tell us more about the klappertaart story? <3
Deeeddd, are you for real 😂 Thanks so much for your interest! Again, it's an original story, not a fanfic, so... yeah I appreciate it so much.
Where do I even start... so uhh, based on the old documents I found, it's really just a rough draft and collection of random scenes. No real story skeleton yet.
The title is Als de orchideeën bloeien, taken from a song.
Set in 1940s Indonesia (pre-independence and throughout the revolutionary years).
The MCs are two men from opposing factions: Jansen Michiels van den Berg (I chose the most Dutch name I could think of 😭) and Rangga Wirasasmita.
Jansen: Son of a wealthy Dutch businessman. Born and raised in Batavia (old name for Jakarta). Speaks Dutch, Indonesian, English, and even understands Javanese. Has two older brothers named Johan and Jacob. Often feels overshadowed by his brothers. Competitive and wants to prove himself. Peacocky personality but actually sensitive and insecure. Good at business and numbers. Loves Indonesian food but too prideful to admit it in front of Rangga.
Rangga: Son of a noble family. Born and raised in Bandung. Well-learnt. Model student type. Speaks Dutch, Indonesian, English, Sundanese, Javanese, and a bit of Japanese. Usually calm but can be very sharp and short-fused when annoyed (and Jansen annoys him a lot). Has a twin sister named Rengga whom he's protective of. She's even smarter than him and better at strategic thinking. Good at history, etiquette, and diplomatic talks (but somehow Jansen just pisses him off). Loves Dutch pastries but too prideful to admit it in front of Jansen.
In short, they're stoopid prideful fellas who were forced to work together to defeat a common enemy, then realising they care for each other more than they wanted to admit.
Jansen's Dutch faction that wants to reclaim Indonesia from the Japanese, was forced to work with Rangga's faction which was helping the local Indonesians prepare for the country's independence. This was because they were facing a bigger enemy. In my drafts though... I was undecided what the "bigger enemy " was. I even wrote that it might be something supernatural (what genre is even this 😭).
I was also very ambitious that I wanted their conversations to be a mixture of Dutch, Indonesian, and English. In their first meeting, Jansen kept speaking Dutch, while Rangga kept speaking Indonesian, both perfectly understanding each other and insulting each other. Until it escalated into an almost-fight, and the mediator had to step in and say "let's speak English".
Yeah... that's what I have for now hahah. And a collection of odd sentences and scenes like my Klappertart one. :'D
