▪️Cau and Lu ▪️Hiena - Strong jaws so they can eat bones - Females are bigger - Matriarcal system! ▪️Elephant (10 years old) - Males don't stay in the herd - 6 sets of teeth and the lasts ones comes up when they are 45 years old - They will die not because of old age but depending on their teeth. At Savannah where they eat from branches and trees their last set of teeth will last until they are 60-65 years old - Comunicante trough low infrasound that can travel for kilometers - Stays 3-4 years with cuff - Pregnant for 22 months ▪️Cabrino Aranha family + Monica and Foster ▪️Baby Giraffe on the right less than 3 weeks old because the umbilical cord is still there Interesting facts: - When vultures are 1 km up in the sky they can see anything that has 10cm - Windy days are an advantage to the predators because it affects the impalas and other animals senses of hearing and smell

DAY 1 - Afternoon Game Drive ▪️Giraffe - Stays with mother for 2 years - May find 1 or 20 together - Major predator: lion ▪️Buffalo - Herd might have 100-200 - Male has sort of helmet with the horn ▪️Hippopotamus - Spends the day in the water and can stay under it for 5-6 minutes - Outer layer of skin is really delicate so the water helps by not letting it heat up - Has territories in and outside the water ▪️Leopard - Solitary and difficult to find - Has rosette pattern - Stays with cubs for 2 years - Lives for about 19/20 years

DAY 1 - Arriving at Kruger National Park 16/07/17 - Kapama Game Reserve
Overlooking the African Savannah, we finally arrived at Hoedspruit’s airport!
A small airport where we met our ranger Monica from Kapama Private Game Reserve. 
In the 20 minute ride from the airport to Buffalo Camp we got to meet impalas, gnu or wildebeast, hornbull and warthogs also known as Zuzu and Pumba from lion king, vervet monkeys, goshawk, zebra and mongoose. Arriving at buffalo camp we met the people who would accompany us for the following safari journey. Our games would be guided by Monica (ranger) and Foster (tracker).

Creation seems to come out of imperfection. It seems to come out of a striving and a frustration and this is where I think language came from. I mean, it came from our desire to transcend our isolation and have some sort of connection with one another. And it had to be easy when it was just simple survival. Like you know, "water." We came up with a sound for that. Or saber tooth tiger right behind you. We came up with a sound for that. But when it gets really interesting I think is when we use that same system of symbols to communicate all the abstract and intangible things that we're experiencing. What is like... frustration? Or what is anger or love? When I say love, the sound comes out of my mouth and it hits the other person's ear, travels through this byzantine conduit in their brain through their memories of love or lack of love, and they register what I'm saying and they say yes, they understand. But how do I know they understand? Because words are inert. They're just symbols. They're dead, you know? And so much of our experience is intangible. So much of what we perceive cannot be expressed. It's unspeakable. And yet you know, when we communicate with one another and we feel that we have connected and we think that we're understood I think we have a feeling of almost spiritual communion. And that feeling might be transient, but I think it's what we live for.
