Wildflower Meadow #2 13th April 2014
We used Nature’s Haven ‘Easy Wildflowers’ - a mix containing corn flowers, corn poppies, oxeye daisies and corn marigolds. We used a bag and a half for our plot, which we mixed with sand to ensure we could identify which areas we had covered when setting the seed.
We then very lightly raked the soil to cover the seeds and watered the whole bed on a gentle setting to avoid washing away any of the seeds.
We saved some of the mix to fill in any gaps that may appear when the seeds start to grow. We also have some foxgloves, which we may plant in at a later date to avoid competition in the early stages.
Now we wait :)
Wildflower Meadow #1 13th April 2014
The veg patch in our garden has become hard work over the years, but the soil is beautiful! As mum and dad have gotten older they decided they’d prefer something lower maintenance, so we’ve decided to plant a small wildflower meadow.
Our true wildflower meadows are almost entirely lost in UK so this is a great way to restore some of the flower species we associate with such habitats and provide a haven for bees and butterflies.
I’ll be keeping my blog updated with the progress to show you how easy it is and hopefully encourage you to do the same in your garden :)
The pictures below so the patch as it was at the beginning of the year and how it looks now my mum and I have turned and raked the soil.
Off to the garden centre to pick up some seed.
Yes! Another huge step forward!
"The bill was sent for interim study by the committee, who ordered that the bill be revised and returned to the committee in a year and a half." At least it wasn't a 'no' :(

**Crazy overwhelmed with happiness!**
So it seems like an age ago now, but remember Australia took Japan to court over their ‘scientific research’ reasoning behind their whaling industry? Well after months of debate, the UN International Court of Justice ruled today in favour of Australia!!
Japan will no longer be permitted to whale in the Antarctic after the verdict agreed that the practice was a disguise for commercial whaling and did not contribute to science.
I can’t believe I lived to see this :) Dizzy with relief. Thank you to all of you who read and support my blog and to all the fellow campaigners out there!! ♥

Great article outlining the consequences of for SeaWorld San Diego and its 10 orcas if the proposed bill, banning captivity, is accepted. Fingers crossed!

Who loves tuna??
Most people I know, including myself, have found some environmental comfort in buying dolphin friendly tuna, but, I’m sorry to say, the dolphin friendly symbol has become obsolete. It is now an environmental symbol companies use to hide behind while they continue to fish irresponsibly. The regulation on the allocation of the symbol is long out-dated and in desperate need of review. Overall, it means very little.
When buying your tuna, please consider the method of fishing used and whether the populations are sustainable because the dolphin friendly hype is a huge distraction for these incredibly important issues. Although the dolphin friendly symbol may mean dolphin friendly nets, it does not mean responsible, sustainable fishing.
Many companies now use FAD fishing, which is explained in the video below. Not only is it exploiting unsustainable tuna populations, but carelessly resulting in the death of manta rays, sharks, endangered turtles AND dolphins.
Next time you buy tuna, please look for the symbol that confirms it was line caught and help to maintain our tuna populations (which by the way, don’t even always inhabit the same waters as dolphins, yet you’ll still find that symbol on the tin). We all enjoy the food our planet provides, so lets show it a little respect :)
Killer whales do not belong in captivity and never have. I believe we have, unfortunately, always known this, so now it's time to put things right - starting with this bill. Please sign to show your support!
Change is coming! :)
