ADHD meds: a monthly guide
1. I am not allowed any more than 30 days of meds. I have to remember to contact my doc and request a refill before I run out. I finally figured out a system so I don’t forget –I fill my pill case on Sunday, since I take my meds at work. When I run out, I pull out my phone and send a message through an app. 2. Technically, carrying my meds in a pill case with me instead of in the pill bottle is illegal. I’m a rebel. 3. I wait for my doc to contact me back. Most of the time it’s the same day, but it’s been upwards of two or three. I have to physically go to the office to pick up a piece of paper. I show ID and sign for it every time. My husband cannot pick this up for me. I can’t pick up his either. 4. Drive from doc office to pharmacy and drop it off, because the doctors office cannot call this in. At this point, I probably have 2-3 days worth of meds left. I hope that the pharmacy has it in stock. I can’t do a partial fill. 5. Pharmacy is out and says they’ve met their federal limit and can’t order and receive more for at least a week. Another location has it, but it’s a frustrating drive for me into the heart of the college campus. In the middle of the day. I don’t feel like dodging jaywalking college students. 6. Try a closer pharmacy. They too, won’t have it in until I’m well out of the meds. 7. Try calling the next closest to see if they have it before you drive over. Pharmacy is not allowed to tell you if they have enough stock to fill the prescription over the phone. I have to come in. Cue crying in the parking lot. 8. Why are pharmacy lines so long? Man, they must be chronically understaffed. 9. SUCCESS. THEY HAVE MY MEDS. It’ll be 45 minutes and since this isn’t my usual chain, they don’t have my insurance info. 10. Go run the rest of my errands. Rage shop and buy three new bras at Soma. Come back in an hour. Not ready. They put my insurance in wrong too. Human error, no big deal. 11. GO HOME. MEDS LESS AND FRUSTRATED. 12. Strangely enough, my husband can pick up my prescription by knowing my name and birthdate. It’s the easiest part of the whole situation. 13. Repeat in 30 days. Did I mention I take this medication in order to treat a disorder that effects my executive function skills?
