Lord of the Rings

I recently started reading Lord of the Rings for the first time, and omg it’s amazing!! I am currently halfway through Two Towers (no spoilers pls) and I am hooked! I am so in awe of Tolkien’s world building, there is so much lore evident in every conversation that is had. I especially love the friendship between Legolas and Gimli, I feel like every conversation that they have is so revealing of Elvish and Dwarfish culture. It’s evident why their species’ have had differences because they are naturally drawn towards opposite things, but I think that as the friendship between Legolas and Gimli progresses and evolves, the future relationships between all elves and dwarfs evolves as well. Idk if I’m communicating this properly, but essentially, I think that their friendship will change the relationship between all elves and dwarfs, for the better, in the long run.

I also love hobbits!! Maybe it’s just my inner hufflepuff talking, but I feel like of all the creatures in Middle Earth I am definitely most like a hobbit (but I guess that’s what a lot of people think??). They are so kind and pure and just love all the small, but truly wonderful things in life. My fav so far is definitely Sam. Sam is a precious bb that needs to be protected, and all he wants to do is help his friend out. I haven’t gotten to the part in Two Towers yet that’s describing Sam and Frodo’s journey, so maybe that will change my opinion on things, but I like Sam more than Frodo so far, because he is just so. damn. earnest. And I love it

One of my favorite lines so far is from Fellowship, when Gandalf says something along the lines of (and I’m going to paraphrase horribly here) ‘Great minds like myself and Elrond can see the actions and events that need to take place for change to happen. But it is the little hands that get a revolution going’ I think that is such a beautiful line, and I think about it so much. 

Okay that’s all for now on the lotr front, but I am loving the books so far and I am so! excited! to see what happens next. aaahhhhhhh

I’m excited

I am very excited to see how my family will grow and change as I age. I am Indian, and born and raised in the U.S, so my parents and most my family members that are of their generation who are now in the U.S. lived in India until they were in their 20s. This is pretty common for Indian families who live in the U.S. now because Indians didn’t really immigrate to the U.S. before then. I am sooo excited to see how our culture will continue with us in this new land, and how the country changes as well. I am ready for Indian animators and politicians and designers and storytellers. Our history and culture are so rich and I can’t wait to see how our ideas will spice up the melting pot (excuse the horrible pun). I know that America has a strange and bloody history, and we have a long way to go still, but I do genuinely believe that there is a unique sense of innovation, entrepreneurial spirit, and willingness to adapt that in deeply woven into culture here. So yes, I am very excited for the future, and the many changes it will bring to all of us

Magic in the world

I wonder what things that happen on Earth would seem magical to outsiders? Would it be a dark rectangle we pull from out pockets that can respond and interact with us? Would it be the control over temperature we have, being able to escape the scorching sun by going into a collection of walls and hand-picking the temperature we want it to feel like? Would it be the grace with which a lion can catch its prey, or feeling of dew causing the grass to stick to their feet first think in the morning. Would it be machinery that can kill hundreds thousands millions of people in an instant, or would it be the genuine compassion that seems to radiate off of some people and light up their surroundings? Maybe it’s all of these things, maybe it’s none of them. But I do believe that the magic is there

Why do I want to create?

Through this blog I want to come closer to finding an answer to this question. I know that I want to be a creator and that I want my work to help people build connections with one another. But that’s a really vague reason. As of right now, I am not completely sure why. I know that I don’t want to be a novelist, but I do love writing. I think I want to create platforms for other people to be able to share their writing more easily, but I don’t really know what that would look like. I have always been very fascinated with mythology and how its role in society is changing as technology evolves and traditional methods of storytelling adapt with it. 

But I also think that I might want to create in a more political sphere sometimes. It would be very interesting to create methods for people to engage differently with their politicians, or maybe update how legislators increase awareness about their actions? 

I know that I want to do something to bring emphasis back to the power of the written word, and I know that I love storytelling and the connections it brings about in people of all walks of life. Other than that, it is pretty clear that I don’t know exactly what I want to create or who I want to serve with my work/writing. Hopefully, writing more will help me realize what I want to do, and why I want to create. If any of you guys have any suggestions or thoughts based of what I just said, please share them with me! I am definitely in a place to learn more from anyone and everyone willing!

First Post

Hi all! This is a writing blog that I started because I need to write more, and I need somewhere to put that writing. This will be a bit of everything–my thoughts on how technological advancements are changing the world, fiction I write, analysis on random things in my life, that kind of stuff. I am about to start my freshman year of college, and am (as of right now) an aspiring double major in Creative Writing and Computer Science. Writing advice and questions about my posts are welcome and appreciated!
