No longer care what canon has to say on the diafam because Lilia himself says "Don't be absurd! Dragon eggs can only be hatched by their parents' magic and affection— nothing less than true love!" And Lilia was what hatched him not deadbeat dad (heavy emphasis on dead) raverne (levan??), maleanor herself, or the queen of the fae could get that boy to hatch but Lilia could and in exchange gave up not only much of his magic but much of his life. Twst can tell me as much as they like that Silver is Lilia's only son and I will still doubt them purely for that inclusion.

... My guy, you are not going to like book 7.5 because they double down on this by having Malleus call Lilia a friend 🧍♂️
More specifically, Malleus uses the term 友人 (yūjin), which is a little more archaic and is used in formal settings, such as conducting business deals, introducing an acquaintance to someone else, and/or professional writing.
I have mixed thoughts on the Diafam and the Lilia-is-Malleus’s-father thing, but I can understand where Anon and others are coming from, especially when post-book 7 content continues to drive home Lilia and Silver being father and son. For example, Silver legally becomes “Silver Vanrouge” at the end of book 7. This is reiterated in 7.5, in which Silver accepts a new magical pen with his surname on it. He also proudly uses his new name from book 7 on, wearing it like a badge of honor. Some fans wanted this done for Malleus as well, or at least the verbal confirmation that Malleus views Lilia as a father or father figure, and Lilia views Malleus as another son. They believe that, after everything Lilia has done for Malleus (giving up his magic and life to hatch Malleus, raising/training Malleus, etc.), the relationship warrants familial acknowledgement.
If you're disappointed with the direction Twst has taken, then choosing to ignore canon or rewrite/superimpose your version over it is a path you can take. You get out of fandom what you put into it, so why stress out or get frustrated over canon? Enjoy yourself. Just remember to keep in mind that it's your interpretation at the end of the day, and that if you come across someone who wholeheartedly disagrees with that interpretation or does go off of what canon presents to them, it doesn't warrant antagonism.
P.S. This isn't the point of the ask, but in case anyone's wondering why I said I personally have mixed thoughts on the Diafam/Lilia-is-Malleus’s-father thing, I explain below the cut.
To be clear, I'm NOT denying that the two are close or denying that Lilia is a super important person to Malleus. Both of those things are true! I'm only saying I'm not fully on the Diafam/Lilia-is-Malleus's-father train for a few reasons. (You don’t have to agree with me on these, I just thought I’d share my own POV!):
Often when people talk about Diafam, it's in the context of Lilia (parent/guardian) + Silver and Malleus (sons). So... where's Sebek in this "family"??? Sebek is left out of the discussion or is treated as an afterthought or something tacked on, not as important as the two "true" sons. This has always rubbed me the wrong way, because it doesn’t really feel like a family to me if someone is left out or gets less attention from the fans or the narrative. It’s similar to someone saying they’re a fan of Savanaclaw but then rarely ever bring up Jack, or the story trying to sell us on Yuu being important but then giving them so little to do in the main story.
There’s a layer of formality that prevents Malleus and Lilia from ever truly being “family” (at least in the traditional sense of a close-knit one). Like, Malleus is the king-to-be and Lilia is, at best, an attendant or knight. Lilia is subservient to Malleus, and it would be a breach of professional conduct to befriend one’s charge.
I’m confused by how much involvement Lilia actually had in Malleus’s upbringing. Lilia was apparently banned from the capital city and had to sneak in to see Malleus (or Malleus had to sneak out to see him), but somehow had the time to train Malleus and impart other lessons to him?? And Lilia also had the time to travel the world and also raise Silver + train Silver and Sebek in the woods??? Some bits of lore imply Lilia basically raised Malleus, but then other bits of lore feel like Lilia was very distant from Malleus growing up.
Lilia is close friends with both Raverne and Maleanor. One is missing and the other is dead. He may not have wanted to “replace” them by essentially claiming "ownership" of their child, especially knowing that one of them gave her life for Malleus to survive.
Lilia is someone who has had, and continues to have, issues with accepting the big role he plays in others' lives. Heck, it took him like 18 years to give Silver his surname and tries to leave early from his farewell party so as to not weigh down the group. To me, it makes sense that Lilia is not emotionally ready to go and call Malleus his child. It would elevate him to the position of "father", which would be HIGHLY presumptuous of Lilia (especially given how the senators negatively reacted to the act of Lilia simply hatching Malleus + the reigning queen/Malleus's grandma is still alive, with knowledge that her daughter died for Malleus). It’s like how Jamil would get blasted if he DARED call himself Kalim’s brother or something.
Overall, I feel like Lilia has too much humility in his position in life to call himself Malleus’s father. Malleus, similarly, has an awareness of his social status and how it relates to others. With this in mind, it feels (to me) like Malleus either just sees Lilia as a close mentor, full stop, OR Malleus does want to call their relationship familial but is aware it’s not socially appropriate for him, a prince, to do so. Ah, yes… classic NRC emotional constipation/j (Using the example of Kalim and Jamil again, Kalim has referred to Jamil as being “like a brother” to him, because Kalim lacks social awareness and is much more carefree and loose with his words than Malleus is.)
I'm going to focus on this specific point because I have so many opinions about it.
I LOVE SEBEK AND I LOVE SEBEK AS PART OF DIAFAM.
I love Diafam because of the way their relationship does not follow your typical dynamic in general, and one of those ways is the simple fact that Silver was, ultimately, raised by both Lilia AND the Zigvolts. They are an intermeshed family even if Silver is the only one that Lilia is "actually" the father of.
Straight up I'm not sure Silver would have made it this far without the Zigvolts there to go "uhhh Lilia maybe don't let your toddler son just wander off and play with bears????"
Sebek has his "actual" family, but Silver was ultimately raised alongside him in a very brotherly role and Lilia was ultimately also in a paternal position in his life for that same reason.
Who cares if Malleus isn't officially Lilia's kid? And Sebek isn't officially Silver's brother?
They act as one family unit. They exist as one family unit. And therefore I am of the mind that Sebek (and the Zigvolts in general) should ALWAYS be a part of diafam

in my personal opinion, even if they let you, you still shouldn't say it. If you ARE gonna say (which again you really shouldn't if you aren't black/mixed) then just do it when you are with them and with them ONLY. Not in public, not even if you are in their or yours living room. Black/mixed people (i mean i wouldnt so i assume they wouldnt want to either) usually don't want to hear someone who they dont know and have never known say the n-word
i made this post because i am in a predominantly white school/area in general and they think its okay to say the n-word in public or when referring to other black/mixed people just because they're black/mixed (sometimes not even a black/mixed person) gave them the "pass" for it.
Once again, you really really really shouldn't say it if you are not black/mixed. Even if they say its fine if you do.
If that's fine with your specific friend group, that's one thing. But people outside that group aren't going to know the context or have that connection to you and will think you're just calling them slurs for no reason
I am honestly of the opinion that it should have died with the time it was made I hate slurs and I hate that they get used still regardless of context I get the whole reclaiming the word thing
