The KQ rep confirming with Yunho over the phone that he broke up with his long-term girlfriend is upsetting to me, because the reported timing of the breakup (three months ago) coincides with that breakup post on a Naver blog that was purported to have been written by Yunho's ex. My heart broke for her when I read it because, while interpretations of her post vary, I believe most of her suffering was NOT self-inflicted.
To be clear, nobody knows for sure whether it's Yunho's ex who wrote it or whether it's about him. But I (personally) am convinced that she wrote it, and that it was about Yunho. The recent media coverage has dished information that fits her post too well for me to think otherwise. I won't go into why I'm convinced. I'm not interested in convincing people about why I was convinced of something that can't be known or proven.
The point is, this basically ruins any enjoyment I got out of being a hotteok because the 'ooh, what's he hiding beneath his opaque impenetrable facade' and joking about him being a bad boy beneath the carefully controlled exterior, is not so fun anymore when real people have been hurt.
The charitable reading of his persona has been that it's a carefully crafted buffer between his self and the world for maximum people-pleasability. The uncharitable reading has been that it's manipulative and insincere. But both readings were just fun fandom frolics for me. Until now, that is. Now it's gotten too real. Again, to be clear, there's no way to know whether that post is really about him or whether it all just coincidentally fits him and the information in the latest media missives. But because I personally believe her post is true, fangirling over him isn't fun for me anymore.
This sucks for me, but I've been a k-pop fangirl long enough to know that I'll soon find something else to imprint on. In the meanwhile I just wanted to give my atiny friends here a heads-up that I'm going to be filtering out Ateez and Yunho-related tags on tumblr.
I'm not hating or accusing anyone of anything (because like I said I DON'T KNOW the truth, nobody does!) I wish I didn't believe any of this either because it certainly would be easier on me emotionally. It sounds dramatic to say I'm grieving but I truly am just going through it right now, it's actually depressing. Losing something I enjoyed and relied on for inspiration and happy chemicals is just sucky. Maybe I should be grateful this comeback isn't my cup of tea because it'll make it easier to let go, I don't know.
