving Order of the Phoenix members, some hiding in an undisclosed location others in plain sight. The truth is that they’ve set up camp in the countryside, with many still living in London, brave enough to act as spies, others simply happy to be alive. The community lives in constant paranoia, for you can’t truly know friend or foe. The golden years of the marauders seem so long ago, with two in hiding, one seeking refuge with the enemy and one gone forever. It’s up to you as to where your alliances align. For those with purer blood, you could easily live a life of comfort and prestige; halfbloods can get by if you keep your head down and remain obedient; muggleborns must prove their loyalty to the ministry, but it’s not impossible.

Darkest Dawn is a new literate, character and plot driven roleplay set in the era of the marauders. We are an AU set in 1981, three years following the marauders’ graduation from Hogwarts. We are centered around the end of the first Wizarding war where Voldemort and his followers have won and Orion Black has just been appointed Minister of Magic. The Order of the Phoenix is currently scattered and without leadership.

Marauders Era || Circa 2017

With Albus Dumbledore dead for the last twenty years, the Wizarding World has changed dramatically during a time of peace, a time where children were not in regular fear for their families and parents didn’t fear for the lives of their children. It hasn’t changed the current Minister of Magic, Bartholomew Southwark, who has spent his campaign advocating for dramatic change within the Ministry – both internal and tougher laws about Muggle-Borns and a registry for any Veela’s, Vampires, Werewolves, ect. it has now caused the Ministry to implode within itself, many of the employees objecting and encouraging the changes.

The previous summer resulted in a riot though during a rally that Minister Southark put on, the result of which was young Peter Pettigrew’s death, throwing Hogwarts into the budding war for the first time. With social media prevalent in the school, there is little that the Ministry is able to do to hide the tumultuous climate in the Wizarding World from the students and adults alike, there are sides that are being chosen while there are whispers of Death Eaters returning to the Wizarding World and little idea as to who is leading them.

my FAVORITE tropes compiled thanks to some suggestions from others

a character gets a sick burn and doesn’t realize it immediately, at some point later there’s just “HEY WAIT A MINUTE”

the double take. this one’s an oldie but a goodie

the injured character makes the killing shot that saves everyone else in a dangerous situation

a character who isn’t speaking is doing something weird in the background, it’s subtle and never acknowledged it’s just there for those who notice it (pulling another character out of something they got stuck in, making a huge sandwich, etc)

the beleaguered assistant inches away from smacking their boss

“quick act natural”

in that vein, the leader character was just in a shouting match with someone and when they come back the rest of the team scrambles to look like they weren’t listening at the door

never forget: “he’s standing right behind me isn’t he”
