i think a big thing people kinda mischaracterize abt richie and kinda eddie is like. their views on their sexuality.

eddie is definitely ashamed of being gay, but not really because it wasn’t socially acceptable.like yeah obv that has to do with it. but most of it for eddie is shown to just be the connection of being queer and being ‘sick’ or ‘disgusting’. it’s shown pretty well in the movies the connection that he makes between being gay and being sick (AIDs happening, the zombie sick guy thing that tried to kiss him, literally like everything idk guys)

but what most people get wrong is that richie honestly isn’t ashamed of being gay. most of it is how it would be accepted or how people would react. with the book and second movie both starting with the death of a gay guy (and generally the start of the book) we see pretty well how Derry treats openly gay people. and i feel like the missing poster is what kinda ‘addresses’ that. he’s scared of going missing (because someone found out he’s queer). also when pennywise is taunting him, i feel like the wording of “i know your dirty little secret” (or whatever he said) is kinda important. idk just the usage of the word secret feels really important, and way more of a main focus that Richie’s actually hiding. ALSO. In the book Richie says his biggest fear is werewolves.and it’s a whole thing where pennywise turns into a werewolf (which is wearing a varsity jacket that says TOIZER on the back) and chases him. and werewolf symbolism….hiding ‘half of’ yourself or hiding who you are, etc.

specifically for Richie, the ‘dirty little secret’ is one of my main supports here. the scene before he was literally getting attacked because Henry thought he was acting gay. guys. and RIGHT AFTER pennywise coming and taunting him. cmon. like penny wise could’ve phrased it any way he wanted, but the use of ‘secret’ tells that there’s a reason it’s like that. Pennywise was more saying it to mock Richie, because he knew, so it’s no longer a secret, which was what Richie was terrified of. also I don’t feel like I really need to explain the missing poster but it fits trust guys…

also I feel like the thing (guys I genuinely cannot remember what the hell it was) that tried to kiss Eddie is not talked about like. At all. Maybe I just don’t see it but GUYS….
