Update on Misce+ Website!

Salutations all! I come bringing good updates and such. The website is receiving a lot of love, which I am so appreciative of. I want this to get people excited in the community! I have lots more work to do, and I unfortunately work 40+ hours a week. So expect more updates on the website's finality closer to next Wednesday. For now, here is the WIP of the website!

I need to edit paragraphs, add graphics (if I am able to for carrd. I maxed out the elements at one point.) Overall this has been a really rather wonderful experience with lots of fun to it. I need to compile links for credits/secondary(/And primary) sources of the community's start. I also need to compile resources for the Misce+ lifestyle. I know it looks choppy, but the links all work so that's all that matters to me. The vocabulary tag will be the longest thing in this whole set of links and such. Which, massive pain. But that's alright. The tedious work is always- well, tedious. If there are people with open discord servers for the Misce+ community PLEASE reach out, I'd like to compile some servers that are semi-active and chatty. I might start my own as a compilation for this particular website, but, alas, I am terrible at making discord servers and moderating them. This also might lead into some google slides admittedly for each sub-gender. This has become a much larger beast than I imagined, but the support has been ever great.

Now i think about it ive genuinely only had like 2.5 negative interactions wearing gear in public (out of the dozen-ish times i have done it. Possibly more or less idk). One of them might not even count.

- got barked at on halloween for wearing my mask and tail (lmfao hello??? halloween😭😭)

- had some group of kids mockingly tell me "nice tail" or something as i walked by in ears and a tail. Also i might have been filmed by someone in the same day??? but idk i couldn't tell for sure. Tbh tho the area of my city i picked that day probably wasn't the optimal place to go out in gear anyway

I don't think i have much a hispanic following but i need to say, if you haven't already heard, BE SO INCREDIBLY CAREFUL IF YOURE IN LATIN AMERICA OR SPAIN. Holy FUCK

I've just seen that the alterhuman community over there is facing a LOT of harassment and bullying. I've seen images and videos of FULL CROWDS in the streets surrounding and targeting young therians. I just saw a video of a therian being ASSAULTED while everyone was recording and laughing. They are organizing FAKE meetups in order to attack therians.

I wear my gear in public because i feel safe enough in my area to do so, and i always think about when and where i feel safe enough to wear it before going out. PLEASE do not jeopardize your safety. even if you're not going to any of those "meetups'', i'm sure those people will also harass any therians in gear passing by. And because nobody outside the communities knows the difference, this warning extends to kemonomimis, otherpaws, and furries.

If you are in a safe enough area to go out in your gear then by all means definitely do!! it's fun!!! But PLEASE be cautious otherwise ESPECIALLY if you're in a spanish speaking country right now

Snow Leopard Leaps Nearly 30 Feet

Look at this fantastic pounce by a snow leopard! We often get videos of athleticism in domestic cats, rarely for bigger ones. You can see how that huge tail helps counterbalance the leap in mid-air. This is a great example of enrichment that encourages natural behavior, too.

There is more than one category of phantoms, namely Supernumerary Phantom Limbs (and other phantom sensations) which is what phantom shifts are referring to and is also a scientifically recognized phenomenon. Phantom sensations also commonly occur for transgender people. It is by no means an exclusive phenomenon and can have multiple causes outside of losing a body part and can manifest in ways outside of phantom limb (or organ) pain. It is also recognized that phantom sensations can even be induced, IE: the very famous Rubber Hand Illusion experiments.

Also the biggest survey in the alterhuman community (with over 1200 responses) found that alterhuman phantom experiences mirror transgender, amputee, and organ loss/removal phantom experiences in obstacle shunning and similar facets. People in the community who have more commonly understood human phantom experiences also didn't typically find the use of the phantom medical language offensive or inaccurate by alterhumans, and several people said they found their experiences of human and non-human phantoms identical. I agree with the additions to this thread from Dino and Page: they're both accurate to what I have seen in the medical literature and in my original research. I also appreciate the original poster's wish to be thoughtful toward people who have limb differences.

The survey collected these insights from respondents who themselves had had amputations of human body parts:

None of them complained about the words "phantom limb" being used to refer to sensations of nonhuman body parts. Not a single one of them said it was offensive or should be stopped.

The most common name that they themselves preferred for sensations of nonhuman body parts was "phantom limb."

Most of them said their sensations of nonhuman body parts felt similar to their sensations of lost human body parts.

Of the people who had had human limbs or extremities amputated, 50% said their sensations of nonhuman body parts felt exactly the same as their sensations of lost human body parts.

Where did the idea come from that it's offensive to people who have had amputations or limb differences, then? They're not the ones saying it. It's a baseless rumor, and it's contradicted by the data.

No one should have to disclose their medical history to win an internet argument or to beg permission to use a word for their own personal sensations. Regardless of someone's medical history, if they say that alterhumans should not use the words "phantom limb" for their sensations of nonhuman body parts, that is arguably an anti-alterhuman attitude.

Saying that these don't count as phantom limbs is similar to other tactics of exclusionism, medicalism, and respectability politics that we see dividing many other groups among themselves. Those tactics separate out some experiences from within the wide range of phenomena as being too strange to be taken as seriously as another subset. They're based in fear that the association will cause the more serious subset to be taken less seriously too, and therefore that the more painful cases might not find useful treatments or understanding from the public. In reality, a more complete and useful understanding of a subject comes from looking at its full range: the cases that are painful or consistent with expectations from better-known studies, as well as the cases that are benign or odd.

The survey data confirms that phantoms of amputated human body parts more often tend to be painful or distressing than phantoms of naturally different human body parts or phantoms of nonhuman parts. However, it also revealed that severe pain in the latter exists too, and their treatment never been formally studied. Non-painful and even enjoyable cases are also inadequately studied and could offer perspective for better addressing and easing painful ones. Including and exploring these other subsets of phantom limb phenomena will bring more useful information for everyone in understanding, treating, and living with these experiences. We can all learn the most if we can share and listen to one another.

I think that as a community we need to address the sexism that is extremely prevalent in the community and the continual ignorance of these issues

I feel like every time I see a post about ESPECIALLY the sexism there’s so much “oh but there’s no visibility of the trans men-“ but the thing is i don’t think I ever see posts by women

And that’s not to say that trans men don’t deserve representation, or nonbinary people, or anyone else, but there’s definitely issues

Also the fact that nobody is above the issues in this community. You are not above being responsible for turning a blind eye against this kind of thing

hugging my friends/teammates is a very euphoric experience, potentially because I don’t have many friends who are very open with contact (which is their choice n boundary) so having teammates who do love physical contact like hugs is amazing. I have the ability to initiate contact without feeling awkward bc a lot of teammates are also very physically affectionate, n in my gear I feel a bit more disconnected so it’s not very physically uncomfortable if I feel weird
